When I was in my 20s for some reason I was prone to heat exhaustion in the summer months. I wasn't even outside, it was from being indoors without air conditioning, I would get a headache get nauseous and throw up, several times I passed out. One time I had to go to the hospital and they couldn't start an IV cause my veins were too flat so they had me drink sips of ice water all night. Other people were fine in the heat but I was extra sensitive, from then on I made sure to have Gatorade handy and at the first sign of a headache I start drinking it along with lots of water. This young man probably pushed himself too hard trying to deliver packages and didn't realize the danger he was in.

Yes. Played golf in 110 degree heat. Wore pants, a hat, wore a mask (played with randos), and walked the course. Drank heavily the night before so I was dehydrated. After playing golf I went to get a haircut and I started to feel a bit dizzy, confused, I wasn’t sweating even though it was hot, felt I was gonna faint. Then went to the store right after and I bought some nice pillows, still use em to this day. Had Popeyes chicken sandwich for dinner. 🤷🏾♂️

I've pushed myself beyond what this guy probably experienced, especially since he's coming off an injury. This is either dehydration or heat stroke. The other options could be prior medical conditions or maybe even drug related (legal or otherwise). Regardless, the job isn't so stressful that you could drop dead from overwork. Also, since he's already worked 4 years, workload most likely isn't the cause.

Worked for UPS for 4 years till 2018 as driver. I lost 50 lbs my first year instantly and Injured my lower back. My step counter was averaging over 30,000 steps perday. I had no breaks and barely had time to eat. No life Monday-Friday and in 2017 when we started Saturday deliveries, I ended up getting one day off a week. Combined with my national guard service. I was only getting 3 days off per month. The money was incredible. The better I did, the more work I was given. I looked like a skeleton. Black circles under my eyes permanently. Getting a day off was nearly impossible. I watch people fist fight at work. Package handlers overdosing on drugs. Some of the most miserable people I’ve ever met, besides my military service. I had to pack my bags like I was camping. Change of socks, underwear, gallon igloo of water, gatorades, sandwiches and Ibuprofen. I had a military bag packed with whatever I needed. My route had one rest room available in my 12 hour shift. Many nights I got home around 9:30/10. I tried not to bring work home with me. But after the first year, 12 hours a day 5 days a week. It’s all you talk about. I felt as though no one understood. But what was I supposed to do? I was making 1200 per week in 2015 with medical and dental and a 401k matching. August 2017 I blew my back out. To this day it still bothers me. I have horror stories of my route. The woods, the stress of beating the clock. It was never a good day. My best days were when I had a light load and was done by 4:30pm…45 minutes away from the hub. I was home by 7pm

My heart truly goes out to this family. Such a young man, this shouldn’t have happened. Many drivers become dehydrated and extremely ill due to this heat. Our mailman was sick just the other day. I had him sit in the AC, gave him water and drinks to take with him once he felt better. A delivery driver asked for water, the company he worked for wouldn’t allow him to use the AC in his truck because of the cost ( I will not name the company, but it’s a very well known home supply store/company that brings in an astronomical revenue). Companies need to take care of their employees!!! If our packages, supplies, mail are late- I don’t care! I care about the human beings forced to rush around in this heat!!! The least we can do is leave a cooler on the porch with water for these hardworking people!!! This 24 year old man had such a bright future ahead of him. My heart is broken. 🙏🏻

I am so sad for the family. Very courageous of the father to share about his son and to bring awareness for the sake of other UPS delivery in such an unimaginable time of grief. May the peace of God that passes all understanding be with you and your family as you grieve sir.

Praying for his family who loved him deeply and for his UPS family as well. As a retired UPSer, UPSer's are special people and good people. It is a tragedy to lose one so young.

My question - what will the company do in wake of this incident and tragedy? Will they do anything to the family who lost their son? Also what will ups do going forward to prevent further incidents like this from happening?

@ChaplainMike777 hello I recently quit UPS unceremoniously because I couldn’t handle the strenuous work conditions. While working last summer I found a unique way to alleviate the heat. I used a reusable ice pack/bag that i had attached to my body by a compression shirt, that I adjusted to different parts of my body that I felt began to overheat (eg. When my chest was freezing I move the bag to my back, torso, side or wherever area I felt was overheating and since it was held by my compression shirt I could always stay cool and have my hands free when I was working/driving). When the ice melted I simply put more ice from my big ice filled cooler (supply lasted all day). I was always cool and felt I beat the heat problem. I never told many drivers because I thought because of the protruding bag under my uniform I would be ridiculed by my co workers. Seeing what happened to this young man I feel ashamed of my cowardice. Please can you can get this idea out to a supervisor/center manager? I can’t live to see another young man die in this escalating heat.
