You see a lot of these Urban Arrow in The Netherlands. What I understood also in other countrys and the USA. I think it is great that they just keep the base the same for many of years. I have seen them with 5 kids. Battery outside, hm, it is that old base design. I would love it hidden inside. Price is good in the USA! These bikes know a lot of extra's, so the price can go a little upwards. But this cargo bike is a big succes and that is not for nothing. Good vlog Chris!

A 280 pound man, an 80 pound child, and a 42 pound dog can all be carried inside the basket although it's a somewhat a squeeze for the legs. You do need a lot of experience balancing heavy loads, but if you have ridden a large motorcycle then it's not more difficult. Starting from a hill does require precise pedal and gear position. My experience is that it can be quite difficult if you're even a little bit off, but easy and drama free otherwise.

As always, Chris, a great video. You're developing a style of presentation which makes it a pleasure for the viewer to watch and learn. This is a very rare skill, and you're perfecting it. The bike is very well thought out, beautifully built, and, in my opinion, would be equal to the R&M Cargo if it had suspension and 625 batteries. But, as the Netherlands has flat, well maintained roads, their absence is understandable.
@leojonkers31813 жыл бұрын
They sell this bicycle in lots of countrys.
@josephf50363 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with you. For me the big reason of not going for this bike is the lack of front suspension (STRANGE they have that option only on the commercial version, not the family one). Not forgetting the bigger batteries and the lack of cable steering.
@MrKeyboardCommando3 жыл бұрын
@@leojonkers3181 That's very true, Leo. However, when the bike was originally designed, it may not have had such an international market. Or, Urban Arrow may consider suspension not that important. It is, after all, a relatively new addition to the bicycle.

I agree with many comments that your video quality and presentation are very well done. I love the versatility of this concept and the Urban Arrow seems very well conceived and executed. However, are there any statistics on the safety of this bike in urban environments? Children are the most precious cargo I can think of and if one is hit by a car no matter the safety belts it will be a disaster. I ride my e bike with high intensity flashing lights front and rear and I ride streets with my Lumos helmet with flashing lights front and rear and built in turn signals. Still, I have had close calls with drivers passing me on my left or trying to beat me to the intersection and turning right directly in front of me. What has your experience been riding this in NYC or Long Beach? The Scandinavian countries are very much "bike cultures" where bikes often have the right of way. I would love to hear of your experiences or owners who ride these in more congested environments where there are no protected bike lanes. Again, thanks for your commitment to quality presentations.
@langhamp89123 жыл бұрын
Just look at what kind of vehicles most drivers use. If it's mostly trucks and SUVs where you want to ride your bicycle, then you'll be much more likely to be struck and killed by drivers.

I do generally use an E bike for my commute however I generally make an effort to live in walking distance to my business. When I lived in Brooklyn I was a block and a half from the store. Now in Long Beach I live across the street. The video studio and warehouse is about 2 miles away in Long Beach and for that i usually use an Ebike. That being said I do at times use the shop van four deliveries and other scenarios where an Ebike is not practical.

The problem with these e-bikes is that nothing, absolutely NOTHING about them should cost as much as a middle tier motorcycle. This thing isn't worth $6000. It's a bicycle with ~$1000 in motor and battery added. They're only getting away with it because they're relatively new, but it's incredible what they're charging. Edit to add: but this is a very good review. And I still might get one anyway, despite the overpricing. I guess that's why they charge that much.

The $6k and $7k price point is too high for how much bike you are actually getting. This thing should cost $4k and $5k respectively. At $6 and $7k I expect a suspension system to be included. The biggest difference with these bikes is that the frame design and the the helmet foam they provide. Now, as I understand, the have aluminum frames not carbon so they aren’t hand built. Honestly, I would rather pick up a fancy cargo carrier with a suspension and mount it to the back of a fancy eBike for this kind of money. Also, the kids should have a bar to hold onto. In an accident, their hands shouldn’t be holding onto the outside of the cage where their fingers or hands can be injured.
@jonathanlittle37512 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately that seems to be the going rate. A similarly spec'd R&M Load 60/75 (full suspension) with an enviolo hub and gates drive plus cargo compartment and child seat runs $11-12k. An e-Bullitt with gates drive and 85nm motor is $8200.
@ArneVanhove2 жыл бұрын
I've driven both with front suspension and without and I've chosen the UA above others due to the ride quality. Ride position is maybe not perfect, but the responsive steering made me choose UA. I've tested Carqon, Lovens, R&M, Cube and gazelle. I can imagine if you're driving rough terrain it can help and maybe it will reduce the bouncing of the front (did not experience that) . But when I'm driving off-road I will refuse tiré pressure anyway.
@ClayShentrup2 жыл бұрын
We bought one yesterday. Our one big complain was the strange severe angle of the handle bars. Instead of being horizontal, they curve back unnaturally. So we had them lower the handlebars to a kind of absurd weird point. But it made them usable for us. Just the weirdest design choice.
@ArneVanhove2 жыл бұрын
It's not weird, it takes off pressure when riding for long periods. It's more a preference. Take a look at city bikes vs more sporty or mountain bikes. You have handlebars that slope way way more back then this one. I tested almost any cargo bike, with cable steering, straight handlebars, ... From UA to Lovens, R&m, cube, ... And I can honestly say that this bike is one of the best handling on the market. While not the most sporty, it is very responsive and comfortable.

@stephenstetler3324 Жыл бұрын
@@pdannysan13 I don’t think you’re going to find the difference in features, it comes down to quality of said features. Like comparing two houses - they both have 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, but one is in a highly desirable neighborhood and is very luxurious, where the other is perfectly adequate in other way just not as high end. The Urban Arrow comes with the same Bosch motor options, so everything tied to the Bosch like battery capacity, speed, torque, smart system, etc. will always be the same. In my experience though, I prefer R&M because it is so much more comfortable in every single aspect.
