The most helpful thing to know is the "downs" system: when you get the ball, you have four tries / "downs" to move it forward 10 yards. If you succeed, you get another four tries to move another 10 yards. So the drama perpetually comes from whether or not a team can get 10 yards in three* tries *why three instead of four? If you fail on fourth down, the other team gets the ball where you failed. Because of that, ~95% of the time when you get to fourth down, instead of trying to get the 10 yards, you kick the ball as far as you can - so that the other team will start with the ball as far away from your goal / "endzone" as possible Another note: here's the most common ways to score -touchdown (6 points) = carry or catch the ball in the oppponent's goal / "endzone" -PAT/point after touchdown (1 or 2 points) = after scoring a touchdown, you get one attempt for some more points. 1 point PAT = kick the ball through the yellow bars (~95% chance of success). 2 points = get the ball into the endzone again (just like a touchdown) from 2 yards away (~50% chance of success). -field goal (3 points) = kicking the ball through the yellow bars without getting a touchdown first; usually attempted on fourth down. This is basically a reward for almost getting a touchdown. Depending on how good your kicker is, you need to get the ball within ~35 yards of the endzone to have a good chance at making a field goal

The only way GT could win this game was by gashing FSU through the running game, and Mike Norvell still couldn't stop the run. Florida State did not belong in the CFP last season. Don't forget that Boston College should have beaten them. This team does not have any heart, discipline, or football IQ, which is why much smarter but less talented teams completely outfox them and beat them on national TV.
