Either you will make a mistake in the field or you will do it yourself one way or another (whether it's drinking yourself to death or doing it the quick way). You learn to turn your emotions off put what you feel in a box and lock it up (where it can only break loose in the middle of the night). But the more you do it the easier it gets. Eventually you forget how to turn everything back on. I got out before I completely forgot how to turn it all back on but a lot of folks... specially career military... don't. And no one wants to think about how close they are to being the one eating the barrel of a pistol. Everybody has hear war is hell ..well the thing about hell is it's not a place for humans. The only thing that can survive there are unfeeling demons. And honestly being unfeeling is still better than being someone who learns to enjoy it.

Once upon a time as a kid, i dreamed of being in the military and breaking the "poverty" cycle as was sold to me by ROTC. As an adult and seeing the shit going on around me i want to go back and fucking hug myself for decideing family was more important and breaking the cycle via hard work instead. As things stand id be hard pressed to hate our invaders. My own countrymen want me dead, tell me that im worthless and disposable and constantly try to treat me as little more then a disposable loot box. The thing is "government funded equipment" can also include the signal repeaters and transmitters on military bases and in the field. That means even if you are using your personal phone, if you are connecting through military equipment it could be a violation. It would honestly depend on the specific policy as enforced but if i was the military that's how i would interpret it. Throw them in the brig for a bit and they will start learning.

Hell, I doubt that will even work again now, with Biden (illegally and unilaterally) forgiving Student loan debts, why join for the college when you can just go as far into debt as you want and wait for a Democrat to forgive it? Then there's the fact that with those commercials, and the top brass of the Pentagon revealing their true colors and feelings about the enlisted, there are now 4 generations of veterans telling the next generation of Midwestern and rural males (IE the people who ran the entire enlisted side for generations now) to get a trade and ignore the military. They can TRY to reintroduce the draft like they have been, but it's getting REALLY uncomfortable for women because the old 2012 case that would have forced women to register for the draft was only thrown out because "the US would never engage in another draft for the foreseeable future". Well guess what's back on the menu, and now SCOTUS's docket, women being forced to register for the draft, and thanks to the 19th being a constitutional ammendment that states there shall be no discrimination on the basis of sex, the ladies would lose the arguement against them being required to register. That would mean by extension all of the politicians that might even consider war would be outed by angry female voters. Face it, the army will not recover for generations, and only the Marines are not having trouble in, or filling, the ranks.

im out of shape but i volunteered for naval service and got rejected from ALL branches because im autistic on the practice ASVAB test i scored a 67 which is apparently one of the highest in my area (Louisiana average is 34 apparently) i dont freak out to loud noises and i love guns so i figured maybe i could be an armorer and learn to weld in the service, even if i didnt have that im 6'2 and weigh 270, i knew boot would be hell for me but i figured i could try it... best birthday present ever i cant even get drafted if it comes to it LOL

That's insane. in my time 10-15yrs ago less than a 50 on the ASVAB was grounds for disqualification. Even then people in my squadron talked about how they weren't supposed to accept anyone on their 1st enlistment, only people on their 2nd with at least 4yrs experience at another squadron, but that standard got dropped. How incompetent does the military need to get before the gov't starts thinking, "ya know, if another country declares war we'll lose and I wont be in power anymore". It defies even cold self-interest to let this happen.

@@rod.h8064 Tiger was quite good tank for it's time, requiring multiple Shermans or T-34s to deal with due to it's really powerful and accurate gun. It's downfall was maintenance, but it's not something you usually think about, when it comes to designing combat vehicles.

Honestly, that's probably a "good thing". Droids don't get PTSD from watching their buddy catch a rocket. Drones don't come home with crippling back pain from mortar shrapnel. My company had the highest suicide rate on the base. We were treated like shit by company, battalion, and brigade level leadership. It gets hot in the dessert, god forbid you need water in 100+ degree weather in the middle of summer.

I don't really believe there's any atrocity a soldier would refuse to commit. So having them be less in number and less competent may be a good thing. The founding fathers didn't think the US should have a standing army, knowing it would turn against its own people when ordered.

but a standing army is also a necessiti in any country, least your neighbour who has one will plant their flag on your turf sooner or later. That and the second amendment was the measure taken to ensure the government (and by extention, the army) dont have a monopoly on armed force.

No military civilians are making $200k per year unless maybe they are in senior executive service. The pay discrepancy between officers and civilians is actually not that sharp anymore. Also, a friend of mine is a trainer for the Air Force, and I hear lots of stories about people that can't pass PT tests where the Air Force actually has the easiest standards. They've had to let up on the fitness standards recently to improve retention. Then when people get put on performance reviews because they can't pass, If they don't want to do what the trainer tells them, they'll literally say " I opt out" instead of trying to let the trainer get them in shape.
