US Military MC-1 Parachute Knife

The MC-1 knife has been issued to parachutists, paratroopers and air crews in the US Military since right after WW2. The MC-1 is an improved version of the WW2-issued M2 knife. They are automatic-opening knives and have long been a controlled item in the US Military.

I have one of these that I also bought in the 90's, from a knife stand in the mall for less than 20 bucks. The one I have they did the nail nick incorrectly on the hook, so you have to open the big blade to lift up the hook. It looks like the Logan knife was worse made than Camillus or the other companies. Thanks for the video, I was looking for some info on this knife.

I had one of these when I was stationed in Thailand 1973-75. It wasn't issued to me... A girlfriend gave it to me. I left it behind when I returned to the States, thinking it may be discovered and cause me grief. The fit and finish wasn't great, but form follows function, and it certainly functioned well. I wish I had it today, but I'm not spending that kind of money for a replacement one.

Bail should be at the end of the handle not the top. 🙄

I have one of these tucked away somewhere that’s in a bit better working condition than yours. The blade profile is different and was made by, I believe, Camillas Cutlery. My current EDC is the Benchmade 9170SBK Triage (auto opener). Both the main blade and the seatbelt/shroud cutter are auto opening but it may also be purchased as a manual only model.

I think the Camillus MC-1 is probably the best of the bunch. I agree the Benchmade autos are awesome but they are also too expensive, in my opinion.

I agree with ya 100%, I also have one of those and apparently their all the same, loose blades and poor opening. In my opinion they should have made the shroud cutter the automatic blade

I really wish they were better knives, it seems that it should not be too difficult to manufacture.

Worn spring. They do work when it's not worn out.

It was like this out of the box so I guess Uncle Sam bought a dud. "Military Grade" equipment, LOL.

@@FreeAmericaChannel even if it wasn't used, they wear down in storage if in position. You're supposed to leave it in the OPEN position to save the spring. When properly open, there shouldn't be any wiggle either

@@pabloplaysguitar That would have been good for the Army to know before they stored them closed, LOL. No doubt this knife was in storage, closed, for at least twenty years before it was issued.

@@FreeAmericaChannelhaha that explains it 😂 fwiw knowing the army even if they did know it was supposed to be in the OPEN position, they would've left them CLOSED either way. Still, wonderful knife! A new spring will make it good as new
