One tip for running I got from my fellow Marine is to use more of the front of your feet instead of rocking them throughout the run. As in don't land on your heals and then rock off, since the landing wastes the momentum and energy from the previous stride. Going down and up hill, land with as much contact as possible using the front of your feet. Downhill, larger strides; uphill, smaller strides.
@Drewski7772 жыл бұрын
This is very useful, thank you!
@ZacharySmith89 Жыл бұрын
> Downhill, larger strides I think the world-renowned running coach Jack Daniels warned against larger strides going downhill. The larger your stride, the more force your joints and hamstrings have to absorb. Because of this, not over-striding is especially important going downhill, when you're putting the most force on your joints and hamstrings.

I'd love to know how?! Any tips? Honestly the 3 mile run seems insane to me and what I worry most about. I can do 1 mile in 10 so it's insane thinking about 3
@ReapWhatYaSow2 жыл бұрын
@@OmariFaith Growing up, I was never one for long distance running. I was a football lineman, baseball player, and field portion of track and field. I could do decent short distance (100 & 200 meter), but long distance was low and slow. The key is endurance. You have to be able to set a pace and keep that pace over 3 miles. Only idiots take off fast from the beginning. That's okay, let them. You will lap the majority of them by the 1½ mile mark. Save the sprint for the end. If you kept a great pace the whole time, in the last 100 meters you don't really have to any extra energy to give to sprint because you gave it all during the 3 miles. I grew to like running because I was 6'4", 250 lbs., and I liked it because I was not built for it, but got good at it. Start slow, try to walk on a treadmill for 45 minutes straight. Then continue to do it everyday. this everyday and eventually you will be able to increase your speed. I was able to loose 80 pounds and get physically fit enough to go to bootcamp in 5 months. Motivation and Dedication. OORAH YAT-YAS
@OmariFaith2 жыл бұрын
@@ReapWhatYaSow I fucking appreciated this man thank you! Im going to start heading to the field near me and run from endzone to endzone to build endurance. I definitely need to listen to what you said and focus on what pace to maintain the entire run, I feel that really may be key.
@ReapWhatYaSow2 жыл бұрын
@@OmariFaith I never considered setting a pace to last the length of the run. You just have to find your stride and the more you do it, the faster you will go. Now, I never got any ridiculous pre-18 minute times like some of these guys, but they weren't 6'4", 200+ pounds, with 23" biceps either. They were usually short to average height, skinny, surfer, swimmer, cross country runners. My best 3 mile time was 20:38. My average was usually between 21-22 minutes and I was pretty proud of that.

When I was in , a good way to get faster running time was a drill called 30/60's . With this drill , you sprint for 30 secs. And run for 60 secs. This will help with controlling your breathing while maintaining a pace. I also would inhale / exhale breathing like a cadence (breath in through the and out the mouth ) try to focus on exhale when the left hits the deck. The corps. Was way different when I was in (90's. East Coast Devil Dog). Just a tip that worked for me when I was stationed in DC. Semper Fi!!

You could literally boost half my alma mater in your focus/insensitive skill set with your tips, appearance and motivation. Of my past, the in sheep troops I noticed were also the ones that needed to be, such as the majority police, so/security forces guys, they were always hitting the iron, running, boxing or wrestling and either kickboxing or judo. They’re now infused with decent white belt bjj which is great if you can safely take a combative to the ground where his backup is not existent, otherwise it quickly becomes plan c,d,e,f etc. The other groups known to be fit troops are our pj/fac/cc’s and fast mover jockeys (f-16;15;35;22; and A-10 drivers as many were college or university footballers and wrestlers. Punching out in bad lands until rescue, brains, brawn and motivation work with remaining calm and instincts which have saved many lives of all mentioned. Great video once again! Hope our current and new troops disregard this crt hate bullshit and focus on war fighting and survival training. China is not going away and a military non supporter is now the lead as he was lower half of the 8year anti military of 2009-2017 where our military were gutted to 1/3 its war fighting efficiency and the current cic was the vp under #44. Even if you can't get a perfect 300 on your score, there's still getting close if you can score a first class PFT, which is the top grouping of points. I never failed to get a First Class PFT, largely since I could always do 20 pullups. I would muscle through the first 10 and then just let myself drop after the pullup and the snap at the bottom, using my arms like rubber bands, and that would jerk me half way back up and provide momentum to make it back to the top. Of course my arms would be bent at a 30 degree angle for the next 3 days because i wouldn't be able to straighten them out after snapping them like that. The best key to running is to take the longest step possible, even learn to swing your hips to increase your stride, and also control your breathing to slow and deep. I only once ever finished the 3 miles in under 18 minutes, but I always came within a minute or 2 of that. The funniest thing about that was that I would always run 5 miles every other day to stay in shape, and would usually do that in right around 40 minutes. Soon after I was discharged, my time for that 5 mile run suddenly dropped to 30 minutes every time, which would have easily have gotten me 3 miles in 18 minutes while I was still enlisted lol
@shawnkippenhan46572 жыл бұрын
p.s. while I was in boot camp, we ran in BOOTS
@ZacharySmith89 Жыл бұрын
Careful: If "the longest step possible" leads to overstriding (feet landing too far in front of you), then it becomes inefficient as your body is automatically braking with each step. Not only will this slow you down, but it will place unnecessary stress on your joints and hamstrings. There's lots of stuff on the internet about overstriding. Personally, what I've found most helpful is Jack Daniels's tip to aim for ~180 steps per minute when not sprinting. Having said that, personally I tend to take steps that are too small when running 3 miles as fast as I can. When I correct by taking longer steps (by slowing my cadence down to ~180 steps per minute), I go faster with less effort.

We had a little chubby guy in boot camp in 1976 who could run 3 miles in 15 minutes, it was freaky. Back then we had to do situps after the pullups and before the run. I held a guys legs for him one time (because that's what we would do back then) who did 110 situps in 2 minutes. Best I ever saw
@msfkmsfk2 жыл бұрын
The tip he had at 3:15 isn't bad either. Back when I was training at Lifetime gym I was able to crank out a maximum of 11 pull ups using shoulder width pullups so its not bad advice. However, on Jeff Nippard's channel he recommends 1.5 times should width pullups, and when I tried that I felt stronger because the lats are a much stronger muscle than the biceps. With that being said, while I felt stronger I still wasn't able to go past 11 pull ups and I think it was because my core was weak and because I was overweight. All in all, I think the best way to master pullup hand placement is to focus on one version either 1.5 times shoulder width or shoulder width until you can hit a minimum of 10 in one set. Then after that, focus on the other version until you can hit a minimum of 10 on that. After that then move on to weighted pullups with the version you most prefer.

I ran the mile in 5:24 in 7th grade and a 40 minute 10k (which is like 6:30 pace for 6 miles) in 8th grade. but I still don't know if I could've ever hit 3 miles that fast. A 4:20 plank is a joke in comparison. I could hop up and do that with zero training other than will power.
