Well in certain scenarios you DO NEED AN UPS. Some of us have generators in our apartments so we generally don't have Inverter at home. However the switchover time of generator is enough to shut down your pc. So you do need a ups for that 1-2 sec switchover time. Having a big ass inverter and battery is not viable in such scenario

The main benefit of ups is understood during any kind of updates. Think you are updating your bios and the light goes of any kind of interruption can cause Post system boot failure though motherboard now a days come with dual bios. Same for windows update interruption in it can cause corruption of registry files and even more damage to your operating system. I think UPS is mainly required for specific reason if you don't have a powerful inverter

Why does it matter tho? Even if you have a UPS and there's an update going on, you wont be able to finish it anyways. UPS dont let u run PC for hours, just a few minutes. Heavy windows updates require a while and I doubt a UPS would work

I've been running my PC without UPS for 10 years and I've lost 2 motherboards cause the BIOS chip gets damaged when voltage fluctuates, whenever I start gaming the lights in the room get dim, fan slows down cause PC has a 650 watt PSU and takes a lot of power, this is the point where your motherboard starts heating up A LOT and your chips WILL be damaged if you continue usage without the UPS.

It is true that voltage fluctuations can damage your components. I have had this happen in two different locations here in India. Last year, my laptop's motherboard suffered damage. The repair technician told me it was likely a voltage fluctuation. I was using it without a battery or UPS because I have a home inverter. Simple inverters provide backup but they don't smooth out voltage fluctuations. But I do think that good quality MCB+ simple inverter should be able to do reliably do the job

The basic thumb rule for calculating the UPS VA : VA = 1.6 X Watts ( TOTAL LOAD) . For eg : for 360 Watts, VA = 1.6 X 360 = 576 VA approx (600 VA). So, EndlessDesire is quite prompt ! 2. UPS saved me several times during work. And without UPS I lost my work progresses several times, even after autosave was turned on. UPS is a must have thing in the areas with issues of powercut. So, UPS is one of the primary requirements for people like me. Inverter does not help, because switching time is not as fast as a UPS. It is a highly generalised idea that UPS is not necessary. Again INVERTER NEVER HELPS!

Its not just about autosave. If you are working with Autodesk Maya or some other 3d software , and suddenly there is a power cut your files can get corrupted. And it actually happens. You definitely need a backup whether it is inverter or ups of the required wattage.

Surges and spikes are real problems though. However, mobos nowadays some with better power delivery mechanism. Also, UPS does not save you from bad earthing. 1. Ensure you have good earthing in your house. 2. Lay your inverter delivery system properly. 3. Use 80+ rated psu at least. 4. An additional surge protection layer might not be bad idea but keep it replacing often. Calculate ROI accordingly.

This video is definitely not accurate. -Your PC power supply WILL NOT handle serious dips and surges of voltage that is pretty common in a country like India. These varying levels of voltage can seriously damage components of the computer. -The Backup that gives enough time to save and shut down PC is very helpful. -The backup also protects PC from hardware failure and damage caused by sudden power outage. -One UPS also acts as multi plug bar with surge protection and battery backup, essentially an inverter for PC. In earlier days we tend not to buy expensive PC, but nowadays even a low-range PC deserves a UPS, and it becomes a requirement for high end stuff. UPS IS NOT A SCAM.

I am a photo editor. When I bought my first pc I took an ups for the system. It was quite long time before. From 2018 I had a pc where I did all my stuff and store my data in an external hdd. Due to rare power cut off I was not using ups. While copying data sometime the power gets cut off and the copying fails. When power returns I start my pc and connects my ext hdd. It takes quite a long time to detect and sometimes usb not recognized message appears. I thought it is quite common. So I didnt worry and continue my work. But one day suddenly power gets cut while copying and when I started my pc the hdd didnt show up and a clicking sound came from the ext hdd. I diconnect and connect it again but nothings happens. I went to many data recovery shop but they were unable to do anything. The hdd contains all the data from past few years, all my hard works and many important files of customers. After struggling a lot I got info about stellar data recovery center and they told me to parcel my hdd and they will investigate the issue and quote me the price for the recovery. And only to look fot the issue I have to pay them 700 and i also paid. I waited and after a week I got a mail about the quotation. In the mail they told me that it would be almost around 1 lakh rupess (including gst) for the recovering data, and also that the percentage of the data that will be recovered is unknown. As I was not able to spend so much amount and I told them to return my hdd. As a summary if I had a ups of entry level also I could save my hdd from being crashed. Small things matter.😔😔😔

