UrbanMech is OP, PGI pls nerf - MechWarrior Online

They said it wasn't viable. That if it was added to the game it would have no use. They have never been so wrong.

PGI thought the Urbanmech was a joke. A lot of people did. But some believers asked for it, fought for it, prayed for it. And for once, a company actually LISTENED. Ok so I have to assume this is on the Secret Squirrerl Server, so thank you for being part of the group thats brought us Superiorly Inferior Clan Large Lasers, Clan LBX 10's with the same weight and sloting but less range than its IS cousin. For the simple fact that I dislike ammo explosions O_o and finite ammo ;_; on giant robots, when I was playing "MechCommander 2" I replaced the short-range Heavy AC (they didn't have -2, -5, -10, etc. variants, just the range and damage of one shot) with a PPC, removed the Jump Jets, and then added two Lasers (there is no Small Laser in "MC2"), a SRM (single shot-per-volley, no multiple missiles per shot), two extra plates of Armor (no distinction between Standard and FF Armor), and extra Standard Heat Sinks. Then, I'd take a lance of these modified Urbanmechs and have them swarm bigger mechs. It was glorious and the sparks were numerous and my kills were great. Regretfully, A- my computer cannot handle MWO so I can't even try this out; and B- the restrictions of hardpoints on IS mechs in MWO would mean I couldn't add the weapons I wanted to.

I theorized that a well coordinated group of urbies would actually be quite good with weight matching as they could outgun the equivalent weight in larger mechs. They'd still be easy targets for fast lights though, so light killers would be needed. That particular Urbanmench variant with the AC/20 is considered to be one of the better ones, but that's compared to other urbies, not other lights.

Alot of loads work on it, I have one set up with an ac/2 with four tons worth of ammo, a heck of a lot of heatsinks, two jumpjets, basic eninge, and two flamers... makes for a nice long range light support fire mech with a close range surprise punch..

Hahah oh my. In future, look up guides on mechs before you buy them. metamechs.com is a great place for that. You can buy a bigger engine for it but that will cost 3x as much as the mech you just bought. I recommend you pick a medium or heavy mech until you get the hang of the game. As for *why* it's slow, it was designed as a street fighting mech. The small engine lets it fit a stupidly big gun.

This is a very funny video showing how the Urbanmech's arsenal isn't to be underestimated, but wasn't the original Urbanmech much more limited, with only a top speed of 32 KPH and only 10 shots available for its autocannon? The original Urbanmech also had a jump range of 60 metres as well.

This is true. It is also true that MWO mechs have more armor, speed and options than the original table-top game so it balances out. For example, the stock Urbanmechs might START with a top speed around 32kph, but I bet you dollars to donuts those mechs will get major upgrades from their players within a few games. So expect to see Urbies hitting 60-90 kph with CASE, DHS, Endo and a wide variety of weapons and gear. Add in the fact that the Urbie will be the ONLY mech in-game with a 360 degree torso twist....jeezus, it's going to be very interesting.
