Uranus in Astrology: Meaning Explained

Discussing the meaning of the planet Uranus in astrology, and what it signifies in a birth chart, with astrologers Rick Levine and Chris Brennan.
In general, Uranus is said to signify sudden and unexpected events, revolutions, innovation, eccentricity, erraticness, disruption, unpredictability, sudden breakthroughs, quirkiness, rebelliousness, electricity, advancement through technology, rapid growth, and uncommon pursuits.
Uranus was first discovered on March 13, 1781, and within a century or so astrologers had worked out most of its meanings and incorporated it into astrology.
Since Uranus is the first outer planet in our series, we spend a bit of time in the beginning of the episode talking about how astrologers figured out the meaning of newly discovered planets.
One access point was understanding some of the events that happened around the same time as the discovery, such as the American Revolution, the French Revolution, the Industrial Revolution, and the culmination of the Enlightenment period.

trickster gods (prometheus) are responsible for bringing unorthodox ideas or concepts into the orthodox, example gratia lightning strikes fire is on earth ( pormetheus steals fire & zeus notices ). Another example includes Loki ( brush fire) whose father is farbuti ( cruel striker ) God of war 4 for you nerds, rick from rick & morty is an Aquarius ( I have Uranus in Capricorn in the 7th Saturn in Aquarius in the 8th ) edit #2: my 1st comment got deleted. I took it but didn't like it at all. In my opinion it was political based. So many interesting people in the world and the charts he picked to practice on were the charts of Greta Thunberg, Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, Lady Gaga, Stephen Colbert, and many other neoliberal leftists who I didn't care about. When uranus was on top of my jupiter (which rules the 8th) in late 2017, I got free funding to one of the most expensive universities on the continent. It happened out of nowhere, basically fell out of the sky, it was a random semantic stroke of luck that happened to benefit me at that exact time.

I have natal Uranus in my 2nd house. Huge ups and downs in finances. Lottery win, debt, job losses, etc. My finances have never been stable. I've been homeless and I've lived in luxury. I also like to earn money in unusual ways. Transiting Uranus is currently transiting my 7th house. I went through a horrible breakup as soon as it crossed my DC. Lots of changes in relationships.

Although Uranus must be unpredictable, it might be possible to influence the "solution space" in which its outcomes can be integrated. Meditation, exercise and anything else that measurably increases the resilience of our nervous / hormonal systems could be Uranian (body electric) practices that help us reach for gracefully riding the wave. So interesting, just listened. On 9/26/96 I got in a car accident where I broke my neck and required emergency surgery. It forced me to go on disability for 4 months yet enabled me to start my own business doing creative work that I loved instead of these horrible office jobs I had for years. Reawakened my joy of life, nature, and how much I loved the special people in my life. It was the night of a total lunar eclipse, Uranus was 00 degrees Aquarius, squaring my Sun, Mercury, and Neptune in Scorpio, and conjunct my rising sign in Aquarius. Not sure if significant but Pluto was in 00 Sagittarius as well, squaring my natal Pluto in Virgo. Mars in Leo was also conjunct my Uranus in Leo and squaring my nodes.

Phenomenal episode! I have Uranus in the 9th at 4 Libra conjunct Sun/5 Libra and Mercury/6 Libra. Sun rules the 7th and I need quite a bit of independence and freedom in relationships. Some relationships are unconventional and can start and end suddenly. Uranus just stationed on my natal moon at 14 Taurus, ruling my 6th House. My daily habits and eating have been very erratic past few months. Also I work in an office and know I can *never* go back to “working in an office” after working remotely since March of 2020.

I have had experiences like the story about the guy whose house burned down. In one instance, I had become aware of Uranus opposite Mercury in retrograde (if memory serves me). I had an important job interview scheduled and told my mom that I had a bad feeling about going. I didn't mention astrology because, well, she is normal. She assumed I was flaking out or self-sabotaging so I went. I drove 45 min. there and got the job offer. On my way home, my car broke down and I called her to get a ride. She was quite surprised at how delighted I was to have my car break down after just getting a good job. It pushed me deeper into these studies and I don't regret it one bit. Also gave me a certain level of acceptance that there are things beyond my control.

