No regrets when I moved here in the US from Ireland. Pay is a lot lot better. I'm living a much comfortable life. In Ireland I don't have any health insurance. I always pay out of pocket everytime I have to see my GP. But here starting day 1 you are covered already with you employer's health insurance. Workload is a lot lighter here. You work as a Nurse. In Europe you can be an Aide and Nurse at the same time. When it comes to medication administration US is way ahead in terms of technology. We have computer on wheels, we just scan the medication barcodes, scan the patient's ID band etc so less medication error. In Europe you have to manually sign the MAR sheet. We have Respiratory Therapist here so we don't have to worry about nebulization or any respiratory treatment unlike in Europe and Philippines. We have more autonomy here in the US when it comes to nursing procedures while in Europe there are some nursing procedures that you cannot do. Like IV insertion, NGT insertion etc... US has 50 states its like having 50 countries merged into 1, its a land of endless opportunities.

If you work thru an agency here in the U.S., your vacation time is limited, but if you were hired directly by the hospital, it depends on the time you have accumulated. So it means if you have a lot of time, you can go on vacation for a whole month or more. That's paid vacation. I'm from NY, nurses here make an average of $120,000.00 with you're same experience. That's just one job. They get a second job because they only worked 3 days per week (12 hr shift).

Interesting, I was born and raised in the U.K. but moved to the US many years ago. The reason medical personnel make more money in the US is because healthcare is so expensive here. In the U.K., the taxpayer basically supports the system. In the US, you have to have insurance because the cost of a doctors visit or medical procedure is so high. Many people in the US just work for the medical insurance.

Retired after 37 years. Regrets is that I should have gone for RN but I was happy with my position, no week ends or holidays. And since I have seniority, I get to pick my vacation times. Here in the US, you are basically on your own. In both countries, nurses are overworked. The only plus I see working in the US is mas malaki ang sweldo by a significant mile. Sa UK, wala akong ipon. I am planning to moved to the UK after getting my BSN. Many has discouraged me to pursue my goal kesyu daw walang sweldo ang nurse sa UK, sayang ang course mo, and etc. But you know, not everything is about money. Yes mas mataas talaga ang sahod ng USRN compared to UKRN but they don’t have a life. All they do is work and so they are so burnt out at the end of the day. Work balance is not part of their vocabulary. On top of that healthcare care is astronomically so expensive. Hindi kaya ng konsensya ko ang gumamot ng pasyente knowing na mababaon sila sa mga bills pag-uwi. Atleast pag sa UK, my patients will go home with peach of mind because they dont have to worry about medical bills. Mas makakatulog ako ng mahimbing.

Bukod sa malaki ang sweldo, may mga relatives ako sa Cali. Siguro it all goes down to what you need most. If you are with your family here in the UK with kids or single and wants the work and life balance and wala iniisip sa Pinas then it is better here. Pero sa katulad ko na hati ang katawan na makasama ang family (kids) pero may parents na maiiwan sa Pinas na pinapagamot (lifetime) then I think mas magiging okay ako sa US. I worked very hard, saved and invested most of my money in US instead of govt handling my money for me and retired at 38, can you do that in UK? UK, France and other Europe govts are slowly increasing hours and applying austerity measures to avoid a Greece-like economic disaster. Europeans have been spoiled with more vacations but low pay. Once EU govts start applying austerity measures like in France a few months ago, riots will ensue. In US, it is more balanced and we also have 11 paid holidays and plenty of vacation days too in US, 4-6 weeks once accumulated. if you work a holiday in US, it is DOUBLE pay. Many US RNs work for US or State/County govt too for same leave benefits like NHS but much higher pay. Traveling and vacations are NOT fun when you do not have much money in your pocket and cannot save for retirement. Think long term, US is best for type A personalities who are driven to succeed. UK/Europe is for type B personalities. Good luck in UK NHS, it sucks balls there for type A personalities who want to get rich and be set for life. Again, can you retire at 38 in UK when UK govt keeps most of your money??

