Your editing skills have come along way since the start of the mongrel build. With speeding up the footage allows far more to be shown in a much shorter time adding to the interest for your video's. Keep them coming mark as this is turning into a great build series.

Nice work Matt. Most weld tubes in that cross member where the tower bolts through. they need to be tight and doesn't take long for it to start to crush.

i think the additional support bars from the bulk head to the front of the subframe you are on about in the regs are to replace the front mounts, as if you have no inner wings theres no support on the front mounts to stop the front subframe from either being pushed up or down in a collision, potentially pushing it up into your feet especially as you have made it extra strong if you wanna borrow an engine to mock it all up give me a shout
@georgebowick57722 жыл бұрын
I agree, I don't see how your existing setup could be legal under the regs. I reckon that you would nee to pick up from your triangular gussets to the cross-member in some way.

I’m always amazed how much room Minis wasted under the hood with a huge bulkhead. It’s like the designer knew they’d be cut out and a bigger engine would be fitted to it

I always wanted to know, if it is possible to cut part of the towers of the subframe and thus mount it higher in the shell. Would this lower the Mini, without reducing the suspension travel? Great and interesting videos Matt. 😀

Max, you’re being polite. Let’s be honest, it looks like it’s going to weigh a ton….🤔
@maxgood43612 жыл бұрын
Well a ton is 2000lbs, with the Honda engine still pretty good weight/power ratio. I am pretty sure he has mentioned what racing class he is entering I just have not gone back to the beginning vid’s to see if he has already stated the obvious. But my thinking is the same as your statement, hoping it’s not a problem.

Hey matt... great work, told ya theres always rust behind there lol, couple questions.. whats the hole in line with the bolts thru the bulkhead at the end of the vid??? AND will u be making more of them miglia tower bolt spacers?? As i was about to buy some elsewhere but yours look better 😀

That hole is there to allow clearance for a captive nut on the inner wing support (removed at the start) the captive nut was a wiring loom earth point

"Leftover bolts from the Titanic?" Just remember these Mini were build at low cost!!!! Everything thats there has a reason! That not a Sculpture - its a Car where physics do count Driving eg 80 miles over a bump there are forces involved I really think (subframe with holes and so on) you want to play in a liga your underqualified.

@philtucker12242 жыл бұрын
Matt, as usual everyone’s being really polite and complimentary about how lovely and strong it’s going to be, but between the lines I’m seeing “blimey it’s going to weigh a ton” … Do the regs offer a minimum weight Matt, and will you try to achieve it?
@jamesfoxall28442 жыл бұрын
Clever bloke.....
@watahyahknow2 жыл бұрын
usually when a car manufacturer can save a buck they will and those subframe mounting bolds must cost quite a bit to be mounting them without a good reason , starting to wonder if they realy NEED to be that strong as the whole car hangs of it being pulled by the engine punshed on during braking and jumping by the full weight of the back of the car , it would be a BAAAD thing it the car broke loose from the front subframe halfway through the race , besides that the public and fellow racers would never let you live it down as the engine running away at full trottle from the car on its front wheels and the exhaust would be a sight to see would pull those bolts out once in a while and die check them for stress cracks , shouldnt be too hard to get too with everything in place
