My US Navy amphibious ready group is coming along, just awaiting the completion of the USS Wasp LHD-1

My dad served on the USS Peleilu LHA-5 Tarawa Class as a Service Warfare Officer. About a year ago he ordered an old dragon 1/700 kit of the ship (both now retired) and it’s sat in its box for the time being. I got to get a little better at modeling before I tackle such a ship especially since the kit is somewhat rare. Awesome video and models!

Excellent work, being retired US Navy and being on Amphibious vessel most of my career, a normal US ARG would consist of 1 LHD, 1 LPD, and 1 LSD.

Understood. I'll keep an eye out for the resin Harpers Ferry kit, far far to expensive for me currently

This is true for an ARG (Amphibious Readiness Group)... you can also make an ESG (Expeditionary Strike Group), which you can include a CRUDES ship (Cruiser or Destroyer or even a worthless LCS - but usually it would be an Arleigh Burke-class DDG). But you can always add/subtract ships... it could be for a unique mission or exercise. Just make your LPDs look old and falling apart for accuracy ; )

An Amphibious Ready Group consists of an LHD (or LHA), a LPD, and an LSD. An ESG (Expeditionary Strike Group) consists of an LHD, LPD, LSD, CG, DDG, and a SSN. There are no integrated LCS into either an ARG or ESG. ESG's have not deployed together in years.

Lovely group but the number on the submarine would indicate it is USS Spadefish SSN-668 (a Sturgeon class nuclear attack sub). USS Los Angeles of the Los Angeles class nuclear attack sub would be SSN-688.

Also the boat on The Hunt for the Red October Los Angeles class sub was the Dallas.

I enjoyed these videos. I served on the BHR (LDH 6). Been thinking of doing a model of it for my office; do you recommend a model kit that is accurate and highly detailed? Also, I'm currently at STRATCOM and would like to model a modern Ohio-class SSBN.

Thanks for the feedback! As for a model, you'd need to decide on which scale you'd like to build. Either a 1/350 kit like my USS Wasp, more expensive and bigger, or 1/700, cheaper but more fiddly. There's plenty of after market photoetch and aircraft available for both scales. Ohio class... I'm fairly certain you can get either scale versions of the sub. Hope this helps?

Looks great! I'd put some F-35s on theere...the HArrirs will be going away fiarly quickly. None the less...looking good. There's only one place to get a 1/350 LSD...and you saw it on my ARG...but even though it is a GREAT model, its comletely resin and is spendy. I decided I had to have it though. If you get it saved up...add it to your group. GOd's speed.

Wow, thank Jeff! F-35s seem to be drying up globally, hard to find without horrific postage costs

@@JJModelMaking Try this 3D modeler. I believe he the Charlies and the Alphas too. These are the Bravos. I have purchased probably 100 from him for my carriers. www.shapeways.com/product/2PFWVW7JG/f-35b-w-gear-x8-fud?optionId=69960248&li=marketplace

Do your hands still hurt after Cutting the Wasps waterline
@xavierbatista62015 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure they give options for waterline or full hull
@JJModelMaking5 жыл бұрын
Not really, I used aa rotary tool for most of it.
@JJModelMaking5 жыл бұрын
You'd have thought so wouldn't you! But no, it was full hull only, unless surgery...
