Urban Meyer defeated the Michigan Wolverines seven times in a row in his time as head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Ryan Day's Buckeyes' squad hasn't had quite as much success against the Big Ten East Champion Wolverines, as they fall for a third straight year.
Which conference title game will be the most competitive this year? And how much will the SEC and Pac12 Championships determine the final CFP poll?

I am a long time Michigan season ticket holder, two time graduate and Wolverine fan. I was at the game last weekend and it was alot of fun. OSU played great and has many excellent players. When we exited the stadium, we spoke with several OSU fans and shook hands with them. All agreed it was a really excellent game! I have been to OSU to watch the game and fans were very nice to us. Lastly, I have many friends and mentors in my career that went to OSU. It's only a great rivalry when there are two great teams.

Urban always had a physical power run game that set up the pass game. That's why he was so dominant over Michigan. Michigan has that now while Day has a prolific passing attack that sets up the run. Different philosophy with different results
@MrMcGiblets1
@MrMcGiblets1 7 ай бұрын
No, he was dominant over Michigan because Dave Brandon hired Rich Rod and then Brady Hoke and they put Michigan in the worst period of performance the team ever saw. It took Harbaugh a few years to build us back up. Urban Meyer simply took advantage of that time.

@@MrMcGiblets1absolutely. People fail to realize that Harbaugh took over Michigan after their worst decade in their history. Also, Harbaugh was 2 plays away from 11 wins his first season and 2nd season was 5 points to being undefeated. Should have beat OSU with some questionable calls too.

Urban had a big advantage over Harbaugh at Ohio State. The entire conference was suspect when Urban was hired and OSU went undefeated while he kept saying that they were not a great team. Urban inherited a team on 2nd or 3rd base from Tressel. nonetheless Urban made OSU a powerhouse and Harbaugh joined Michigan when it was in complete disarray so Urban had a strong headstart over him.

From an outside perspective, Harbaugh was the better coach in 2016. UM fumbled at the 1 yard line and made some key mistakes, but the game plan was phenomenal to stop OSU. That changed the trajectory for recruiting and really set up OSU for success. Harbaugh looked in the mirror and said we have to win this game in the trenches. With all of that being said, Meyer is the best coach I've witnessed at the college level in my life.

As a big buckeye fan, I have to hard disagree with Meyer being the best college coach, as Saban took an Alabama program out of a decade of mediocrity straight into a dynasty of over a decade. This also isn't including the LSU and Michigan state programs that he had turned around previously. Maybe Urban would have had his own Dynasty with more success had he not had to deal with recurring health issues, but that's a big if. There's also the fact that Ohio State in the mid-late 2010's tanked losses to middle-of-the-road Big Ten teams in a period where Saban was constantly dueling Dabo for titles.

Hello as a coach that is your responsibility win-loose- or draw. When you stay behind shame on you!!! He lost respect from Jacksonville Jaguars. Haha actually lost his job! And you would take him back? I am shocked they have him announcing for Big 10! Apparently reputation doesn’t matter! Only if your from Michigan than they can tear you down! But Michigan has been a GREAT EXAMPLE especially Coach Harbaugh conducted himself and this team through these brick walls this year!

@@LJHLU Day is not leader enough to be a good head coach. If we can transition to a better leader, we’ll have a better team. If Day and the powers that be won’t make that tough choice, could Day decide to step down from most all of his other duties, and simply be head coach? If one of these things doesn’t happen, I expect the program will continue to decline in a vicious cycle kind of way-average coaching leading to worse recruiting, etc.

