US-50 in Nevada | The Loneliest Road in America Part Three: Eureka to Ely, Nevada

In July of 1986, Life magazine dubbed Nevada’s Highway 50 the “Loneliest Road in America.” This is the final video of the three part series featuring the Loneliest Road in America. This video features US-50 east from Eureka to Ely, Nevada. In this video we cross some truly desolate landscape, which is home to around 1 person per square mile.

My grandmother grew up in Ely, before moving to a new upstart town called Las Vegas in 1940. She would often tell me stories about how Ely was more known than Las Vegas, and how her mail would often go to Las Vegas, New Mexico by mistake. I’ve never been given its location off the beaten path, but now that my 20s are out of my system, I hope to go sometime in the next few years.

What an incredible ride! I love the straightaways, endless mountain ranges and rural beauty. While it may be almost empty with people, you get reacquainted with nature. Awesome video!

been through Ely twice both times coming north on 93, now thats a long straight lonely highway as well, from Panaca to Ely

About two years ago, when I was moving to Oregon from Arizona, we made a stop in Ely along US-93. I didn't get to see much of the Great Basin because we (my brother in law and I) drove straight through the night. The great basin is a gorgeous landscape.

I know you driven on the "The Loneliest Road in America" several times during your 10+ years as a Road Warrior. But this is 1st time you gave us a full look into the road from Fallon to Ely- & even from Delta, UT too if you count that video from 2 years ago. Nonetheless, we should be grateful for Kyle for continuing to do these types of videos as many others for either semi-retired from making road videos or has stop making them altogether.

I’ve driven this road many times as a State of Nevada employee. Responsible for responding to four rural counties. It is a nice drive. Just make sure your vehicle is reliable.

I was in Ely 7 wks ago (my 2nd time there). Was gunna eat at the Steakhouse Jailhouse but they were closed due to equipment failure. Major bummer because we drove all the way from Rachel. We settled on Denny's ☹️ since we were super hungry. On the bright side, we also visited the Ely charcoal Kilns/beehives. They look so cool and the history behind them are neat!!

Man, US-50 acting as the main street in both Eureka and Ely would make these towns so much prettier if it wasn't 4-lane wide.

I drove to Fort Collins from Omaha last week and where Interstate 80 meets Interstate 76 near Big Springs Nebraska, it says I-80 East Omaha and Omaha 355 miles which seemed odd because North Platte was the main designated city in that area, Sidney to the west North Platte to the east and after North Platte there's Kearney, Grand Island and Lincoln all closer than Omaha in that area.

There's also an argument for the Loneliest Road extending as far east as Fruita, Colorado. This is because even east of Delta, services are pretty sparse. I do not believe there is a decent-sized town between Salina, Utah and Fruita, a distance of over 200 miles.

Yeah. Carson City to Grand Junction is really a long haul with nothing Inbetween. All the cities and towns between Carson City and Grand Junction don’t even add up to the population of either city combined which is crazy to think about.
