When did the cobra start being called the viper. Same thing is with the F-16. What is with the name viper suddenly being applied to aircraft that already have names?

"Viper" is a nickname for the F-16 - the official name is "Fighting Falcon" given in 1980. Pilots & crews often use the name "Viper" because of a resemblance to a viper snake as well as to the Colonial Viper starfighter from the television program Battlestar Galactica. It does no harm. The Boeing AH-64 Apache [US Army] & the Bell AH-1Z Viper [USMC] are different choppers - the Viper is faster & more manoeuvrable than the heavier Apache, but it has less firepower.

Hate to be a downer but are there any stats as to ratio of those that survive compared to those that have been downed? Also, does the "gunner" take over the controls during firing of rockets etc or how do they coordinate?
