Hi Yarn Lovers,
Here’s a recent yarn purchase I made from Lion Brand to showcase some of the new colours released in the Mandala collection recently. This also follows up from the last video drop where we chatted about the original Mandala colours.
See what I got. What would you make (or have you made) with these wonderful yarns?
Thanks for supporting the channel by watching and commenting.

I love Mandala yarns and the names. They've come up with names from folklore, myths, comic books, cartoons, and games, Nifflers and Doxy from Harry Pottor; Groot, Mantis and Sandman are all Marvel charaters; Ghidorah and Mothra are from Godzilla movies, Bowser, Kappa, and Mooba are from video games Snorks was a cartoon back in 1984, and Slimer is a The Real Ghostbusters cartoon charater, and of course as others have said Andorian is a Star Trek refrence. The rest are from folklore/mythology, trolls, wizards, genies, unicorns, dragons and so forth.

I love Mandala cakes- they make amazing shawls and blankets- I’m glad to see some new color ways too - I will be getting some myself late summer or early fall when I use up what I have on hand - I’ve mixed 2 similar balls together in a project before too like you’re thinking with sandman and it worked up really nicely. That ombré was 😎 awesome! I used shawl patterns “How to crochet a beautiful an easy shawl” by Crystal (Bag O Day) the color way worked very Well with that pattern❤

I love that a lot of the Mandala colors are names of mythical creatures. Andorians are characters from the original Star Trek series, but they were pale blue. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thanks for sharing the new mandala colors are very pretty. I have not bought them yet I still have plenty here of the regular older mandala cakes, bonus ones, mandala ombre the lion brand mandala baby, mandala cupcake and also lionbrand wool dk cakes. The wool dk and cupcake are now discontinued. Ive done shawls, blankets, scarves, caps and wearables over the years. A granny square vest, a lacy mandala sweater, with mandala ombre a granny stitch hooded cardigan and a wave ripple blanket. The lost souls shawl from Fiber spider. Other designers patterns I have used are from Heart hook home, Mama in a Stitch, Make and do crew. I made a big mandala type blanket from the crochet crowd, I think it was better together, nice and lightweight. From Make and Do crew I made the Dahlia scrapghan and used the yarn to make the center dahlia flowers. I think I used 2 or 3 strands together of the same color to make it thicker and a chunky yarn. A few designers have put together pattern roundups for mandala yarn.. that might help too. If you would prefer an email with pictures of the finished products and links to the patterns let me know. 😊

Hi Gary! I have made a shawl from a Mandala Bonus Bundle in the colorway Meowth. It was absolutely gorgeous! The shawl was a free pattern by Kirsten Holloway called Primrose and Proper. One bonus bundle made that whole, glorious shawl. I've also made a mermaid tail blanket using three of the standard Mandala cakes. It was called the Mermaid Lap Blanket by Felene Grammer, also a free pattern. The only caution I have is that this yarn is not anti-pilling. The mermaid blanket needed to be washed several times, and it pilled quite noticeably. Three cakes made a child-sized or teen-sized blanket, and it was absolutely gorgeous, but now I know to save Mandala for hand wash / lay flat projects, at least in my world!

Hi, Gary. Let me first say that I love seeing all yarn, it's fun! I like the green ones. Now, I don't buy any of the mandalas. If I mix colors. I like to pick each color myself. I think you know by now, I'm a neutral person. My house is Browns, Beiges, taupes, and Grays with dark blood red as my accent color. I wear blacks and neutral tones. When I crochet, I tend to use those colors except when making things for others. I let my family pick the colors they like. I still love seeing all the different yarns and colors, also the beautiful things people make from all these different colors. Loved watching you as always. Peace and love 😊💛😀

Hi Gary ty for the Mandala review. I have never used a Mandala cake, but a nice pattern for one may be Juan the yarn addict's spring cal , it's in 4 sections I think. I used Caron cloud cakes and I enjoyed doing the crochet along. I think a little bit of color control would make it look very nice. I did a little bit of color control in the beginning of the 1st part. I like the mandala cakes but can never decide what to buy because of the colors. I like some of the new colors better than the old. The first one with the purples and orange so bright I love, and I like the southwest vibe one. I think Mandalas look good in Crystal's shawls. Right now, I am making up my own pattern of stitches I've used in other patterns. So it started as a square, I think the latter rows thus far may have too many stitches, but I am still going to finish it. It has a lot of neon colors. I got something from Ice yarns that looks like the colorway centaur in the Mandala, and I got some Mandala sequins, I think at Herrschners online. I haven't tried to make anything yet with them it will probably be a shawl or a sweater or a triangle scarf. The blanket will be for my daughter's friend's birthday that I am creating. it has simple stitches. I was going to do a mosaic, but I am not really up to it right now. :) Maybe for next year. Have a nice summer, Your dog is so cute and funny :)

