I remember in 1979 when I was in high school, writing editorials highly favorable for the B-1 against so many liberal opponents who claimed it was too expensive and would be obsolete before deployment. The B1-B has proven itself extremely effective, versatile, flexible in many roles that ICBMs are not. Their expense has returned well over initial investment by the many upgrades and improvements that enabled them to perform missions not even imagined during its development stage and is still an incredibly capable aircraft with unique operational features not found on other platforms. So successful was this design concept and versatility that the Soviet Union created a very similar bomber (the White Swan) that looks almost identical. (Their Buran space shuttle and the Tupelov SST followed the same copycat strategy, a testament to the superior design, just poorly executed). The B1-B still has possible advanced capabilities not yet developed, but can still be accommodated by its versatile airframe. I saw one fly over at low altitude and it knocked me down on the ground. Hope it stays in service another couple of decades!

@stevoplex thank you for sharing this. We have the same respect for this aircraft platform. It projects the US on a global scale without even needing other support craft. It truly is a beautiful project and should be held as the gold standard.

Seems to me that the decision to implement the B-1 was questionable, and very likely wrong at the time. BUT -- the development of LRASM and other modern missiles have given B-1 an effective role in our military. So, it was a good purchase in the end.

DUDE, JUST REALLY LOOK AT THIS PLANE, IT IS FIERCE, SLEEK AND PACKS A MEAN PUNCH OR UPPERCUT. It's a big powerhouse in the skies! Grandpa designed and built this plane to take on the worst and still conquer. THIS PLANE IS STILL RELEVANT TO NATIONAL SECURITY and will fill important roles in WWIII possible scenarios. It will DEFINITELY help in the hostilities in the Pacific. It's still a very useful tool in the U.S. arsenal, in my opinion. Great video 📸. Thanks!

Keep the BONE. Up grade the engines to the engines used in the F-35, and continue développement of long rangé tactical weapons for the BONE's use. The new engines would give the BONE Mach 3 to 4 capability, enabilling the BONE to destroy anything in the air, on land, and the sea. 200 BONES would secure our air space for the next 50+ years. It would be more cost effective than the B-21 Raider and more fearsome to our enemies. Speed is still the most important feature that Pilotes endear in à combat aircraft.

Keep everything quiet, as long as you don’t care how your tax dollars are being spent. How do you know they’re not just pocketing number. I believe they have an obligation to give some broad idea of how and why money is being spent. Whether it is discussed openly you can be sure our national adversaries know more than the average taxpayer.

36 nuclear cruise missiles 30 kt apiece during her SAC days. 36 cities, nuked. Scared the hell out of the Russians. The only survivable bomber due to it's terrain following radar and speed. That plane ain't going nowhere. I see it in use for the foreseeable future. Stealth bombers have a great survivability but if a fighter sees it and gives it the gun. It's done. Speed, visibility, manuvarablilty, and counter threat avionics equals survivability

Just like the F15EX Eagle II, there will always be a place for a Big Fat Munitions Truck to haul massive amounts of ordinance. Doing it Supersonically much like they recently did to Iran&co AND fly back home is just such a wonderfully useful thing that never goes out of style. The C17 is great and pushing big crates of missiles out the back is cool, but to get there supersonic and loiter can't be replaced. Besides the transport planes are already stretched thin just hauling logistics around so...let the bone do what it's made for and "c" planes do what they're to do... The stealthy bombers have their place to get in and out of contested air space but, just like having the F-15EX shoot long-range stand-off missiles/bomb truck the B-1 Lancer is irreplaceable for all those bunker busters. There's a need for a bigger/longer flight range than a F -15EX can/should do. I mean how much extra room is there in a F15 for the crew to get up and move around for those 17 hr flights? just can't safely hang about but when you need the extra big bunker busters OR a massive drop of attack drones/long range hypersonic missiles from high alttitude, you need a bone not a cargo limited stealth plane. I say if they can keep the buff around for so long running those stinky engines forever then you dang well will find good use for the fundamentally sound supersonic mega truck!

It’s all about deterrence right now. They’re not telling them everything at all. But what they are telling their adversaries is don’t fuck with us. We have the good stuff. We really don’t want a war with the Chinese. Or the Russians for that matter. Better to show off a few toys than use them for real.

I agree you Americans have better throw away tech then most nation can ever field think about it. F23 black widow superior to raptor . Rh-66 Comanche stealth recon helicopter that Apache has been perfered. Chinese j10 American Israeli design lavi jet. Your govt seemed to announce tech just to the dread in the enemies heads.
