Yeah, the reason is that is simply will not work. PVC is great for some garden projects, but much too week and flimsy for this application. Thank you for asking

Have a question that should be straight forward. When setting up a trellis for tomatoes and cucumbers do you go east to west or north to south. Half my friends say east to west the other half say north to south. The main wind comes from the west through out the summer then from the north west starting in fall. Have some protection from the wind in the fall. Does it matter. Normally I use cages for tomatoes Last years cucumber trellis were the wrong type of fence with a eight inch verticals hole by 12 inch horizontal hole. Local. Stock panel suppliers are having problems getting them the price is $90 a panel. Will be using 4 x 4 by four foot high sheep fence 10 gauge top and bottom stran with 12 gauge in the middle

@urbanfarmstead

Dollar store pantyhose make excellent supports for the larger melon variety since they expand with the 🍉. Insert the melon when it is the size of a softball, flower side in first and loosely tie the stem end of the hose onto the fence. I’ve been doing this successfully for years! I also use hose to put my onions up stacked one on top of the next with a knot between each onion. Hang the tube-o-onions and simply clip at the base of the knot to release one onion. Never have a moldy onion ruin the lot. Good luck to you!

Do the squares need to be a certain size? I was shopping for cattle paneling and I found a cheaper panel, but the squares were bigger. I wasn't sure if that would be a problem for the plants. Would they still climb the trellis?

Jacob Sweeney theses not a specific size that’s necessary in my opinion, but I dii ok like the openings to be large enough to reach any hand through.

Great concept. I'm wondering where you found 8' male threaded conduit? I'm only finding 10'. The hog fencing is pretty accessible.

It shall be done. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for and here it is. And the 10' beds--my brain says lengthwise, but shorter rows make much more sense. Question--why 3/4 in pipe--would 1/2" work as well, or isn't it strong enough?

Thank you for your video. I grew winter squash this summer, and the vines were all over the yard! I love this easy trellis to keep them more confined. I'm going to check out your other videos.

So useful. Would there be any problem if i replace the galvanized conduit pipe for a PVC one. It´s cheaper to me, so i would rather prefer it. Greetings from Peru.

Angela Jimenez Huamanlazo thank you! It could definitely work but just keep in mind that it will be strong but not as strong, so if you get extremely strong winds it could bend or even break. I think it would be fine though.

Is the pipe you use meant for water. Now sure why I though it was electrical EMT pipe. My bad. Would EMT pipe fork or do i need the heavier Water Pipe. Still doing my budgeting at this time.
@urbanfarmstead
@urbanfarmstead 3 жыл бұрын
You could use galvanized water pipe, but as you mentioned, it’s more expensive and you really don’t need the thickness, so electrical conduit pipe is what I used.