Hello again :) So how should I say this....I don't believe in coincidences but synchronicities I have experienced from time to time = I'm working on a mitered square blanket using Manadala Ombre yarn for the very first time 😀. My learning so far is that the dye lot has to be checked 🙃! The new Mandalas are really nice, I'm going to look around on LB's website, thank you! Pixel has a really good time ❤😆

In answer to your question at the end. I use the Mandala alot for blankets for Hospice, amigurumi's, scarves, hats, gloves, just about anything really. I love the Mandala worked up in Mandala style blanket patterns. I'm actually planning to make a Sophie's Universe with the Nifflers colorway as soon as I finish the one I'm doing right now in regular 4 weight yarn. I wanted to get a feel for how that blanket is made before trying it in a 3 weight. I like it so much that I decided to move forward with a Mandala cake version as soon as I'm done.

I actually wanted to make a C2C Moss stitch throw. Hooked by Robins KZbin channel had a tutorial. I’m using 2balls of Mandela Baby in Rainbow Falls. Very bright! I will probably use white yarn for the border because it’s so bright.

@@urbanyarn I’m not sure if she is on Raveley but I’m currently making the Midnight Swan Morwa Shawl. I purchased it on Raveley. Beautiful shawl. I’m using Hobbii Butterfly yarn in 08 copper color. I’ve gone through 3 skeins and need more of the darkest brown color to finish and make the border. It’s made by a lady in Poland. The pattern is lots of notes and a diagram. It was a challenge. That’s what I wanted.

I haven’t used any of the new colors but I’ve made several rectangular shawls with large crochet hook that makes a light and squishy fabric. I got the pattern from Pretty Peaceful channel. I've had some in my stash for a while, at the moment making BoD one Vision shawl in colour Centaur. Also used Chimera colour for a long scarf and a cowl using Suzette stitch . Also made 2 tops from Cinnamon Stitches called Knockout Crop Top (on KZbin). First cake had 7 knots (some barely 20cm apart), so was disappointed at first, but since then the other 6 cakes have been a lot better! Oh and these are still made in Turkey so I wonder if the quality is different now they are made in India?

I am not a big fan of the mandala yarn, but I have used it in the past. I mainly made baby blankets with them, and one time I made myself a cocoon cardigan. The new colors look great, but I really have a problem with the way the colors change on the yarn. On the ombre version it is better, but on the plain version the colors just change suddenly, which leaves you with an ugly color change if it happens at the middle of the row. And if you try to color control it and cut it so that the color change will be at the beginning or end of the row, you end up wasting parts of the yarn, which I hate...
@urbanyarn
@urbanyarn Күн бұрын
Hello Reggie - I see what you're saying with the colour change and having to control it means much waste. I'm thinking of Mosaic crochet with a solid - I may even marl two Mandalas together to try and offset that obvious colour change.

I don't like the mandala yarns 🧶. They are very rough, and when made into squares, they don't hold the shape. I was crocheting a #crochetshawl from Crystal at #bagoday and ½ way through I took it apart. I perfer Michael's, Hobbi or Herrschners cakes yarns 🧶 more because of the quality of the yarn 🧶 and the beauty at the end of the product. Sorry, my honest opinion...🧶 Hi 🐕 PIXEL 🐕

There are two references that I can think of off-hand regarding the yarn name - and they are spelled differently by virtue of one letter being eliminated. * The first is Andorra, which is a country - or rather a principality - in the Pyrenees Mountains between France and Spain. It is an economically wealthy sovereignty that in recent times has prospered because of heavy ski and tourism industries. Maybe the colorways show up in some ethnic weaving and handiworks or such. * The second would refer to a humanoid species in the Star Trek series and films. In the Star Trek tv series "Star Trek Enterprise" (which is a prequel to Star Trek The Original Series and was the last star trek tv series made in the style of the original Star Trek and should have continued because it was getting better and better) the Andorians figure quite prominently in a number of episodes. The skin coloring of the Andorians is very pale icy blue (so no clue as to how that figures into the yarn colorway) and they have antennae on their heads (similar to those of the character Uncle Martin in the tv series My Favorite Martian). And throughout the series this coloring of the Andorian skin is better and better technically manifested on camera. In conclusion, I do not know why the name Andorrian or Andorian (don't know how it's spelled on the yarn packaging) was used in relation to the naming of the yarn. Would be interesting to find out.