Hard disk can fail due to multiple reason. Even brand new hard disk can fail quickly

HDD & SSD can fail due to power cut. but you didnt have any home ups invertor either. Any backup can prevent this from happening ups is not the only solution.

The power supply of my PC is 750W. that include all the load and the Graphic Card and Processor as well. Also Let's say the LCD is attached to the UPS as well. which is 55W. total is 805W. So I have a 900W UPS which give me 25 minutes backup easily. I did the research and its working fine. even if I am gaming on my PC.

I have lost multiple hard disk due to no UPS.Being a PC user for more than 25 yrs...I know how important is UPS.You can save every component without UPS but if your saving/reading data on HDD and Electricity switches off then God can only save your hard Disk from having Physical Bad sectors.

I don't agree with your views here IG. For majority of PC users a UPS is a necessity. Home inverters are costly and might not be feasible for a lot of PC users. Whole intention of a 600VA UPS is to provide you just enough juice to shutdown your PC safely. There are other parameters to consider: 1. Cost 2. PSU 3. New or Old PC 4. OS 5. UPS with backup and voltage protection (under voltage) 6. Usage Prevention is better than Cure.

Just to clear the 3rd point: agar apke pass ak achha quality ka SMPS hain to sudden power cut main Components kharap nahi hoti hain... Apne agar kabhi bhi ak SMPS ko open ki hay to dekhneko milega "450V ke 330uF" (Mostly used) ki bade bade 2 capacitors.. joo ki bohot charge ko hold karke rakhta hain or sudden power loss main bhi components ko smoothly shutdown karta hain or line filtration & stabilization provide karta hain.. so ghabraye mat.. main bhi unlogo main se hu jo ajke zamane main PC-UPS pe zyada believe nahi karta hu..

Cut off voltage in Inverter is much less... like 150V.. but in UPS, its much sensitive, like 200V.. UPS can be a boon if you suffer from fluctuations.

Wrong at 3:48 Modern invertors are mostly sine wave...When invertor convert dc to ac square wave is generated which is not good at all for electronic components...so the square wave is separated into the harmonic components and lcr filter circuit is used to convert squre wave into sine wave..

completely wrong, the heavy ups prevented my 2.5 lakh cpu form blowing up as it completely cut off the power to cpu during 400 voltage spike ... ups helps in rare cases where your house mcb fails, it saves your expensive cpu;s life...

i bought microtek ups for 1950 and its worth it. because i do important task and have to save task(btw someapp automatically save the task but still). and in my area light only goes for 2-3 mins or for hours(when there is some damage in line). my ups gives around 15-20 mins of backup and my specs are(i5 6500 and rx 470)

i personally think UPS is not a scam. it helps when you want to change the location of your PC setup, not have to tinker with anything. THE FOLLOWING POINT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT- UPS handles power surges and drops very very well. Without UPS, your computer, especially the power supply is left alone with power surges and drops which a lot of times happens continuously and can greatly damage your computer. i find UPS immensely helpful and i stand by it.

Yes I think it normally you shut down after turning all apps off but when your laptop shuts down suddenly your apps gets crashed and windows tries to reload your pages that's why it says repair windows

What is windows update is running? And electricity suddenly goes off. Don't believe in what is say if you don't have a big ups, you should get a small UPS which can be able to handle at least five minutes. So that your windows update happens correctly and your files and software is safe
