People, the Infantry 's job is to take enemy ground by killing the enemy by any means. Bullets, grenades, bayonets and even buttstrokes to the head. Just Kill them. That is the Infantryman's job; of course that is glossed over by the recruiter and the websites, but that is what you are taught and that is what you learn as an Infantryman. Plain and simple. You will learn that during Infantry basic and advanced training. You will be taught to be an animal. My first sergeant used to say "treat them like dogs and feed them 3 times a day". That is how you develop a killer element in the infantry which the Army does VERY WELL. I spent 6 years in the Airborne Infantry and 2 combat tours. So glad for the training, it made me and the rest of us awesome. In your home Infantry assignment you will be trained to be mean, ugly and want to lash out towards the enemy. That is the idea. It is intense physical work, the life of the infantry. You will be amazed at what you can do.

We have as Infantrymen been striving since GWOT to almost be special operations... This kid doesn't realize that the infantry has been training like that for over 20 years and GWOT, specifically Iraq put a lot of that to the test... But I can tell he is proud and motivated and that is very good to see... But we grunts have always trained like that...

Infantry is not the bottom of the Army. Infantry is the Army's favorite child. Even your dress uniform is different from the rest. EDIT: I forgot to mention the job code for infantry. It starts with the number "one" followed by another "one". ie..11A - Infantry officer, 11B - Infantryman. Every other job designation (MOS) follows behind it. There is nothing in front of it.

Infantry Basic, probably seemed the hardest until after you been at your unit and wished to do it again for fun. Heck even in Basic we still loved it. Proud of the young guy and hope he keeps up this level of motivation. That being said, you can tell its still his early into his new unit and hes still excited about graduating training. In time new accomplishments will shadow these ones. If youre here for advice about basic training, take all of this with a grain of salt. The underlying message is true, but this is obviously new guy hyping up the experience. Dont be scared by what hes saying, but be serious about understanding what the job is and why you want to do it. Rock on 🤙

Fort Benning was super easy compared to training at your actual unit. joined the Army in 2008. was assigned to 3rd Brigade Combat Team 101st Airborne after graduating OSUT. when I got to my unit C Co 2-187th Infantry they were preparing for JRTC down in Fort Polk Louisiana. we spent over a month in that swampy shithole. right after JRTC we prepped all our gear and sent them down range to Afghanistan. 3 months after getting out of basic training I was going into combat, it was the most surreal feeling. combat deployments are the best part about the infantry. everything is so relaxed unlike being back in garrison. at our combat outpost most guys just walked around in their boxers and flip flops.

Came across this vid just because I was randomly reminiscing the good old days. I joined in 02 as an 11B… Did my basic at Benning. Was immediately deployed to OIF by the Feb 04… First I want to commend the young soldier for enlisting during a time where pride for our country seems to be at an all time low. Yes he did embellish some things during basic but he also said some things that are completely accurate about the infantry. This world is lacking good strong young men that are will willing to fight tooth and nail for there loved ones and their country. God bless all that have and will serve.

agreed. I was also infantry. longest ruck i did was 25 miles. that was fairly brutal with a live fire around the halfway point. this was at a very high speed unit in south korea. most of the rucks were maybe around 10 miles. thats just a guess. sometimes we would do timed ruck that would require 12 miles in under 3 hrs. that was basically a jog. this was to train for eib testing or air assault school. we did run almost everyday for PT and maybe an average distance was 5 miles.

I went through OSUT late 2020. The training at the time was real. Our first day of class they told us take everything you think the infantry is and throw it out the window. The minimum for Ranger Battalion is our standard infantry wide. The training was easy but we can see it take its tole on our body's. The regular weight guys became under weight and the buff guys became skinny. We also had prior service who treated no different from us. We where being experimented on with out even knowing. We did like the majority aspect of it. In that time the Army was making extremely lethal killing machines and raising the bar adn changing the traditional thinking. This was COVID season so i did get it twice and missed training. So i did do OSUT twice back to back. I did notice the change when the new administration came and undid everything it was heart breaking. For me the infantry life was natural and allowed me to be me 100% especially in the field. Being a 240 gunner was the life . TO make short story shorts i became very suicidal not due to the life style but due to toxic, dangerous leadership and extremely por, dirty living conditions. I didnt know the mental damage was permanent and didnt know the extent of th physical damage. I miss the infantry life but the its literally self destructive, especially with the leadership the plauges the Army. Its not sustainable but i would do it again i loved it and was worth it.
