Hi dr. Jack - thank you so much for these videos. I live in nyc and I broke out into really bad hives and went to urgent care and they gave me prednisone and a Pepcid and Benadryl. Took 2 prednisone a day for 5 days and the other medication for two weeks, it calmed my hives down but it came back slowly near the end of the two weeks and has been flaring up a bit again. I’m prone to acne and now my face has erupted all of a sudden over the past couple days with some clusters of small bumps like I’ve had on my body (mainly inner thigh and my fingers and arms with a little on underarms and back- they are VERY itchy) I saw an allergist last week and they did skin testing on me (which after watching your videos they probably should have not since my skin was already inflamed!). Found out I was allergic to cats and dust mites but that can’t be it bc I haven’t been around cats and my skin didn’t react super horribly to the dust mites prick. I wish I could have you examine my skin in nyc, would you be open to doing a virtual or email consultation? Im embarrassed to go into work this week with my skin on my face especially looking like this, im 25 years old and work in private banking and our appearance is very important in my job role. Please help

I started your treatment while I was going through all the allergy testing protocol and it helped me a lot during those weeks I was not still prescribed by my allergist. Also I take 1mg. Of klonipin for anxiety and it also helps me sleep and I usually take it with benadryl. If I switch the ZZ method is it safe to take my klonipin if i need it? I only the it around 6 times a month
@drjackallergy1066 жыл бұрын
Hannah: please excuse my delay in responding. It is fine to take the Z/Z therapy with the Klonopin, but as you are aware, the drowsy side effects can be significant. So please use with caution. BTW, anxiety and stress are a classic contributing trigger in chronic idiopathic urticaria. I would be curious to have you email me your past treatment options and regiments provided by your past clinicians before we jump to traveling to see me, as I might be able to offer some suggestions for labs and/or treatment through discussion. Just as an FYI, current guidelines state that for the most severe chronic idiopathic urticaria, patients can use up to six (6) cetirizine a day with the addition of Ranitidine (Zantac). My email is jack_mutnick@yahoo.com Please email me your history of hives, past lab results and treatment regimens so I might be able to assist with further recommendations. Sincerely, DrJackAllergy

I have suffered for 6 months and all previous uv, steroid and differing anti histamine did not work with flares recurring.. after my latest anxiety bout, I researched and found your advice and I have now been on the z+z regime for two weeks and it is starting to make a difference. Q: if I am to be tested for what foods cause me an allergy, should I stop the z+z treatment so the allergy results are based only on my body function as is? And if so for how many days before the tests should I stop the z+z intake?

Thank you I really appreciate the information on catering I’ve had hives for years and they come and go but when they come they make me suffer. I found for me tapering off completely does not work I have done one 10 mg every day and if I stay on that they usually don’t come back . I really just learned that myself and recently I stopped all together and I have the worst flareup ever. So I intend to live on one 10 mg once I get back in control. 😰

Hi Dr. Jack, about three weeks ago I starting breaking out in hives for the first time and it lead to anaphylaxis. I was seen by an immunologist who believed it wasn't related to anything specific and called it "acute urticaria". I was told to take Allegra (2 pills twice a day) and Pepcid (1 pill twice a day). I was having some weird side effects and was then told to switch to xyzal (2 pills twice a day) and Pepcid (1 pill twice a day). It seems as though the side effects I am experiencing from this is even worse than the Allegra. I have always been someone who is very sensitive to medications and am beginning to think that antihistamines don't work for me. I am conflicted because if I stop them I start breaking out again but the side effects I am receiving are things like intense vertigo, feeling groggy, tired, lightheaded, etc and its been hard to live my normal life. Any advice?

Hello doctor, many thanks for such an informative video. I am fighting with urticaria for the last 20 months. I am taking cetirizine 10 mg once at night but it does not work during dry season. I then started taking cetirizine 10 mg with montelukast 10 mg once at night which is also not effective. Further montelukast led me to the lower right abdominal pain. After watching this video, I have a feeling that my cetirizine dose is not sufficient, especially during dry season. Let me take cetirizine 10 mg plus ranitidine 150 mg twice a day and start following your weekly taper once I am hive free for two months. According to my allergy test, I am also allergic to so many food. Do I need to avoid these foods during medication? I am desperate to have an online consultation with you. Do you have such service available?

Hello Dr. Jack, I would like to ask the question about urticaria and andioedema. I have had huge problem with idiomatic urticaria at the end of pregnancy with my son and it was very stressful time for me. Itchiness and skin rings stayed for 7-8 weeks after my son was born. I used to live in Ireland that time. I stayed on the Zirtec for one year after that and then l lower dose and finally stopped. I had no problems with any hives for about 8 years after that. 2 years ago I moved to Vietnam and since 2 months urticaria came back accordingly with andioedema first time in my life. I am on high dose of Fexofenadine at the moment 180mg twice a day. I don't know what to do and how to cure it completly? I have had all tests done in here, I have very low allergy to dust mites and penicilin but I am avoiding both. C1 and C3 and C4 inhibitors are normal. I haven't changed my diet or cosmetics. I heard about medicine called Omalizumab, but I don't know if I should go for it? I would like to cure this hives and andioedema completly cause I would like to have second child and I won't be allowed to take that high doeses of antihistamine during pregnancy. Without antihistamie, urticaria and andioedema appears 3-5 times a week.......everywhere......I had it already on my lips, chicks, forhead, eyelids, in abdominal wall, hands, legs........Please advise me what to do? what do you think would be a good solution for me? Thank you so much and thank you for your videos. I found them very educative and helpful. Allergy is a not easy thing to live with. Best regards, Dominika

