He is trying to help you understand a perspective which is related to the subject matter of UPSC. Those who subscribe to their courses without developing a comprehensive understanding of a subject concerned will obviously suffer at the time of examination. Here, Gandhi's return to India and his plunge into politics were remarkable events in the entire history of India's struggle for independence. His decision to help the Britishers in the wake of WW1, opening an Asharam in sabarmati and a one year tour to understand the socio-economic realities and contradictions existing in Indian society were crucial in creating a broader base for a mass nationalist movement. Gandhi having realised the arm and military might of the Brits deliberately adopted "Satyagraha" as an important political tool to create a strong Indian public opinion against British government. But, for a national level movement based on popular support would require an immense participation from the people encompassing all the sections of society. Hence, he decided to stay away from politics upon his immediate arrival in India but rather chose to take a nation wide tour to understand the problems and challenges faced by the Indians and to record their grievances. A non-violent movement had rare chances of inviting ruthless and reckless suppression by the State as it advocated no use of force or perpetration of violence against the aggressors while simultaneously showing resentment against any State's policies and demanding concessions in return. Gandhi must have taken taken into consideration the events from the revolt of 1857 and its failure as a violent armed resistance lacking a strong ideological support and narrow social base wherein sense of cohesiveness was lacking. Being semi feudal in nature and absence of a dynamic leadership, the revolt was crushed within few months by the Brits. Thus, Gandhi realised the inefficiency of a violent movement in the pursuit of achieving the goal of Swaraj. Moreover, succes of such a nation-wide movement wouldn't be possible until all the sections of Indian society develop a sense of national consciousness and begin identifying themselves as a unified nation "India" irregardless of caste, race, ethnicity, language and religion. Would it be possible until Gandhi himself exposed himself to the ground realities of Indian society?? Never. In my opinion, Gandhi's contribution in India's freedom is unmatched and unparalleled and his leadership was top-notch.

I realised Md Tarique sir was much better and reading books is even better . don't fall into this kind of preparation as it reduces your own mentality . this class didnt enchance my preparation but limited it. everyone has to understand their own strengths for upsc . but this is unidirectional.
