I was Director of Quality for Fairchild - Republic and the A-10 was my program. Before the first plane rolled off the assembly line the Air Force tried to kill the program. General after General used to try to get the Armed Services Committee to remove funding to no avail. The AF Generals became political but they failed at every attempt thanks to the guys on the ground voicing their opinion.
