The United States will award Intel with $8.5 billion in grants and up to $11 billion in loans to help fund an expansion of its semiconductor factories. Bloomberg Intelligence senior technology analyst Mandeep Singh breaks down the historic funding package and explains why the White House may look to blacklist a number of Chinese semiconductor firms linked to tech manufacturer Huawei. Mandeep speaks with Paul Sweeney and Jennifer Ryan on Bloomberg Radio.

Why? because they're subsidizing intel? China heavily subsidize their EV industry and now Chinese EV dominates the global EV Market

@@Nabrolo the US government heavily subsidized the commercial aviation industry in the earlier days of its growth. The core issue here is not the free market or WTO rules, it's the encroachment of a third world nation into a certain sacred sector of industries monopolised by the neo-colonialists(high tech, high margin). Ask the Japanese what happened to their semiconductor industry.

@3:50 - he explains why sanctions are very "important" and it has nothing to do with security (well, maybe economic and financial "security" but not about the backdoors, spying, etc we were led to believe).

In the past, China used to import chips worth $300 billion annually. However, due to pressure from the US, they are now compelled to establish a self-reliant semiconductor supply chain devoid of any Western components. Beijing simply needs to adhere to the entities designated by Washington in order to chart their roadmap.

@@CO8848_2 The US CHIPS Act provides a one-time subsidy of $280 billion. These subsidies are crucial for US advanced chip manufacturers, as they heavily rely on the hundreds of billions of dollars in orders from China to sustain their businesses. However, once China overcomes its technological hurdles, these manufacturers will not only lose access to the lucrative Chinese market, but they will also face a formidable new competitor. This scenario mirrors the dynamics seen in the smartphone and EV sectors, where copying and competition have been prevalent. We appreciate President Biden's decision to impose further sanctions on China, but only time will tell how this situation unfolds and how many US and its ally companies will be impacted by the entity list.

Every time, we the USA, use sanctions we increase the likelihood that economies around the world will look to a currency that isn’t the U.S. dollar to conduct commerce. Sanctions are an economic tool that if overused will encourage dedollarization of the global economy.

Will the subsidies help Intel catch up to TSMC? Mandeep said it, the capex of TSMC is > 40B. The 8B in grants is great but put it into perspective. In order for this US govt investment to pay off. Intel needs to technologically catch up to TSMC. Right now Intel is delivering 7nm and Huawei the most sanctioned company in China is delivering 7nm. Lets say Intel catches up in technology. Can Intel then produce in quantity at a competitive price. TSMC said their US factory has 30% higher costs than Taiwan fabs. When a customer is buying a few billion of product, 30% is a big deal. Right now there's a huge AI build out. And Nvidia is getting the lion's share. But next year companies will be "using" their AI machines not building more. If the AI hardware market plataeus, Intel is stuck with a huge investment with not enough customers.

It does not need a genius to assess the facts as to which is a more important market. US' middle income group is diminishing whereas CN' is rising super fast. CN is moving into higher value production. US' politicians are in the back-pockets of its oligarchs who fund & control them. CN's population is nearly 4x that of US. US may make its own CHIPs but its own market is only small. US' businessmen are not as patriotic as CN's & as CN's CHIPs consumers know not to just rely on US'. Very soon, US' production will cease as not competitive, unprofitable. Any anti-CN sentiments are treated as anti-Chinese by most Chinese worldwide, Chinese is the largest race worldwide. WAKE UP middle income Americans, DUMP these current US' brainless politicians, run with Independents, ensure they use think-tanks who are true patriots to Americans & not just the oligarchs, to truly MAGA.
