I was literally just thinking, this song is like the exact moment on record where the 80s style of rapping that had come through into the 90s, passed the torch over to the 90s style. This puts it into words really nicely. Like, I've always wondered how it would blow minds if you took say Kendrick Lamar and just dropped him into 1990 and you're right, it would probably be something like this.
@SLaird224 жыл бұрын
For example for lack of better phrasing the way he rides that break in the beat on the "serial killer who works by the phone book" line is common today but that kind of nuance IMO was ahead of its time in the early 90s. And this isn't a shot at this era, things just naturally evolve over time. If you took Run DMC and put them into 2020 they would adapt and sound a whole lot different.

Tone has a voice that doesn't fit his look but is still so unique. Nas was a spitter from the jump, he sit his bars with authority like he was already blown! Peace to old school, this was fire back in my day.

The hip hop culture is gone, but there still are some good underground artists. I just missed the 80's-90's culture back then with the clothes, club vibes etc.

Nas Verse was ahead of it's time. The other sound like typical 80's rapppers, but Nas sounded like a rapper from the mid-late 90's . He was ahead of his time tho 🔥