Idgaf about the reason he ultimately left OSU nor do I care about the Jacksonville shenanigans. Neither of those situations can blemish the fact that he’s a GREAT leader of young men. With that said, plus mentioning the disclaimer that I’m 41, I personally think he’s the best college football coach in my lifetime. Saban is great but we’ll never truly know what advantages Bama had to get to that level. I’m not saying for a fact that they were dirty, I’m saying they played in the SEC and imho that’ll always slap an asterisk next to a crazy resume like Saban’s. Kirby Smart is prolly a great coach too, but my god are his rosters just insane looking every year. I feel like a lot of coaches could have success there. There’s a lot more you could compare Urban with including 90s OGs like Tom Osborne, Bob Stoops, B. Bowden etc but from my own PERSONAL perspective, in NCAAF Urban has the best football mind and is great at effectively passing it on to his players (something that is exceptionally hard to do in the NFL with grown ass millionaires). I would be very stressed out if he ever went back to Ohio to coach again.

He’s better than Day but no way he’s beats Harbaugh every year with close to equal teams and without the paying players and ignoring academics under the Smith regime. I’d love to see Meyer vs Harbaugh now with NIL.

I’d love to see Urban back at Ohio State, but why in God’s name would Urban want to coach college football again with the cesspool it’s turned into. Never mind what Ohio State did to him. It’s an utterly impossible disaster. That said, ALL of McCord’s interceptions are, and have been McCord’s fault. His accuracy is sh!t, his reads are sh!t, he’s confused, scared, has HORRIBLE pocket awareness. You can feel McCord’s anxiety through the TV screen. He’s the only QB I’ve watched in my lifetime as a 2nd gen OSU alumni, where each time he dropped back I either expected an interception, or at BEST an incompletion. And, the worst part is that we’ve already seen his best. McCord’s play against UM was typical, average McCord. God help us if McCord comes back next year…
@Primus54
@Primus54 8 ай бұрын
If you watch the breakdown of McCord’s first interception, had he handed off the ball to Trey it would have gone for several yards because all the OSU blocking on the right side was in perfect position. McCord was going to throw to Marvin no matter what on that play and it was certainly obvious to the defender.

@@Primus54 Yup... I've never seen an Ohio State QB so confused, and anxiety-ridden. And, Day knew it, from Day 1. Why he didn't start Brown, and let Brown develop is one of the may horrible coaching decisions he's made the past 2yrs. He flat out doesn't understand that while he would've caught a TON of sh!t for losing early, he would've been MORE than forgiven for it had it led to a UM win. Now, this program is so broken you can't help but wonder how bad this will get, and for how long. And, to think that Ryan Day was given a gift-wrapped, dynasty, and STILL can't get it done.

Not after the tv rating came in. michigan & Ohio State once again had the highest rating again for the year. The Michigan & Ohio State game had a larger audience than the last game of the NBA & World Series finals. the Networks will influence the ncaa about the penalties. Look at Kansas as an example on the lack of power they(NCAA) have now.

Yeah that's how it's going to play out Michigan wins three in a row over the third base coach. He rebuilt Michigan he rebuilt San Diego State he he rebuilt Stanford he rebuilt the 49ers. And when he chooses to leave Michigan he will rebuild in NFL team and take them to the Super Bowl one of the great coaches of all time college or Pro.

Ryan day lines his offense up and plays very vanilla football. NO wrinkles, nothing creative. No reverses, no double reverses, no reverse flee flicker, no halfback passes, no jump passes, no toss to a down linemen in a goal line situation......ryan day NEVER got carnell tate ONE touch in the michigan game! MY GOD he should have had some designed plays for tate, even putting him in to run back kicks and punts. IF YOU DONT RUN YOUR QB 5-6 times a game, forget it. Even the qb only gets 3-4-5 yards a pop, its something that keeps the defense humble. CJ didn't run, now mccord wont run...FORGET IT! Titles aint happening like this. BTW guys, MH Jr is great. BUT he is not electrifying and he is not fast-fast. He creates seperation very well, makes crazy catches, and he runs routes insanely well BUT he really isn't that great in open space. OSU needs faster WR's who are electrifying AF. I think there are as many as at least 10 WR's that are significantly better than MH jr. Both oregon and washington have better WR's, and seceral of them, that are better than MH jr. Ryan day isn't osu's future, he needs to go, sooner than later. He is very UNAGGRESSIVE and this doesn't work.
