So I am a store in the US. I have 6 major vendors, not 1 is charging more than normal. They only start to charge more after release. There is a few dollar difference between each vendor, but no reason to cancel and raise more. Our store is starting to send out invoice for prismatic, we wait until we have full allocations prior to selling.

And that's why you are a good retailer. I have no sympathy for those who commit to a sale and then cancel a paid order months later for "resaons". Things happen, I get that, but don't even recieve payment for sonething if there's the slightest chance you can't deliver.

2025 Will be the DEATH of LGS. And I'm here for it... We have 100's of new TCG stores being launched online from basements all across America. They're all over KZbin. We have no overhead and we have better prices. We trade at a higher percentage and pay at a higher percentage. We do it for the passion of the hobby. KZbinrs getting access to distro, these LGS stores cancelling orders will be death of them. Best of luck.

The thing is that there are stores that are getting too greedy but this will damage their business in the future. Of course the majority of people don’t know what goes behind the curtains. Many customers will stop buying from stores that cancelled their pre orders only to list them for a higher price. The thing is that most of these stores that are doing this are basically getting a lot from their customers. As far as distributors, they usually have a price for release, then any waves/reprints after that it’s a different price. Regardless, I do believe the stores that are doing this will loose a lot of customers, it may not affect their business right now, but eventually a year or two down the road once the market calms down and all the scalpers leave the hobby, that’s where they will start to feel the effects. It’s one thing if the store cannot fulfill the pre order amount due to not getting enough product and it’s another thing to just cancel all pre orders just to resell the product for a much higher product. I will say this, 2025 will be a rough, prices will be out of wack, many will give up because they can’t get product for a reasonable price, it’s basically going to be 2020-2021 all over again.

This is what I think happened, distributors slashed allocations. They are still filling new orders though at higher prices. So if stores want to fill the gap between what their customers bought and what their allocation is, they have to put in a new order at higher prices. So while they aren’t technically raising the prices, the effect is the same. I could be wrong though.

Brian from PokeNE was spot on. He saw this shit coming early and did very little in preorders for PE. There is a reason some stores fail and others succeed and a lot of it comes down to how well they are run.

To me this is borderline illegal behavior on part of those stores. By which I mean I am wanting make it illegal, but kind of on the fence. If they fail to stock up enough product because of allocations: sure, whatever - not their fault, even though they should have been more responsible with their pre-orders. However, allowing for pre-orders and then cancelling them because they can get a greater profit is so shady. The customer has already paid for the product, so if they're able to get enough product for the pre-orders they put out, there is no excuse to renege on the deal. The customer is bound to their deal by letting go of their money - so the stores should be bound by letting go of better offers. Although, I kinda wish the whole "pre-order" concept could be abandoned altogether. It's really not a good deal for consumers.

Use to work for one of the bigger card retail stores in Canada, I was put in charge of ordering products after a few years working there. Out of those years, we only had 3-5 products that increase in cost for Pokemon products by a large margin due to a mistake of the distributors, other times would be a few dollars up or down when distributors they get allocation closer to release. So i think stores that are refunding cause of the market really, I have ask a different store where i knew the owner if the price really did increase, told me no, just that they got cut on product hard and would need to buy more at a higher price for the next wave (which i think is a dick move by distributors, we only have 3 big ones in Canada so not much options).

It really doesn't make sense that a store would cancel pre-orders just to relist the product at a higher price so they can make more money. They should know that this action would absolutely destroy their reputation and the possible future of their business. A short term gain for their business going under doesn't make a ton of sense. The story I hear is the supplier broke the promise of a certain price only to relist it at 3x the price. Put the store in a very tough situation, how could they loose $70 per ETB if they honoured their pre-order price?

The problem with that story is there are lots of LGS owners with distro access saying that is bullshit and that distro does not do that for first wave, so it’s hard to believe that story.

Owners of said store have been pillars of the community for many years. I pre-ordered Surging from them, and even when the price spike when the set released they still honoured the pre-order price. So I tend to go by innocent until proven guilty. Just me though.

I got a question cause I'm not sure how stuff is working for pre-order When you pre-order something, the shop is basically using your money to buy that stuff right? So when they cancelled something that you've already paid, they're basically using your money to buy that item, cancel your order then sell that item at a much higher price without using their own money. Correct me if I'm wrong.

My order was the case that was cancelled and shown in the video by Rob. It was from Forever Pokenerds. No reason or explanation just cancelled and refunded. I havent seen them relist yet but im sure they will. Dont buy from them.