@@maretvilla1531 Benefits is far better in the UK with almost everything specially if you are thinking to have a family in the future. US is good because they pay more but you work more for that and it's only good when you are young not when you start getting sick.. here in the UK you go in the hospital and go home with zero bill it doesnt matter if it's a 1 Million bill and on top of that you are paid whilst sick. Also you have 7 weeks paid annual leave and it's up to you if you want to convert it as bank shifts which you will be paid on top of your annual leave pay. The life balance here is far better.. I have families in the US and they moan about this all the time. Good luck! 😊
@maretvilla15313 жыл бұрын
@@Hartchell In 🇺🇸, there are 3 ways to get health insurance: by employer( majority choice for Americans), by personal private insurance( choice by business owners and self employed) and by gov't free health insurance: Medicare for 65 and older and Medicaid for low income families. Big difference with health insurance in 🇺🇸 and UK: in 🇬🇧, you have a long waiting list before you get your free service. My bestfriend in Canada, a nurse, just had subarachnoid hemorrhage after she fell on her way to her car during a freezing rain. Guess what's the treatment? Tylenol and more Tylenol. She's feeling pain in her stomach from getting too much acid from Tylenol. She was never confined in a hospital. They never admitted her for observation. Just Tylenol. That's why she and her husband said so this is what free healthcare is all about. No private hospital. No private doctors. No petsonal choice if you want to admit yourself in a hospital or not. The gov't gets to decide if you need hospital or not. The doctors loyalty is to the govt, their boss, and not to the patients. And. You just have to get used to long wait and subpar medical care. She only got better 2 weeks ago after a friend told her to try chiropractor. First visit, her blood pressure went down and she was able to fall asleep. She's still not completely healed but she's improving. Btw, they also have sick leave here. The best part, half of your salary don't go to gov't . I believe America is better for nurses than anywhere else in the world.
@paengguin93813 жыл бұрын
@@maretvilla1531 I totally agree with you. Healthcare in UK and Canada are not free, they pay high taxes to fund their BASIC rationed care with waiting lists for specialists and surgeons. Their basic care is fine but for specialist care and surgeries, US has the best doctors because the best come from all over the world to work in US due to high pay. Plus US has Obamacare now so people who do not make much are subsidized by the govt or Medicaid, free to almost free medical and dental. Poor and disabled have free Medicaid(dental and medical) and over 65 have Medicare in US. Almost everyone is covered in US now because of Obamacare, some people choose not to be covered and would rather spend their money on material possessions. Bills and healthcare premiums/co-pays are NEGLIGIBLE, US nurses do not worry about it because they make great money in US. CNA salary in US is better than UKRN salary. NHS nurses have been moving to US and Australia in DROVES for better pay and working conditions. Dental/vision/pharmacy and are covered in US, not fully covered in UK and Canada, they pay for meds, dental and eyeglasses. People are just envious because they cannot work in US. It is possible to retire early in US in your 30s, 40s or 50s with good financial planning, cannot do that in UK or Canada because their respective govts suck more of their money through high taxes and VAT. How can one save/invest in UK and Canada? Professional Canadians and Brits come to US to work for more money and a more secure future for them and their family. Period.

@paengguin93813 жыл бұрын
Very true, working for the Federal, State, County or City govt is great because of pensions. I agree with you, I am triple-dipping and still have monthly Social Security and 401K payouts to collect in the future, 5 checks total when I hit 62, could delay SS until I hit 65 or 67. *If a nurse wants to make a lot of money and join the upper income class or get rich and retire rich or comfortably with no worries, work in USA. If a nurse is content with middle class life and a small house/car and small pension in the future, work in UK.* MOST nurses prefer USA because there are plenty of educational and FLEXIBLE job opportunities for them, they do not just work in hospitals, some nurses are in schools, outpatient clinics, in health informatics, some work for health insurance companies, some work as advice nurse via phone only or do quality/case management only or utilization review making BIG BUCKS. Some US nurses work form home. US nurses mostly work 72 hours per week so there is PLENTY of time for leisure.
@ceciliaquiocho41693 жыл бұрын
paeng guin l have all those quadruple dipping as you mention you don’t have to wait for 65 yrs to collect your sss since you work with the govt its long story to explain check with sss. I am just proud that I’m retired n knows how to invest for my future as well as for my family. If all RN knows what to do not just atm you are one of the lucky person too congrats.

@@ceciliaquiocho4169 Congrats on completing a successful career! Your smart investing and saving have paid off for a nice retirement with no money-worries. You are set for life. I understand. 62 is early retirement with SS. Even younger if deemed disabled by SS, disabled get paid SSDI (Social Security Disabled Insurance). US is best for nurses, hands down. I know retired military nurses who are Quintuple dipping: military retirement, federal pension, VA disability, SS, and TSP(govt 401K). 5 checks per month for life. NOT possible in UK or anywhere in the world.

Australia is way better when it comes to pay and benefits! I used to work in Uk they don’t have long service leave while here in Australia after 10 yrs you get 13 weeks paid long service leave and i never have to do any extra job to pay all the bills! People can afford to get brand new car while in Uk it is hard .houses here are way bigger and lifestyle way better. work wise when i was in uk the ratio is tough!! Here 1 nurse 4 pts or sometimes 3 when i was in uk when u call in sick in the morning about 2 pm they are already calling you to ask when your coming back ...not something you need when you’re sick.here in Australia they never call u they will wait for your call.

I think he did not have enough years of experience working in the US as a Staff RN, he works as a Registry Nurse hired by an agency to work for a certain hospital. He did not mention if he was employed by a Government Hospital or a Private Hospital. He mentioned., NURSES in the US work 2 jobs coz daming gastusin., it is your option if you want., for full time 12 hrs shift., you only need 3 shift a wk., that means 12 shift in a month., anything you want to do sa days na off ka., 2nd job if not OT once a week., or stay home. You got 18 or 19 days OFF to spend with your family and balance the life. At the same time you got your annual leave 5 weeks or sometimes more basta approve ng manager mo.

