Along with Don Siegel's THE KILLERS and John Boorman's POINT BLANK, this is one of the first neo-noir films. An underrated picture, directed by Hollywood veteran Gordon Douglas, who made KISS TOMORROW GOODBYE with James Cagney back in 1950. The musical score by Jerry Goldsmith is first class. Last but not least, the star is Frank Sinatra. His performance is trenchant and strong. A very cool cop. The scene where he's talking with the beautiful Jacqueline Bisset is sublime Sinatra. Calm yet intense, sitting back in his chair, wearing a white shirt, his blue eyes gaze on Bisset. The supporting cast, led by Lee Remick at her best, is professional all the way. Solid. P.S. A great poster in blue with Frank to top it off.

Never saw the movie, but the music is intriguing. Jerry Goldsmith had a wonderful range in his movie scores.

In a class of his own, better even than his Chinatown score

And to think the sequel, Nothing Lasts Forever became Die Hard.
