Infantry, armor and especially airborne assets, fixed as well as rotary winged, are an often overlooked part of the Battletech universe.

Yeah. When they are mentioned, it's pretty bare bones. AeroTech gets some love, but the poor bloody Infantry are just numbers. "We took the field but lost 30%of our infantry" is how the AAR's probably read.

@@Deridus The machineguns in universe are anything from miniguns to M3 Brownings, so its expected BT body armor benefits from how stupid tough armor is too probably, but theres only so much it can do against jacketed lead at a few thousand rpm.

@@Deridus You really have to get into the books to get a feel for how combined arms are used in the BT universe. Infantry vs mechs is something that happens, but the casualty rates are atrocious. Highly trained, specialized mech killer units have better survival rates, but it's still extremely dangerous. The Gray Death Legion is the best example of specialized mech killer infantry.

There are two things people who don't wear an Urbie fail to understand. The first is, it's not a BattleMech- you attack rather than defend, you will die, it is a shield not a sword.. The second is, not only is an Urbanmech physically unable to effectively retreat, their pilots don't even think of it. If an Urbiejock is relocating, it means you're right where he and his friends want you. We don't give air and artillery directions like "400m due west of Hill 357", we give them your damn street address. And once the civilians are out of the way and it's just property damage, we'll have a special, spicy deliver from Long Tom's Deli on it's way. Delivery in two minutes or less, or the next one is free.

I like the perspective that it is shot from, "from the ground" so to speak. It makes me want a combined arms Mechwarrior game. It reminds me of the MechAssault multiplayer where if you died, you could run around the map as a regular little person.

Urbanmechs are no joke in MW5, especially the AC20 variant, can't kill them fast enough before half your armor and an arm is taken from you.

They do make a good starting enemy mech, and a good tutorial for limb based damage, you clip off their gun arm, and all they got left to throw at you is the small laser. Zombie mechs these aint. Still, I've seen enough of what a ac20 can do to a mech from the hbs game to know that it isn't something you want pointed at you when you round a corner.

On paper, the Urbanmech is a pretty terrible design. Poorly armored, slow and cumbersome, the armament is reasonably strong, but ammo is low... but my heart tells me the little Urbie got it where it counts and every MechWarrior crazy or brave enough to rock into combat against undoubtedly heavier, better armed and armored foes is sure to write his name into the books of history... And this video shows us why.

You don't fight the mech, you fight the man. Urbies are where mechwariors go to retire, hoping to find their souls and maybe redemption before they die. They get stubborn about it.

@@tenchraven I think it's safe to say that the pilots of UrbanMechs fall into one of two categories: 1) Veterans that are either retired or running out the clock until they retire 2) Greenhorns and rookies, that are still learning the ropes of being a MechWarrior In either case, they don't really operate directly on the frontlines, their job is to dissuade smallscale raids by pirates, mercs or bandits. The UrbanMech is fantastic for that job, when you really think about it. Based on the low speed, it's often called a mobile gun emplacement and I think that is a perfect description. Rather than having a bunch of turrets all over the place, you have a few turrets for static defense and a few UrbanMechs that can patrol the area and reinforce the turrets where needed. Only occasionally, you'd end up with a lance of UrbanMechs facing off against an actual fullscale military force, that managed to break through the frontlines... and that's when these mad bastards have to hold the ground until reinforcements arrive... I could totally see that the central aspect of a really cool novel, movie or game.
