There are only 2 infantry MOSs for enlisted men and women. 11B and 11C. If you end up in an airborne unit, you will be required to go to airborne school. There are very few airborne units, so the likelihood of getting sent to one for your first enlistment isn't likely. Plenty of infantrymen aren't airborne. But if you're scared of where the army can send you as an INFANTRYMAN I don't think infantry is right for you man...
@wyattp84794 жыл бұрын
Also there's no different MOS for an airborne infantryman. The army just sends you where they send you. I guess you could actively avoid going to airborne school while you're in, but you'll get shit for it I'd think

Infantry OSUT in 1986 from Aug- Nov. I left Honolulu Hawaii from MEPS Aug 4th to Ft. Benning arriving to Atlanta and in into Ft. Benning by the 5th in the afternoon. Processed through for a week and got picked up for A-10-2 for Harmony Church on Aug 11 to start training. My Basic Training picture was taken on Aug 12th. My OSUT ended at 7th Nov. So it was over 4 months long. Not counting Airborne School for 3 weeks and a one Zero Week before starting which was cleaning, police call and cleaning and guard details. Once this was almost over I think I graduated Airborne School on the 11th of Dec from the Thanksgiving holiday that entailed. Back then OSUT was short but it did have a very high quality fighting force of the 1980s. Soldiers back then were better educated and put in by the ASVAB system. It wasn't perfect though. Even the smartest soldiers couldn't cope with the military. Even the dumbest soldiers were able to get into the Army by having their recruiters pass them by fixing their scores on the ASVAB to the minimum of 31 just to get in. Despite that, the 1980s Army developed true leaders during Grenada, Panama, Desert Storm till present the professional officers and NCOs. As it was in my day. Today's soldiers coming in presently will become the futures leaders.
@Mocha69A4 жыл бұрын
I went to Fort Benning OSUT in may of 1990. Back then I was going into a mech infantry unit. We where sub labeled 11Mikes so in addition to the regular infantry training we got to go to additional week of familiarization with Bradley fighting vehicles few years later I'm dont remember 11m designation was abolished and mechanized infantry are simply identified as 11Bravos which we where anyway just some went to airborne units some went to armored units. Those trainers where not our drill seargent who did change because of the coming war in iraq some original drills got reassigned because of the developing war in iraq at that time . One of my incoming drills was a former green beret coming from the reserves because of that. I graduated and was assigned overseas to the 2nd armored division ( forward) in garlstedt germany.

I was 6 years infantry, army. Basically, you just do a lot of things you dont want to do, all the time, every single day. And Sometimes, you do it for weeks at a time. When it's hot, you're hot. If it's raining, you're training. When its cold you're cold. When the day feels long, it's because it was. And to top it all off you learn zero life skills, except to be very disciplined. Overall, The entire experience was 5/10. Not great, but not bad. Im always tempted to say that it was a waste of time, though. The only thing I got out of being 11b was a v.a. rating for ptsd and depression, and some war stories about how I almost got blown up on multiple occasions. I would never reinlist into the infantry. There are hundreds of other jobs that actually help you in your civilian life. The infantry doesnt do shit for you, other than allow you to have really good stories. Stories dont pay the billls though.

Hello, my name is Jada and i'm 11 years old. I'm looking to join the Army in the future. I just want to ask you for any advice for tips to help me prepare for the military. Thank you so much and I hope your quarantine will be better soon. 😀😀🙏. P.S I would want my MOS to be 11A
@wyattp84794 жыл бұрын
Sup. I was in the same boat as you for quite some time as a kid. I'm joining the infantry soon ^^. I'll tell you what everyone has told me when I was your age and up until I turned 18. Be prepared though, this is gonna be a long comment. Join a sport of some kind. Water polo, wrestling, track, any team sport that's rough on the body. I personally recommend wrestling, lacrosse, or water polo because they're all what are called "hybrid sports." It means they require strength and endurance in every part of your body. Your heart, lungs, lower and upper body, everything needs to be strong in those sports. And that'll carry over if and when you decide to join the army. It'll also prepare you for team building exercises, you'll understand how to push past physical pain (that makes you tougher), and it'll get you fit enough to join when the time comes. Focus on school (especially when you get to high school). You can't be an 11A (infantry officer) without a college degree, so you're going to want to get good grades. And if you end up deciding college isn't right for you, you'll still want to pay attention in school so you can get a good grade on the ASVAB (the test you need to take to join the army). Just about everything you learn in high school will help you pass the test. Know that if you end up not wanting to go to college and just want to enlist, that's fine. I wanted to be an officer as a kid, but as I grew up I decided it wasn't the right path for me, so I'm enlisting as an 11B (enlisted infantryman) instead. And it's totally fine if you end up doing the same. Joining a cadet program also might be a benefit to you. You're young, so the only programs that will take you at this age are the United States Naval League Cadet Corps and the Young Marines. I personally recommend the United States Naval League Cadet Corps because they're sponsored by the Marine Corps, Navy, and Coast Guard. As you get older in that program, you can even get training in infantry-style things. I went to a training called Master-at-Arms myself, and they taught me the basics of marksmanship, battle drill, and a bunch of other very neat stuff like takedowns and gun takeaways. There are also other trainings taught by SEALs, Marine Reconnaissance, and Army infantry officers for older cadets. Being a cadet is a great way to see if you're going to like the military environment and if you can handle it. Also know that it's okay if you change your mind. You may want to be an 11A or 11B from now until you turn 16, but then you might learn you like medicine and actually want to be a 68W (combat medic). Or you might learn that you really love chemistry so you decide to be a 74D (Chemical, Biological, Radioactive, and Nuclear Material Specialist). Most of all though, be a kid. It's great that you have a goal for what you want to do, but make sure you have fun during your childhood. They can be some of the best years of your life and you'll look back on them fondly if you make good memories. Good luck to you and I hope to see you out there in 7 years if I'm still there ^^.

I have a question for David, I was just wondering if he got to choose to be a SAW gunner or if roles are just assigned randomly.
@TheBenAllen.4 жыл бұрын
He didn’t get to choose

I was the smallest dude when I hit my unit in ‘08 so it was funny to give me a SAW, I didn’t mind, rucked that bitch for the better part of 6 years. If you want to be a gunner it can happen from my experience.

I’ve never understood why if you were gonna go infantry, why not just go 18x?
@johndoe27993 жыл бұрын
I dont understand the difference in none of this. Been watching videos. But still what the hell is 11x, etc. I know 11b is infantrymen(I think). And what is 18x. And I see ppl talking about option 40 contract and shit like that. What does it all mean?

@@johndoe2799 if you go infantry, you're under the 11x MOS until you are classified as either 11b or 11c at Basic.
