This older urbex episode was shot when we just started to film our adventures.
we are in Taiwan and visit the famous Wanli UFO Village. One of the most popular abandoned places in the world. Here you can find some popular and rare futuro houses.

I stayed at that nearby tall hotel for a weekend in 1998 and saw those UFO houses, they seemed abandoned then, there is also a nuclear power plant just up the road, and it struck me then how odd that people swam in the sea there, as no doubt the coolant water is dumped into the sea

Construction never finished cause the company went bankrupt. They moved a statue to make way for the construction and the legend is that this brought bad luck. People involved with the project died in strange circumstances and eventually it was abandoned altogether. They've already demolished a significant amount of the original development

The first "UFO house" Futuro no. 001 is in a local exhibition centre and it is in great condition. It's nice to see a whole village of them

Did anyone notice that the Futuro houses structurally held up while some of the Ventura houses collapsed? I guess this proves that a circular shape is usually stronger than a square shape. If this project was abandoned as the urban legend goes, then why did all of the homes look like they were lived in?

bit of a late reply, but they looked populated because they were, by both looters and come-and-go travellers, sometimes a place to sleep for the night, sometimes a permanent home, as in the case of one lady that was seen in the video, living within the residence, most likely without permission.

They were occupied after they were built. People moved out after the accidents As for why they looked occupied now...squatters

For 38 years in the 17th century, Taiwan was a colony of the Netherlands, during which the Dutch killed native Taiwanese to take over Taiwan's land. That resort land is where the bodies of 20,000 people, including Taiwanese and Dutch who died at that time, were buried. So many accidents, deaths, and suicides occurred throughout the construction period because of their resentment, and ghosts have already built this resort as their shelter.

I've actually been in that UFO Village. I was in Taiwan that time, checked in on a different hotel. I was exploring on the seaside when I saw this village. I went and was very amazed by those UFO houses. The place kinda feel sad than creepy though. My Taiwanese friend told me it was supposed to be a tourist spot but was abandoned because of lack of funds to maintain the place, and also people seem to not like the place very much. 😔

There were others "UFO" houses in Taiwan , they were located in Sanzhi. But it is too late for you guys , they were demolished in 2010.

So this is where they got the architecture for Mass Effect 2 with the house pods. Not the saucer shaped ones but the others and in such vast alignment to each other as well. I knew that the game developers did not come up with it themselves but took it design from somewhere. Well well. Its just surreal that they basically just left everything and moved on... TV's and catering supplies and Chairs cutlery is still there... Then again this is Asia. Thanks for sharing.

This is cool, there’s a Futuro here in Melbourne, Australia. It’s currently being used as a storage room but has recently been heritage listed and is very visable to the public. The current company who own it won’t allow anyone near it so it’s cool to be able to see inside these. There is also another genuine one around 2 hrs from Melbourne and are 3 or so replicas here too, built for a theme park in the 70’s.

Those houses are really the answer to our housing crisis as well easy to moderfiy into sustainable designs , so cheap lovely space and would easily incorporate greenery around them. its a shame ideas like this are prevented by greedy bricks and mortar property owners and politions that want permanent fixtures to invest in so they can exploit future homeless working generations :)

Very cool. I came across a futuro home on Route 66 in Illinois by the pink elephant. Nothing in it but it was way cool!!! Also one in Pensacola on the beach. Even has a alien looking out the door at the base. That one is lived in. So exciting to come across these in our travels.

They all need rescuing. I think there were only ever 100 of these made in the world. We should be saving . I think there are only about 60 left in the whole world.
