They also get free healthcare from their Government and their living costs are far lower than the Americans. Thus the Israelis have more savings and purchasing power than Americans. But when it comes to all the other things such as cars, appliances, food, fuel, apartments we are much more expensive. If US aid to Israel was cut from the US defense budget then a peace plan for Israel-West Bank-Gaza-Golan Heights and East Jerusalem regions and areas would have a chance to move forward in a balanced way. It would also demand that any settlement ensure that the resulting states have complete, continuous and unimpeded control of their territory and not be interspersed with settlements and colonies under the jurisdiction of the partner state as is now the case. In effect, using the boundaries prior to the Six Days War as a starting point to negotiations.

I once met a nice guy from Israel who was telling me about how he gets subsidized cellular service and a few other perks. Between that and their healthcare system, I wonder if they would be able to fund any of that if they weren't receiving military aide. Sure, the money the U.S. sends only goes towards defense, but it also means they don't have to consider making cuts in things like tuition subsidization. Their industry has made some great contributions, but is that only because their citizens have gotten a financial head-start or a sign of strength through overwhelming adversity? Well, not overwhelming... overwhelming would be paying full price for cell phones, college and health insurance while paying for the whole army. Maybe they do their fair share?