Hey, they did this to me, too. I pre-ordered a case of surging sparks all the way back in August, and the week of release, they just refunded me my money and didn't even cancel my order. I contacted the two heads, and they gave me different excuses on why my order was refunded.

Maybe look at the FTC regulations. Seems a bit deceptive if they don’t honor the advertised pricing on preorders. I took a Quick Look but would need to read the regulations more carefully.

I’ve seen in the past where they get the price, but their allocations get dropped. I’ve also seen where these distributors will be offered it at their normal price, but will be required to purchase thousands of dollars in “add-ons” (calendars, stickers, folders, etc…).

Could not agree more! Listen I get stores are businesses and the point of business is to make as much profit as you can but people don’t forget there’s a thing called BAD business. This is bad business and we as the consumers have the power if the majority work together and don’t pre order or purchase from theses stores practicing BAD business. I feel the stores should be called out personally but I respect Rob for not mentioning. IMO they should be called out because as a business you don’t just get to reap all the rewards and have no responsibility to your customers. This is why I don’t really care to see people making for sale posts on Facebook and they write “ price is X buy from me or don’t it will sell either way” lol I’ve seen that written multiple times for prismatic pre orders and can’t help but think what a douche who would buy from this guy?? People work too hard for their money to give it to douche sellers or bad business practicing stores. It takes a lot for it to happen and make an impact but remember people there’s real power in boycotting

Probably not a ton of those out there after they dropped them down to 2, so can't wait to see what it does LOL. I typically only buy from large scale reputable sellers. Couple on Ebay. The two, didnt cancel my preorders for Surging Sparks, so lucky. there.

Even if they honored the pre-orders and raised their prices on the subsequent expansion of cards, most customers wouldn't remember or care about the previous preorder they fulfilled. Pokemon will fly off the shelves no matter if the customer loves or hates them

just seen a post on reddit talking about they are expecting to receive there 2nd restock of prismatic and it aint gonna be that much around may/june... So this kinda confirms for the rest and for the future of this set, this shit is gonna be gone probably for half this year. This was from a Australian store so do as you will with this information. I am not familiar with Australian stores but I feel as though them saying may/june for there 2nd restock is some crucial information

I can confirm this is true. Pre orders after the 9 Nov were pushed back to may/Jun. ETBs and etb cases only at the moment. I was one of these people that got pushed back. Hope that helps with your curiosity.

Unless you absolutely need it on release, you're probably better off not paying $80 for an ETB. I was lucky and managed to get my stock just before the prices were increased the first time, but I would end up waiting if the prices rose before I could order my stock. It'll end up close to MSRP again in 2-3 months, at least if 151 is an example to go by.

The store Rob mentions in Canada is in a tough situation. You're right, Distro hasn't raised prices. But the store in Canada is buying from a whole seller who promised those prices. The whole seller then changes the pricing recently. It's a small online business run at a home, are they expected to take over 100k loss on it because of a whole seller? That business normally has some amazing prices and never had an issue before, including with Surging Sparks. Pretty unfair situation.

Stores have to make money too, or they won’t be able to stay open for people to play there for free. Publically shaming stores because they want to stay open, leaving negative feedback and trying to burn them down is the main reason why the Internet is stupid. I’m not saying anything about you, but this video may incite people to try to do that. And let’s be realistic here, how much interest is your 60 dollars for 45 days? If a store is putting up preorders at a certain price they are making money at that price point. It’s not like they are putting orders up at a loss. Awful straw man as well saying it’s $60 tied up. Try hundreds if not thousands for a lot of people. That’s opportunity cost for many in the hobby. Class is honouring a deal you agreed to. Like I said in a couple comments here, you can’t have it both ways.

@@PokeProfit lol on last point, but it's more than that. The reason I don't care for his video is that he accomplished nothing with it but place fear in the communities mind. He had the information. He waved it around for everyone to see sharing personal correspondence between the buyer and seller, but when it came time to actually assist the buying public in making an informed purchasing decision, he, I feel, weaseled out. If his video simply was "buyer beware, prebooks being cancelled", that's fine, but for what he did, he ended up protecting a seller that cost - what I assume is many people - a chance at getting prismatic at a "reasonable" price, when I assume, prebooks were more readily available. We all make mistakes, and I'm actually very tolerant to minor mistakes, but once you start taking money from people for an extended period of time and not deliver, it's fair that they are held up to a different standard.
