Also it’s the freaking Navy. They know where the shore is through radar and satellite imagery. Do you honestly think a whole fleet would run into land if the lighthouse didn’t warn them?

@@MaskOfCinder they would if they assume they are from a friendly nation or if they encounter NATO coalition forces or even when identifying unknown vessels that could be enemy vessels or friendly vessels, in this case it appeared on radar as a vessel of unknown origins leading to everything your hearing in the audio. an easy mistake anyone can make relying on radar.

They would not share ANY sensitive information without authenticating the credentials of the people they are talking to. A lighthouse does not show up on radar as a vessel. And they know where the shore is without the help of a lighthouse. This is not a simple mistake. You would have to assume that the US Navy is so inept that without that radio call from another country our fleets would just be running into dry land left and right. That's ridiculous.

Yeah, this probably didn't happen to a large vessel, although it is plausable with a smaller ship such as a destroyer escort. The "Lighthouse vs the Navy ship" has been a running joke since the 1930s. Even the royal navy adopted its own version in the 70s. Good joke adaptation though

@@SacredRat but ships back in the 1930s had excuses no radar or radar being very new concept, but the American warships here had radar but the radar picked up the lighthouse as a boat, they were using long range radar and couldn't see the lighthouse and if you rely solely on radar as you move towards something on radar it looks like its moving towards you, this situation could happen easily to larger vessels than smaller ones seeing as larger vessels use heavily on radar for checking surroundings and many large ships have crashed in the past as a result mainly cruse liners.

Yeeeaaahhh- this likely didn't happen. "The lighthouse versus the warship" has been a running joke in the US and brit navies since the 1930s. Although this may have happened at some point with a small ship (i.e. a destroyer escort), it is incredibly unlikely to happen to a modern supercarrier. If it had happened, it would have made International headlines. Also, note how the captain disclosed the exact numbers of his fleet. That isn't information that you're supposed to give away under most circumstances.
