To be fair, every so often an instigator of crashes falls victim to ones where they had nothing to do with them. Take one of the many occasions Dale Earnhardt failed to win the Daytona 500, specifically 1992. An accident ahead of him left him with nowhere to go, other than the infield grass, despite his reputation for wrecking other drivers, he was an innocent victim
@RailsofForney
@RailsofForney Жыл бұрын
I don’t care for Logano, he’s just a dirty driver. It really bothers fans and other drivers alike. Dale Jr. is different since “he owns it in a cool way” but Logano still gives that vibe of one who doesn’t care; uses cheap tactics.

Also, ironically, where Clint flipped was right in front of where me and my family were seated, 2 rows up from the track. It was absolute pandemonium. Loved every second of that finish. I don’t know if someone already commented this, but the points penalty for the MWR cars after spingate didn’t affect Clint’s final points standing. In fact, it essentially did nothing to him. The penalty was pre-reset for the chase so all it did was bump Truex out in favor of Newman. Bowyer would’ve been 7th regardless. Good video tho as always!

I met Clint in early 2006 at a autograph signing at our local short track. He was the only recognizable driver there, but I was aware of who he was coming up through the Busch Series. I was shy kid, and he noticed when I sheepishly brought up my diecast to the signing table. I don't remember exactly what he said, but it was some kind of pick-me-up message that made me smile. Sorta like that Mean Joe Green Coca Cola commercial. I was definitely a fan after that. I was also there on the frontstretch for the 500 in 2007, and saw him sliding across the line on his roof. Clint Bowyer: A great NASCAR Driver that somehow ends up at the wrong place, at the wrong time. The 3-Wide Wreck at Martinsville was proof of that. He got bumped during the restart & he chose to go on the inside to avoid rear-ending Jeff Gordon, but *3 Wide, into Turn 1, at Martinsville,* we had a hunch that it wouldn't end well at that point. By the end of the day, Clint bared most of the brunt of the outrage, but Jeff forgave him.

Clint Bowyer was and still is my favorite driver of all time. I feel like he got such bad luck, as soon as he started to get decent equipment or luck, something bad would happen. If it wasn't for spingate, I think he could have been even better.

I'll tell you why I have never watched a race. I can't follow how it works. A series inside the series with playoff,, adding "race to the cup" with the same drivers racing in 2 class. This is like Chinese to me and I speak fluent Chinese. When people east coast say that Midwest people are dumb,, I think they are mistaking as you need a PHD to follow what is going on with Nascar. Ha ha ha

@@iix23It’s so stupid, the only way to follow it is when they have to show the playoff cut line on TV because it’s too convoluted to figure out with quick math.

Clint Bowyer was the defining hero of my high school years, as somebody who didn't regularly watch the sport until 2005, I came in with a pretty clean slate and found myself pulling for the second place guy - always the underdog. I pulled for him throughout his rookie year, and his performance as a rookie was better than you'd think - constant top 10 runs marred by bad luck. But the promise of watching your favorite driver go out and potentially win races was an escape I really needed from the family turmoil in my teens and fear of my own imminent realization that I was gay. Excellent retrospective. Editing was top notch. You made me, the founder of 10 To Go, very proud.

That "win" for Biffle must certainly be in the top 5 of the absolute worst decisions made by NASCAR. It's amazing that there wasn't at least a minor riot that evening.

When I saw the 07 Jack Daniels car, at first I thought "why do they have an upside down number 2 next to a zero?" At first I thought it was a hilariously different way to show 02, but in fact it was related to the Old Number 7 brand as S1ap said. I just thought I would provide a quick laugh at my expense, lol

Great video! I was a kid who grew up in Kansas, and became a fan of NASCAR in 2005. Naturally I became a huge fan of Bowyer. I remember all these great moments over several years. I have awesome memories from Lakeside speedway, and dirt racing in KS. Clint’s career was a product of the absolute fervor that was grassroots racing in the Kansas City area during the early 2000s. Lakeside Speedway & I-70 we’re developing lots of great talent back then. And then they built the Kansas Speedway around that time. Clint was one of many that got starts in ARCA, but he made the most of it. Sponsors were also putting money into racing in the local area back then. It was a great time, and I’m glad I got to see “glory days” of local racing in KC. Unfortunately the days of being a local talent in the midwest, getting your shot, and going to the big leagues are long gone.

oh boy I was at that 2012 Phoenix race (my first NASCAR race I've ever been to) man when their crews rioted, the whole crowd went nuts, and the fans were both swearing at Bowyer and Gordon. Calling Gordon a P***Y and also a chicken and calling Bowyer a POS Toyota driver. Man, that race was so dramatic, I'm so glad I attended it.

This is an amazing channel. This is the best racing history I have come across and your perspectives have helped rekindle my love of racing. When I was a kid, it was the local short track in western Oregon on Saturday nights, and then waking up and watching the Winston cup race on this new thing called cable tv with Dad I doubt I’ll ever find interest in the shit show that has become NASCAR, but I think I’ve rediscovered my love of local short track racing. Thanks S1ap. This old guy appreciates it 👍🏻

The 07 Daytona 500 was the first NASCAR race I ever truly watched with my dad, and MY GOD, what an introduction it was. He told me all about Mark Martin (he's a huge fan), and so I was rooting for him too. Without a doubt, one of the best things I ever watched on TV, right up there with the series finale of Avatar the Last Airbender and the CTV News background fistfight.

its worth pointing out and im surprised slapshoes didnt mention the context for the martinsville race. bowyer got punted into both gordon and johnson, but that would have been hendrick win 200. they were at 199. geoff bodine got hendrick off the ground, but gordon made hms into what it is today so to be at the center of that, at his favorite track, and missing out on the milestone, its a bit more understandable how jg felt in that moment. he also didnt get win 200. johnson did

So, eight minutes in and sounds like he got lucky, pulling 7th in the No. 7 on 7/7/2007, and cheated by shoving in two sevens on the already cool jackpot number. Edit: Finishing this, and seems like he’s one of those guys who’s the one to throw a party in movies, a veritable Mr. Excitement if you will like good ol’ Jimmy Spencer, the one you look at when something exciting is going on, even if he isn’t the centre of all that excitement.

Clint Bowyer may not have the Championship trophies for the Hall of Fame, but he *definitely* has a HOF-worthy highlight reel. And you need characters like that in any sport. Easily a top-tier driver, with multiple race wins under his belt, could've easily had a Cup championship to his name had just a few things swung in his favour at the right time, but was also a big character with tonnes of charisma and a plethora of memorable moments in his career retrospectives - for better and for worse. And every sport, every racing series, needs characters exactly like Clint. Hard chargers, fan favourites, guys who lit up the track both on and off it. Kinda like a Daniel Ricciardo in Formula One, I guess.

18:58 "...and due to reasons completely out of your control..." On one hand, true. He had no say in the team shutting down or any of that stuff. On the other, he did willingly sign the contract that forced him into the position of going wherever his car/sponsors went. I wonder how common, or uncommon, it is for drivers to sign contracts that allow for those types of outcomes to happen. No matter what, it's understandable for him to be disappointed and completely pissed off about what ended up happening during that "wasted" year.

I was six, my favorite drivers were Scott Riggs and Mark Martin. At some point Riggs was really close to the front because I think he got 2 tires on a stop, but seeing Mark near the front at the end got me so hyped, I cried after they said Harvick won. I never liked Harvick because I didn't like the Red and Yellow color scheme.
