Great informational video! We’re the 42 caps the same throughout while they made them? I have a 1943 canteen with a cap dated 1953. Original must have got damaged or lost.

I’m not for sure if the caps all stay the same throughout production. It probably got lost at some point. Thanks for watching

4:02 Is the metal lid or cap you are talking about similar to the metal caps of the older M1910 canteens that are dated 1918? I have an M1942 stainless canteen that has a metal cap very similar to the older M1910 but the chain is missing, so I was just wondering if my metal cap is just a replacement or if it is the original.

Yes, it could be the original. Thank you for watching

Why did they use a different metal for the canteen cup handles? I often see good canteen cups with very rusty or broken handles.

@@WebGearReview I have a follow up question. Is W.C.W a world war 2 canteen cups manufacturer? I have a canteen cup marked US W.C.W. with that rusty, flat handle, but it has no date markings.

I’m not sure about all the different manufactures of canteen cups during World War II but there were many chances are it is authentic.

@@nelsonormsby2739 Thanks for the info. Here in the Philippines it's hard to find a US made canteen cups, and if we did we automatically assume it's world war 2 era because of the US assistance. The canteen cups were also copied here for the Philippine army, they look identical but with different markings. Some of the canteen cups had their marking on the canteen handle, but since the handles rust away sometimes, the markings are also gone.

It's me again. I'm curious if it is true that canteens from M1910 to M1942 were soldered or welded with lead or contains lead?

I'm wondering if it's my imagination or not but it seems to me that the inside curve on the canteen is shallower than the modern plastic issue and the Chinese stainless replicas ?
