Yeah, Fort Bragg is how it will ALWAYS be to me. That Fort Liberty crap is a bunch of nonsense. Fort Bragg is the home to the Green Beret's. Name it Fort Benavidez.

I have a hard time supporting it being called Bragg. The running joke is he killed more of the Army of Tennessee than the Union. He had a bad habit of having whomever was the target of his wraith shot. I consider that a major character flaw. Fort Benavidez I can support.

Rename them with heroes names, or new buildings with heroes names. Could you imagine if they had come out with a female espionage training facility named after Virginia Hall? Or things of the nature? Tanker training school named after Lafayette "Wardaddy"? The list goes on

I was hired to a career intern program with the Defense Logistucs Agency where most of us moved to Philadelphia from all over the country. When we accepted the job, we signed contracts that specified the timing and levels of advancement over the next 5 years. When we all arived for our first day of training, we were handed new contracts that had the promotions crossed out and we were told to sign them. We had just moved across country and they had no intention of guaranteeing the promotions we were promised. Most had no choice but to sign. The moral of the story is, the government does whatever the hell it wants and having all the copies and documentation in the world doesn't help.

For reference MAC-V SOG was disbanded in 1972 and delta force was established in 1977. However the effects that MACVSOG made were used in Deltas SOG's. They definitely took a bunch of chapters out of their book and are still used to this day by Delta *(allegedly)* lol

I did everything from surfing in Central America to skiing in the Alps. Zero combat zones. I know that I was lucky...

You don't know who Gen. Westmoreland is? He's the Vietnam commander!! I hate to say this, but Nick is wrong about Roy's wife's name. It is pronounced Lay-la. Lalah was my mother's name.
@thatpatrickguy34462 ай бұрын
Great reaction as usual! And boy did Benevidez do his hero Audie proud! Westmoreland was a real general. Too many Pentagon generals these days are theoretical and/or bureaucratic generals. They don't know shit about the actual military anymore, all they know is that squirrels store nuts in their skulls and other bureaucrats reward them for that. "Oh, Mark Millie? Yeah, he was instrumental in solving the Great Pen Shortage of '07! He found a supplier who would supply us with high quality pens for a cost of only $47.13 EACH! That was a savings of three whole cents based on the other supplier that will save the U.S. military BILLIONS of dollars over the next three thousand years!" I descend into repeated swearing and insults in my thoughts at this point, so I'll spare you that. I'll just repeat my universal truth: Bureaucracy is the enemy of humanity. And that effing telegram sent to his wife. "The Secretary of the Army has asked me to inform you that your husband, Staff Sergeant Roy P Benevidez, was slightly wounded in Vietnam on May 2, 1968 as a result of hostile action... Since he is not, repeat, not seriously wounded no further reports will be furnished." To quote the vid meme, "WHAT! WHAT THE FU.." If that was "slightly wounded" I don't want to know what seriously wounded would look like. And we all know that the cutting of earned military disability benefits was a brilliant plan dreamed up by some bureaucratic soldier in name only at the Pentagon who thought if he saved a whole bunch of money he'd be an even bigger hero than the guy who solved the Great Naval Toilet Crisis of '77 and found a toilet seat supplier who could supply toilet seats to the Navy for only $837.66 EACH and who got himself promoted to a one star Rear Admiral (lower half), a very fitting rank for the man who solved the toilet crisis. Unfortunately for the wannabe bureaucratic general, he was up against a MoH recipient whose motto was "When you see someone who needs help, help them." and who threatened to expose this jackwagon and his bureaucracy to the light of day, leaving them all to scuttle to the shadows like the cockroaches that they are. In case I've understated it here, I hate bureaucratic nincompoopery. I love when Nic can insert the heroes themselves speaking at the end of his videos. God love the legends who have served, and that's all of them, and you too brother!

My dad was Army infantry (11B which he called 11 Body bag or 11 Bullet stopper) in Vietnam. He talked about Roy from some stories that he heard while serving. The stories never mentioned a name but talked about a SF soldier and some of it sounded like it could have been about this event... maybe. Word of mouth and gossip isn't always the most reliable 🙄. Some of the stuff was over the top but I'm not so sure that everything was over the top after hearing this from TFE.

I walked into my recruiters office and said "You don't have to convince me, I've already decided that I'm going to join." I was 20, in college and realized I was wasting my time there. " I want to be an MP- I have 2 friends that already are MP's, One was in Germany on an Nike site, and the other was in Korea with the 2nd Inf Div. so I know the job. I know it's not playing cop" My recruiter, SFC Guidice, this was in 1980, and I still remember his name, said "Well OK then, we'll make that happen" and he did. I ended up at Ft Hood with the 545th MP Co. 1st Cav. If you ain't Cav? You ain't shit.
