Yes, please continue to keep us informed. This has been a shock to everyone all over the world. It was so sudden! And only President Yoon can know his reasons for his decisions, because even his party members were surprised. Please stay strong. It felt like longer than six hours. Is it true that there was no gunfire? If so, that is commendable, and your country can be proud of that.

While shocked at the news of Marshall Law, was glad to see the legislature quickly come together and revolt said Law. Not sure about the politics that brought that action on but sounds a lot like attempted coup to install a dictator. Anyway am praying for the government and people of South Korea that your democracy stays strong. Best wishes to all of South Korea.

You may have misread the situation. It seems that the president had a tantrum because his operating budget had been reduced owing to there being a blow out of overspending, so president Yoon declared martial law with a lame excuse about NKorea. It doesn't make sense, in order to save SKorea from dictatorship, he announced martial law, which is dictatorship.

Why did it start? Why did the President declare martial law in the first place?
@MayaTheDecemberGirl29 күн бұрын
It seems that he was losing support, and there was probable that the opposition will take over. I've read that with the votes of the opposition the amendments to the state budget were rejected, which would have consequences for his further politics. And also the opposition was attempting to dismiss some key officials. So the political fight within the country, as it seems.

Thank you for sharing your updated news with us AKM. It must be dreadful for all of you in Seoul. Until we learn differently, it would appear from our understanding in the West…that Yoom Suk Yeol has taken leave of his senses! Whilst this must leave all of you great people with an uncomfortable concern, I do have an innate feeling you won’t come to harm + life will return peacefully once more. And Mr Yoom will be ousted. Meantime, I wish you + your lovely fiancé are able to carry on as before this unnecessary crisis. Until next time…🙋♀️😁🇬🇧

This hasn’t gotten much press coverage in Canada after the initial articles, as soon as i read about this i knew South Koreans understand democracy and this would not stand long. I tell me children that freedom has been bought by spilled blood, too easily given away and so difficult to ever get back. I am wishing to learn much more about this event as we all need to support democracies and hold people accountable in their efforts to topple freedom of the people. My prayers are with you and united we all stand for freedom and democracy. Cheers.

I've read that the current President, even before his yesterday's action with the martial law, was much unpopular within the Korean society. That he already had only about 19% of support within voters, and about 70% of the negative electorate (so of people opposing to his politics). So now probably the support for him will drop even lower.

We‘ll see how long he will stay as a president, the opposite parties started to make a vote of no confidence and if only 10 of Yoons party are voting with the opposite against him, he has to go… it can only gets better for SK, Yoon is known global as the SK Donald Trump, that says it all!? Stay strong !
