Ironically audio gear is something you need to be careful about spending money on. It's a snake oil market with amps and dacs and cables But if you're saying these aren't cheap.. These are like bottom barrel sound wise when you consider actual hifi headphones

@@allthenamesaretaken2 Hifi headphones like in the $2,000 range are definitely not marketed to the average consumer. Plus those kinds of headphones are typically open back and you're not going to be wearing one on the street meaning they have zero noise canceling. They're at home listening primarily. So "bottom of the barrel" is hyper relative especially when you need a DAC to truly bring the sound out. In terms of the average consumer this is quality sound.

Same here man, the M2’s are really good. Although I already upgraded to the M4: - The materials on the M2 feel a bit more “premium” as well as the case. - The headband on the M2’s already broke(after 2 years) but was able to find replacement part. They are already 3 years old. And the battery still performs good. - The M4 are more comfortable, noise cancelling is improved as well as sound quality. - new features as “talk to pause” and take headphones off and pause are really cool. - M4 sound a bit better when using them on wired mode - you can use EQ settings and DSEE extreme engine on the M4 at the same time but it drains the battery -still need to try the battery performance when using LDAC codec. - Quick charge 10 min give 5 hours of playback Overall the M4 are a really great pair of headphones: better noise cancelling, sound quality, useful new features. But I kinda feel I should’ve waited for the M5 XD Waiting for the M5s sounds good, we might see a new design and updated features as well.

The speak to chat feature is actually a good idea but just badly implemented by Sony. A smart way to implement this feature would be merge quick attention with the speak to chat and that way the user activates environment/ambient sound by covering the left ear cup with your palm (as these headphones do already) and immediately the speak to chat function should take over and keep the music volume down/off until the user stops speaking and then resume music playback (in 5 or 10 seconds).

I have mine and the sound is REALLY amazing. If I wear them extensively, they do actually hurt my ears from the pressure and they get warm. I don't know if any headphones work differently. Love the multi-device option though.

Agree these hurt my ears. Multi device works great when it wants to. Pretty random performance and glitchy for me. Bass and overall sound is great though. Wish they were as comfortable as the NC700s

Great review! 👍🏼 Regarding the "speak to chat" you can enable/disable the function by holding two fingers on the right earcup. If you have the feature activated and you are singing and hereby activate the function you do not need to start your music from det app. You can just double tap on the right earcup with one finger, like when you are accepting a call or playing/pausing music. 👌🏼

I'm with you if that happens. Unfortunately, if you search "Sony WH1000XM3" at Slickdeals, it looks like only refurbished models were offered at a decent discount during the first Black Friday (2018) after they came out. It wasn't until early to mid 2019 when deals on a new pair started to get the thumbs up from users there. Be ready to go if a deal pops up though, they will sell out in a flash.

As for the speak to chat function, it is a easy way to turn it off without access 'headphone' app on your phone, by using two fingers press the touch pannel, it will turn off the function, same as activing it. So, it is CRAZY convenient function! Because you can turn it on by two fingers when you feel it need to, and turn it off when you feel you want to sing along with your music!

It’s a good upgrade and it’s worth it bro. If you have been using the mark 3 then not really a necessary upgrade but if you’ve been using the mark 2 then yes it’s worth it. Was using the mark 2 and when I upgraded to mark 4, holy the difference is just amazing 😍

Great review. It has everything someone would need to make a decision on buying these. I bought mine last week and loving every second of using it. As you mentioned Speak to chat option is a bit annoying. Just to add, double tapping the right side does start the audio so we don't have to reach out to the phone to start it. But still it is annoying.

I have a setting for live grateful dead concert recordings to the point I feel like I am onstage playin' in the band.

Everyone hates on the Adaptive sound so much but honestly, having taken the time to properly set up what I like my settings to be at work, home, on my commute, etc. it's really kind of amazing. I never have to change the settings, it just does it for me. The only feature that I really wish these had (and no headphones that I'm aware of have support for this) is integrated app settings so that I didn't have to manually switch my EQ when going between different types of media.

Hello mate, great video, very in-depth and explained very well in easy terms, can I ask a question- I intend to buy these headphones to use with my record player, would the work with a Bluetooth record player or is it only devices like phones etc? Also how would I go about connecting them, the record player has a 3.5mm jack at the back and Bluetooth, not sure how I’d do it, and second question - the settings you can do on the app to set modes and bass etc, if I done the settings on the app via Bluetooth on my phone are the setting then locked on the headphones so I still be the same (if I manage to connect to my turntable) or would they revert to standard and the settings only work on a digital device like a phone? Hope my questions make sense, I’d be mighty chuffed for any info, thanks a lot pal 👍🏻

I had the mark 3s and man were they F A N T A S T I C. Being someone who moved to it from a wired bose headphone ( qc 25's) , the convenience , noice cancellation , and the battery life REALLY IMPRESSED ME. And man sony knows their audio . It was tuned perfectly and they were so premium in terms of in hand feel. I saved some cash for them and they are WORTH EVERY PENNY I spent on them. If you can afford or manage to spend some cash they are mind-blowing. I bet the XM4's would be amazing even before testing them because of how good the XM3'S WERE. GREAT VID BTW JUD 👍👍
