Been driving this from Medford to Cresent City to Eureka for decades. Contemplating a motorcycle ride to Brookings tomorrow.

Thank you again, Kyle, for this memorable route which I drove for 30 years. Indeed, 199 and its landscape have changed dramatically in just the past 5 years. The Southern Oregon climate has dried out significantly, and the fires continue every summer, brought on by annual, oppressive monster summer heat waves. For that reason I am seriously considering moving out of Southern Oregon. Crime rates in the Rogue Valley are out of control, and the State politicians refuse to contain the drug crime, vagrancy, criminally mentally ill, and homelessness. I have called Josephine County my home for 30 years, but is driving many good residents away. Behind the natural beauty of Southern Oregon is a dark theme, one perpetuated by bad "management," a familiar thing to us on a federal level also.

Northern California is such a gem. From the eastern part all the way at tahoe all the way to the coast and everywhere in between like Shasta. You could spend a lifetime exploring

Did you move out of the Valley? Places like O'Brien and Cave Junction have seen dramatic increases in crime.

I remember as a youth hitchking down to Cali with my brother, some 40 years ago. We got picked up by a hippie couple in Grants Pass and rode in the back of their old pickup to Crescent City. Nice people. Ah, those were the days.

Always a great drive. Still, it looks like you pulled the plug on going up the Oregon Coast. I recall planning to head up that Coast, 3 different times. Each time, I never made it farther than Brookings. Weather or time considerations would cause me bail on the idea, and backtrack to 199. Though I've heard that the Oregon Coast is spectacular, I never did get to see it.

Lived in grants pass in the late 80s and would drive 199 to crescent City CA at Christmas to visit my her in laws at crescent City. It's really bad with snow.

I love that drive along 199! Scenic the whole way. I had never heard of the Winnemucca to the Sea highway before. That sounds like an awesome drive! Hopefully you can do a video of the entire route some time.

Hwy 140 is supposed to be the extension of 199 to Winnemucca. Dang lonely out there.

@@mwngw Sure is! I've driven the stretch from Denio Junction to 395, and it's one of the most beautiful and isolated stretches of road I've ever been on. The section right after you cross into Oregon is awe inspiring.

I grew up in Crescent City and now live in Brookings. How many times have I driven US 199 in 48 years of driving? Many times, yet I still enjoyed this video. I always thought the tunnel was like a portal that divides the highway from California scenery to Oregon scenery.

Well done, Kyle. This is a drive I'd like to take for myself one of these days. You were in Bigfoot country again... As for fire scars? Sad to say I'm familiar with those. The 2020 Creek Fire burned along and even jumped CA 168 above and below Shaver Lake, and I was actually evacuated for ten days due to the fire (they stopped it a few miles from home and the town of Auberry, so I was fortunate. And I was in Sequoia NP two months ago, and there's damage from the KCF Fire along Generals Highway in the park....