Great talk. So glad you guys are discussing the seemingly almost arbitrariness of the assignment of the outer planets to signs. 🤔 Interesting! My father has Uranus conjunct his sun and I have, according to Vedic astrology, Uranus at the same degree of the Asc in D9 or Navamsa chart. The 9th house in Vedic astrology is a Karaka for parents. While I am only a student and am most times more confused than not, this comment made me laugh at the riddle of it all😆

I loved this episode so much. I had to split it up over the course of a few days, but I feel so much more in tune with uranian energy. I love the concept of Neptune being magnetic energy and Uranus being electric energy. I’m new to astrology and trying to self teach myself. I love this discussion! So many conversations about astrology and it's evolution is exactly what I am interested in continuing! Also, I am discovering more aspects of my chart that play such a significant role but I never really focused there because I have such a strong stellium in Aries in the 8th house. I am born in April 1969. I have Pluto and Jupiter (1st house), and Uranus(1 degree 2nd house). All 3 are conjunct and didn't really connect my strong feeling about the energy of the 60s until now! Seems like a no brainer but I am recently being called to look deeply at this aspect in my chart. Thanks very much for this valuable discussion!💛🕊

Uranus opposite my natal Uranus in 2019, ugh, my youngest son fell down at school then became sick. The transition about crushed me, yet now I can say it taught me so much and opened my heart beyond what I could have ever imagined possible and I'm thankful to say my son is doing well💞

Personally, when Uranus came into my consciousness, my world already shaken, was suddenly provided with a sense of possibility, until then, not understood... Exciting in it’s scope and the premise for solutions gave rise to hope. Faith alone was not enough... I have natal Uranus conjunct moon, sun, venus and 11 and 13 degree orb with Mars and Mercury all in Scorpio, sextile Saturn and Pluto and square Jupiter, opposing Chiron. Thank you both so much. Uranus is conjunct my Ascendant, and I'm in a pickle in my life rn. I was looking for an answer, but I didn't listen to this podcast to find one; I was just drawn to it. Then I looked at my horoscope and discovered that Uranus is on my Ascendant! So I'm like, okay, that's it - that's what's wrong with me or rather, on the real level - this is actually what is right with me from the viewpoint of the cosmos, but it's what is wrong with me according to those around me. So I investigated my chart a bit further and discovered what aspects Uranus is forming and listed them in my journal under the heading of THE ABERRANT REALMS OF MY LIFE because these are the houses where Uranus "becomes visible" as Rick was explaining. Truly helpful! Tyvm Chris and Rick! Thanks to you guys, I'm innovating and having much smoother sailing now! There's more to it, but I feel much better about everything after listening to this podcast!

Another brilliant podcast! The beginning was hilarious- especially when Rick asks “what time is it?” And Chris knew exactly what he meant and then told him what time the power probably went out- lol. Astrology nerds thinking only of the chart 😍. Great chemistry and once again, I learned so much. I watched it twice so I could take notes. My Uranus is conjunct Pluto in the 2nd house (both 15 degrees Virgo). It hasn’t been boring thats for sure 😂. Fun times!

Thank you for both Chris and Merlin for an excellent segment! I love Uranus, love Uranians, Love being an Uranian! I've been preparing for transiting saturn (4th) opposing uranus (10th) for a couple of years now. it will be exact early next year. Where as 30 yrs ago I had no clue and my whole world blew up and changed dramatically. it's nice seeing and feeling the energies working. Also have Uranus squaring uranus in a couple of yrs as well. Never too quite a moment in my world. Love your talks! Great stuff!!!! PS. I enjoy Grant Lewi's books as well! We had the best music in the 60s-70s.

I have Uranus right on my ascendant, ( 29° LEO) and it has not been easy at all. I'm 60 years old, and still I am sometimes unaware of the effect I have on others. I often evoke change in the heart and soul of the people I encounter. On the other hand, cooperation with partners has proven to be extremely difficult, not because I don't want to, but because for some reason it is just not possible. It's like I am forced to do things myself, my own way. But it has been a constant source of grief and even anxiety that it's so difficult for me to truly find deep connection. With aging I've come to see that acceptance is the way to go, accepting that for some people I seem weird and eccentric.....PS I have a Uranus Jupiter opposition (and Jupiter is conjunct chiron natal). All I have ever done in the world is about restoring and accepting the child within; all the art I produce is to empower young children.

This is so good! Haven't listened to/watched astrology podcasts in a while, and today I was searching for something to listen while vacuuming (which I really dislike). So now I'm at 2h 26min in, I vacuumed, did my physiotherapy exercises, cooked a meal, changed a lightbulb and will soon do some laundry. All these while feeling the constant awe from listening to this discussion and learning so much. It's a miracle, as I usually don't really have energy nor motivation to do these stuff, not to mention so much one after the other. I subscribed, let's see if other episodes motivate me as much as this to do the housework. Nevertheless, this channel is gold, thank you!
