So happy to see that you did not stop and just took a break. I have enjoyed many of you videos. Are you using a gimbal now and new equipment ? the video quality seems much improved now or at least good enough compared to what it used to be. Anyway there seems to be a lot of abandoned stuff to explore in Canada.
@tanis1435 жыл бұрын
The reason these "renovations" fail is they were not being done properly. I can tell these people started on the inside first, then saw the mold building up and quit. Always start on the outside. Make sure the house is water tight to prevent mold. New roof, new window seals, caulking, etc. Once that is complete then you start on the inside.
@jaynedavis46675 жыл бұрын
Thats what I was thinking, the "ive got a damp house lets fill it with raw pine" not their finest hour, getting double glazing and central heating would have done wonders for it!
@markhinr5 жыл бұрын
And it seems the wet basement needed to be dealt with before proceeding with the interior, too.
@sooth155 жыл бұрын
The room at around the 12 min mark has original (old) wainscoting. You can tell it's the thick stuff, and it's varnished with the old shellac (same as the staircase). It's also not buckled since it was probably nailed down really well to some wooden bracing in behind. I suspect that the hole in the floor was for a second "servant's staircase" leading to the kitchen or one of the less formal first floor rooms. Also the faux wood grain designs on the doors is something I tend to see more often from houses around 1880-1900, so with this one being 1909, it's a trend that was already starting to be a bit old fashioned when the house was built. This was a lovely house.
@TraditionalHymns5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the wainscotting is lovely. You can see that the knotty pine strips were simply glued on, which is probably why they're coming off so soon lol. Although glue isn't all bad, it seems not to be the proper way to affix wood.

Great explore Pam, so glad to see a vid from you! I think the knotty pine paneling buckled because it was installed incorrectly. It can't be installed tight from edge to edge, there has to be a gap at each end covered by molding to let it expand and contract with temp and weather changes. Same goes for floors, if you don't leave a gap it'll buckle up and pop right off. Creepy cistern in the basement: "it puts the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again" 😮
