The Wizard, The Gypsy, Stealin', Lady In Black, Rainbow Demon and Traveller In Time. Demons and Wizards from 1972 are a masterpiece. The great line up featuring David Byron vocals, Mick Box guitar, Ken Hensley keys, Lee Kerslake drums and Gary Thain bass. Mick Box are the only one alive today

Although Uriah Heep had a keyboard player, Ken Hensley, the MiniMoog Synthesiser was played by another famous keyboard player, Manfred Mann who had his own 1960's band and later Manfred Mann's Earth Band.

David Byron, the singer, sits on the Mount Olympus of singers. The tone of his voice, alone, is truly spectacular. Never mind the power and control he has. Best of all, though, is the conviction in his voice. You should hear him sing a song called Rain. Their songs were often very hopeful and often evoke images of the sun. One of my favorites of theirs is a song called Pilgrim.

I am from Russia. In the early 70th every summer I spent my time in a summer camp, I was a high school boy. In the evening we often had a kind of dancing, and "july morning" was our favourite song. So we adored to dance slowly under "july morning" song. Thank you very much! And sorry for my bad english!

Mick Box was the first man wearing make-up I'd ever seen in my life, during a TV performance and when I was 6 or 7 😄 And their 'Lady In Black' is the best 2-chord song ever, in my opinion 😊 'Bird Of Prey' is another favourite 😀👍

Born in ‘74. Only learned of them as, being a metal head in the late 80’s/early 90’s caused me to dig lots of classic rock, which got me into bands like Yes and Jethro Tull and more. I was only one or about three of my buddies in high school circa 1991 (or before or after) who dug ‘em. Heheh. Maybe it helped because I was into Dungeons & Dragons, read a bunch of fantasy and sword & sorcery fiction etc . Heh Amazing musicians. Decent lyrics. Great vocals. As much as I like ‘em sometimes too close to cheese, but the talent cannot be ignored at all.

That track is from there 3rd album look at yourself... You mentioned the drums..listen to the track (look at yourself)..you will love the drums..especially the ending..and its heeps heaviest album...its also got 2 really heavy tracks..(tears in my eyes) AND ((shadows of my grief) ..thats why some labeled them metal .they were really heavy not really metal..classic rock prog rock..they have a song called gypsy Ist album...and bird of prey...2nd album..which were termed metal There a bit like deep purple which i love..but for me heep were my favourite 🎵🎹🎸👍love them..always..thanks again

Every year, thousands of people spend the night before July 1 at Black Sea beaches and meet the sunrise while listening to 'July Morning'. Most of the photos in the video are from those meetings. In the 1970s in the UK there was a sort of holy trinity of rock bands which was comprised of Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. However, at that time some people thought there should be afourth member - Uriah Heep. IMHO they were a victim of the superb quality of the music around at the time. I was fortunate enough to see them live at Preston Guild Hall in (I think) 1975. I thought they were great and David Byron's vocal performance was superb (RIP). As an aside, I don't agree with your thoughts about 1970s drums. My favourite band of that era is Led Zeppelin. The whole power of that band came from John Bonham and his drumming. Black Sabbath - the drums are hugely present in everything they did. The same with Deep Purple and Ian Paice and also The Who and Keith Moon (where the drumming was an absolutely integral part of the shape of the band).Maybe what you're saying applies to other genres of that era? However, I do agree about the similarities with Deep Purple. Both were organ driven 5 piece bands. I agree that Dave Byron's voice was excellent. Uriah Heep still perform to this day, but only Mick Box (lead guitarist) survives of the original lineup. I am very glad that they are still performing, but to my mind they have never quite hit the spot since David Byron departed the group. If you want to hear other great tracks by this group I would recommend listening to their "Magicians Birthday" album. To me that is their best album. The title track "Magician's Birthday" is great, "Tales", Sunrise", "Sweet Lorraine" and "Rain" are also worth a listen. From other albums "Gypsy" is a very good rock track and "Lady in Black is quite haunting". They produced much good music over a long period of time. My favourite is "Confession". Dave Byron is still the lead singer and it is from the "High and Mighty" album. Probably the last one he featured in. It is a very short track and it is not a rock track, but to my mind is very emotional and portrays a situation most of us have probably felt at some time or other.

You know, you hear this song sung by David Byron (RIP David, a long time ago), but what you see is photos from the Bulgarian shoreline. From this song originates a new tradition in my country - when we celebrate the sunrise on July 1st every year (luckily the Black Sea is to the East :) ) On the pics you saw John Lawton who had been singing this song for years. There was a time when I loved this, but not so much any more. I just don't think Uriah Heep is a band that has aged well. All the elements are there, but for some reason they don't hang together in a way I can appreciate. Uriah Heep tended to be a bit airy and fey where Deep Purple were more earthy and hard edged. Stonehenge by Spinal Tap comes to mind. That said, I do think Ritchie Blackmore took some inspiration from this for the Dio fromted incarnation of Rainbow.