My son just turned 10 years old in December. He has gotten “hives” per his allergist doctor has diagnosed it as chronic. It started one day with his hands and feet itchy. Then with Benadryl it calm it down. So about weeks later he woke up one day with light red spots in his chest but they disappeared after he showered. Then it was getting worse so I took him to his primary doctor and she did a routine check up and prescribed him Benadryl. Days later the hives came back red but not itchy. It usually appears under his arms, lower abdomen, and upper legs. And remind you my son says that they are not itchy and I never see him scratching.So we seen a allergist on January and did some blood lab work and came back normal for underlining immunity but it did came back that he is allergic to dust mites. My question is that maybe the specialist missing something? How would I know? And now he is taking Cetirizine 10mg once a day and it does help him I haven’t seen any signs of the hives/spots only if he misses a dose. Can it be symptoms of something else going on in his system? Please Dr help me get answers. Thank you God bless.

Dr. How much famotidine should I take with the cetirizine? Also what do you think about hydroxyzine? My allergist originally prescribed 10 mg of cetirizine morning, 20 mg of famotidine morning and night and 30 mg of hydroxyzine at night. I've had CIU for 4 months and have hives from head to toe. My thyroid antibodies were at 280 and recently was given 50 mcg of thyroid medication.

Hi Doc. Any info you can pass on regarding the condition Dermatographia ? Incidentally , my Dermatographia started after taking 2.5 weeks of antibiotics for a uti, nitrofuration (3 days) and then a couple days later amoxicillin for 7 days, since the bug was resistant to the first antibiotic. Three days later after taking my last amoxicillin antibiotic I had itching and then I noticed signs of Dermatographia. I should also mention during all this I was sleeping very little due to stress and my emotions were up and down ! In your professionalsl opinion , are antibiotics a trigger for this condition? If so, what is the prognosis? I have not taken any antibiotics for three weeks and am still reacting. Which doesn’t make sense. Remove the irritant , stop the reaction right ? Thanks for your time

"This is the latest step in an ongoing investigation of a contaminant known as N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) in ranitidine medications (commonly known by the brand name Zantac)." There has always been debates about long term effects of many medications so I cannot speak on any other issues. I am also posting the link. The Benadryl is knocking me out so I’m excited to try your protocol and I happen to have Xyzal on hand. Just one question, please. Why an acid reducer? In what way does that affect hives? I’m going to buy Zantac and try it today, but I’d like to understand why. Also, I have asthma and systemic sclerosis. I’ve heard autoimmune diseases increase the risk for this condition. Xolair is a monoclonal antibody used on an every other week to once monthly basis for very difficult to control hives. We tend to reserve this as a "last resort" therapy, but it also has been shown to be successful for chronic idiopathic urticaria. Hope this helps. DrJackAllergy

Dr. J, I have been diagnosed with CIU and angioedema. There are no words to describe the torture this brings. I take the Zyrtec/Zantac. It helped for the first 2 weeks i started taking it, then everything went to hell in a handbasket and I break out every day again! Can i take Z/Z regimen 3 times a day?? I'm so desperate as I'm sure many others are! What about stomach enzymes? Like hydrochloric acid and bromelain???

Had hives for 1st time ever this weekend. Found this and trying it. Went to walkin and he gave me a shot and steroid pack. About 2 hours after I came home hives were way worse. Trying your Z & Z treatment. Now.. how do I find out why I got these? I'm doing the keto diet and have been for a year and a half. Any ideas? everything I've eaten or drank in the past few days I've had before. HELP?

Can I mix Allegra and Zyrtec that is take one tablet allegra at night and one tablet of Zyrtec in the morning
@drjackallergy106 Жыл бұрын
Yes although I’d use the Allegra in the morning and the Zyrtec in the evening as Allegra should not cause any drowsiness. It does not cross the blood brain barrier. Hope this helps. DrJackAllergy

Thanks doctor! What is your opinion on Xolair? Does it work for cholinergic urticaria? Or it only works for chronic idiopathic urticaria? Antihistamines do nothing for me. I have cholinergic urticaria

Where you start scratching wet your hand, pour some bi-carbonate in your hand and rub it on the itch. It works every time.

Sir please reply, i have been taking taking 10mg cetrizine every six hours which is 40mg a day and raintidine 150 mg twice a day from last four months continuous. I am still getting some flares . What should I do? If I try to reduce any dose I get my full body flare up. My doctor says I got latent TB. They can't treat me with immunosuppressive.

Hi doc, does this treatment work with heat-induced hives? (cholinergic urticaria)
@drjackallergy1062 жыл бұрын
It does. The treatment is focused on the hives itself and reduces histamine.

I will try the taper. I've had hives for over a month now, my medications are levoceritizine, piriton and predisolone. I took that for five days after which i take them once when i have an episode. Is this healthy?

So this is my first time ever having hives, just so i understand correctly i take Zyrtec and once its cleared up I continue taking it for 2 more months and slowly stop taking it as you said? Its like $27 a bottle for 70 pills so just want to make sure.

Jons Get your Dr. to write a script for the generic Zyrtec. My insurance pays for it. I have hives and only that bad steroid helps low dose. I am not a dr. so speak to your family dr. about any and all meds.
