This breaks my heart. We own 60 acres that none of the kids want. I cannot keep up with it by myself. How can elderly people be expected to do this with hand tools? Yet everyone shows up wanting free eggs, meat and honey.

Mrs. Penobscot: I'm in Greer, SC. I would like to suggest you call the local high school and ask if they have an FFA program. It very well could be a few of those students would be willing to help you...and you could allow them some area to grow their own produce and sell it at no cost except to maintain your property. It would be a great learning opportunity for them, and you might find a couple you appreciate enough to give them some of your land for their own as you get to know them. Certainly, I'd rather give it to someone who will use and enjoy it, rather than leave it to children who will only sell/develop it when you're gone. Goodness knows...we're growing tremendously in SC. blessings on you!
