Honest and frank visa officer. Smart fellow. He's right about Harvard Yale Princeton -- the admissions process is deliberately opaque. Lots of legacy students. And money talks. I travelled like a good disciplined tourist and came back to India within barely 10 days several times after that. I just never understood what the reasons for the first 2 rejections were.

Most importantly, your social media status. They will look at every online record of yours. This was something that was told to me by a professor in India, 10 years ago when I was applying for a visa after I got selected in a university abroad (not US). Given the kind of access they have now and also given the fact that American authorities spies on their own citizens, I can only wonder about the minute details they can know about you. Someone with zero social media record would theoretically have a better chance, after taking into account the other factors.

How do we know that the state department isn’t at all serious about the intent? Because otherwise they could’ve simply made the visa non-convertible to anything else. Why does the state department has to perform this charade? Because if they change the visa that couldn’t be converted, no one will go to the US to study. And that’s a billion dollar industry. So, the state department has to deceive and the applicants have to lie. If the intent mattered, they could’ve decided to design the visa that way. That would have rendered the intent a moot point So, liars both The interview and interviewee
