As a German, I do love our beer. But I wouldn't go as far as calling it the best in the world. It certainly is one of the best in the world, and that's a great achievement. But our friends in Belgium, the Czech Republic and Poland brew first class beer as well. I'm fine with saying: central European beer is the best in the world. Problem solved😂🤗🍻

i was able to drink beer in Thailand, Belgium,, Irland, France, Kenya, Uganda For sure when you drink all of them cold its taste good, but the German beer , speciel the local Beer from diff. areas are so good and tasty. we also have beer for every one like Warsteiner, Krombacher, ....they have a simple taste.. If you want to drink a good Beer come to Germany in some areas and taste the different. My favorite is Schneider Weise. an old tradition Family company with a really good beer.

I live in Weimar in Thuringia where they made a purity law for beer 168 years prior to the Bavarians, that was in 1348. But I was born and grew up in Arnstadt (oldest non roman town in Germany) where they made a purity law for wheat beer which is rather seen as a Bavarian speciality these days. The next purity law for beer after Weimar was made in Northern Thuringia in 1438 in Weißensee. So they just adapted to laws from rather powerful principalities to Bavaria. But the Bavarian Augustiner monastery might be the inventor of flag ship stores. They opened up a branch in Erfurt in Thuringia in 1277 and eventually added a beer shop before the 16 hundreds.

"Schon in den Jahren um 1433 und 1434 forderten Weimar und Weißensee, allein Hopfen, Malz und Wasser zu verwenden." (Thüringer Allgemeine, Apr 4, 2016) Bavarian purity law, 1516. Alright, the Thuringian purity law is older than the Bavarian one, never mind the exact year. The Bavarian date of 1516 also only is the year when it was written down and by the means of that time published. The printing press was invented in 1440 and in the first years, Gutenberg wasted his time printing bibles instead of something useful. Whatever, can we agree that Bayern and Thüringen have the best beer in the civilized world? Except for the Czech, of course. Their beer doesn't contain more alcohol than ours and yet makes you drunk faster. I'm sure there's witchcraft involved.

Its not about buying american beer in germany, its more about trying czech, polish, austrian, belgian beers (which are still much better than american ones, some might even say better than german ones.)

hi, I'm German, if you would like to try dark hefew wheat then try the Bock wheat beers from Germany. There is the Picantus (2x Bock) and the Aventinus (3x Bock). Just FYI "Bock" is twice the alcohol... have fun trying it out.

I guess German beer reflexes its culture, simple, traditional and high quality. So, no fuss, wysiwyg and it's good.

Hi Nate, got a week or two to scratch the surface of "beer" as a topic? Where shall I begin? I am German, I do drink beer, and I can say that a lot of nations have formidable beers. Let me put a few things into perspective: Craftbeers can be made even without a special permit as long as you keep the 4 ingredients. Water can have a lot of minerals in it, thus it tastes differently. Malt can be simply dried, cured (with smoke), roasted and thus caramelized. Hop can be bread i mutiple different ways. There are hybrids with lemon or orange flavours, which can diffuse into the resulting beer. And i do not wat to go into the different types of yeast. Temperature is another factor, which plays a huge role in the resulting beverage. I tried a huge variety of beers and I liked the malty IPAs and stout quite a bit. Also IPAs should not taste too bitter since they usually tend to have a higher alcohol content and thus should have had a higher malt content from the start on. The bitterness usually comes from too much hop or hop oil, which is rather unusual for an IPA. Also the craft beers are becoming more and more popular here in Germany. Why is that? Because the boring all the same taste stuff does not cut it anymore. And I prefer a single bottle craft beer, which probably costs me half the price of a whole box of that boring pilsener stuff, over anything. Even tried sparkling champaign beer from Belgium, which was friggin interesting and tasted almost like sparkling wine and also a sour beer, which is fermented under addition of air and thus creates some vinegar in addition to the alcohol and thus tastes sour. So yes, there is so much to learn about beer and so much to try and enjoy. At the end a citation of the first "beer somelier world champion" Karl Schiffner: "Each beer should have its own glass!" Let me know, when you are back in ol' Germany and we can have one or two over a nice long talk :D Cheers

For me (German, Bavarian) the more natural, the better. No additional flavours. Just to enhance the natural flavours. I´m glad that many small breweries deveolped over the last maybe 10 years. (in the 1980ies mayn small breweries quit)

Nate! If you are here in Germany, I would like to give you one Donate “Einbecker-Mai bock”. Einbeck only taught the people of Munich how to brew beer when two master brewers from Einbeck were simply poached and kidnapped. This brewery has existed since 1378. But this history is often forgotten in Bavaria. Cheers!! Greetings Jürgen

I have to admit, even though I live in Bavaria, I don't like beer... it's just mostly too bitter for me and so in the summer I only drink a "radler" (a mix of beer and lemon lemonade) - thats refreshing

You usually get a headache when beer is not processed properly. If there's something in there that doesn't belong there. It could be methylpropanol, unfermented industrial sugar, cleaning agent residues, or the equipment was not cleaned properly or unsuitable brewing water. The German expression is “Schädelbier”. There are also such varieties here, e.g. “Barre-Bräu”. But it's also a matter of habit. There are also people here who drink “Feldschlößchen” or “Oettinger” and can tolerate it. I can't tolerate tequilla. I can drink it but the next day won't be my friend. It's also bad if you sweet liqueurs like Jägermeister, Feigling or (as they're all called) as bydrink.

I guess every single Budweiser I've had has been "bad" then, because it doesn't matter if it's from a can, a glass, or straight from the tap I get a headache every time. 😀

IPA should be simple, not flavoured with weird shit. I also like APA, particularly if it is based off the Citra hop. Very good cold in summer. Favourite, Ganter Export from Freiburg. Note to self, time to tour south to the Black Forrest soon!

Oh Feli irrt lol . Dann mal Prost 🍻

Bro, that is not true about Kreuzberg Bier, I can get it at a couple of getränkemarkte here in Fulda. But as far as Bier in general goes, I have the same problem with Budweiser, headache, bloat, just not good, but I cannot drink Weizenbier either, with the exception of Schöfferhofen grapefruit.....go figure. Local Bier like from Kreuzberg, Wiesenmühle, and a few other commercial one like König and Wahrsteiner are just so much better than the competition thanks to the reinheitsgebot .....well, I guess you can say it`s one of the reasons I have lived in Fulda for 39 years. ;) If I want lighter beer I might get a corona or a Becks, but that is an exception ;)

@@NateLawsonPretty sure it has been always available here in Fulda, at least from 1993 onward (that was when I got out of the Army and moved permanently here in Fulda) and I bought a keg of Kreuzberg in January. It is more fun though to go to Kreuzberg directly, the Bier isn`t the only thing great up there, the food is great too!
