Actually no. We had an unbelievable forward line (Suarez, Cavani and prime Forlan), but going back we didn't have that much to play with. Godin was a great defender but that was about it. We played the only football we could play with those players, running like monsters for the honor of the shirt and slamming the ball upward so our strikers could maybe catch it. Nowadays we have much better players on every position. I can only dream of seeing Valverde, Ugarte and Araújo playing with the 2010 front three. But we're 3 million and we'll probably never be able to produce a true golden generation with world class players to spare like some bigger nations. What we do is plenty for our size.

​@@AndresMagnone Somewhat true, though I believe Uruguay can genuinely win WC 2010. The team can beat any 2010 team in any given day, albeit lacking a little in squad depth. Plus I dont think 3 million pop is lacking for producing enough top players, Croatia is also 3 mil country too and they genuinely challenged for the title in the last 2 WC. Afterall, a country only needs to select 23 players. League quality and training system is far more important than population number.

Except they weren´t exactly a trident, since that team played on 4-4-2 because all three were strikers. So there were always just two of them on the pitch. But yeah, all crazy good. Imagine having Cavani be your third choice for a striker.

The officiating was horrible that game. Really tilted in favour of the Dutch. The reality unfortunately is finances. How much money would Uruguay bring in compared to Holland in the final against Spain? The non call on the Van Persie offside is but one example of how the referee decided the outcome of this game. If VAR had existed back then the outcome would have been different...then again we have all seen the failure of VAR at the 2022 WC.

The different would be if the arbitration was not so bad, there were 13 errors, 2 goals in the Netherlands, many wrong offsides or passed offside, one hand in the half moon, many fouls no called, players who played free. And only one error in favor of Uruguay, and it was irrelevant because the ball went out and was whistled for offside. And also Suarez did not play because another 3 errors by the referee in the same play of the match against Ghana