You are right about that. 3 daysx 12 hours in the US is what we really need as fulltime. Ive noticed US nurses work 2 jobs or more because we ought to give in to consumerism unfortunately. That's what i have been trying to tell myself for 5 years as an RN: work life balance if we choose to. Less material things, less stress, and more vacation.

In Kuwait other nurses are paid almost 100,000 pesos, tax free, with over time pay, free house, electricity, water, and food allowance, sooner there will be a health insurance, usually the house is just near the work place so less in transportation fee. There is an annual leave pay, free ticket if you want to go home after 2 years, or if you still want to work and stay you can too. Can save good money and go home for good in the philippines after a few years. All goverment fees like SSS are paid in person to be used when it comes to retirement as well as the life insurance. But of course it still depends on the person whether he/she wants to have a residency or become an immigrant in the UK, or in the US or any other country he/she can do so. Here it is also possible to take IELTS and NCLEX if you want to do cross country. Based on my experience my life here in the middle east is way better, able to save, and can retire with good money. Long live to nurses all over the world 😊

Sa UK you will start on working visa for 5 years and then tsaka ka kapa pwede mag apply for Indefinite Leave then eventually citizenship while sa US pag apak mu sa US soil immigrant/green card holder kana after 5 years apply kana ng citizenship... UK nurses has the lowest salary compare to Canadian, Australian and Irish nurses....

I also think US will outshine every other countries on your list when it comes to salary. However, when it comes to the overall quality of life, I think the UK and all the other countries mentioned will take over the crown. There is a reason why safety nets for UK, AUS, and Canada are the best among the rest. Also, let us not forget about the incredible healthcare available in UK. Compared to the US, health problems might give you immense financial burden. Let us not forget that life is not all about money. Live, laugh, love. Cheers mate!

As far as vacation is concerned, it really depends. In our hospital we have Paid time off and it is cumulative. I usually get as much vacation time of up to one month as long as your PTO hours is enough. So it really varies. In fact, it can even be more than a month as long as approved din ng boss or director. I guess different hospital varies in their policies/benefits.

US is just a status symbol...and i travelled to US for than a dozen times for Holiday.Settled in the UK for 20 years as a nurse and i have no regrets.If your main driven force in your career is Money, then you work for money. Money is always important, but the work you perform is the most important. Every employee who has quit a job in frustration knows the importance of enjoying their line of work. Let’s face it, there ARE a few positions that you wouldn’t do no matter the salary. Watched any episodes of Dirty Jobs recently? There's more to life than money...UK is the best in terms of benefits, i rather stay here with my family because the social fabric of US is much divided and lots of discrimination.NHS is envy to the rest of the world, because Healthcare in the UK can be access whether your are Rich or Poor.lets face is America is not great now...and UK is stable and pro worker.

Traveling here in the US a dozen times, even a hundred times clearly doesn’t make you an expert. Be responsible in your comments. Your alleged quality of life in the UK is obviously based on your biases and experiences. I’ve been here in the USA for a good number of years. I’ve never considered it a status symbol. I do work hard like all the other descent immigrants here. So never disparage my adopted country. This country that has taken care of me extremely well. I was given opportunities to work in UK and Ireland before. I chose Ireland coz they pay better and base sa experience salary mo. Both have free healthcare but anlalaki ng tax. I took NCLEX in 2018 and luckily get a job in 2020. Im under agency but I almost earn 2300-2500 usd after tax every 2 weeks. How much more wala ka na sa agency. Medyo malaki kesa sinasahod sa ireland but wala ka masyado annual leave if under agency ka. But u can have 5 weeks minimum if regular ka na. Not too bad. Me mga magnet hospitals that can sponsor ur tuition fees if u want to achieve a promising nursing career like NP, PA, or nurse faculty (free tuition under NFTP) Health insurance not too bad.. maliit lang nman binabayaran.. Ung copay na sinasabi ni kuya is depende yan sa insurance... usually free nman hospital bills after u maximize ur deductibles which is normally 3k lang nman... Me kilala ako same kmi insurance bill nya is 150k binayaran nya is 3500 lang. Then waiting times is less.... Asikaso ka kaagad. Pag sa OR ka ok din mga oncall ksi mlalaki din premium and overtime and oncall/callback pay. Tsaka mganda system dito, computerized lahat.... U can have a quality life din nman dpende on how u decide on it.... If u work hard here in america, u will be rewarded big time. mga kilala ko pinoy 15 years tapos na mortgage.... Well it's up to u guys... both countries are ok... But America treats me well in all aspects so far....

Why would you pick a private agency to work for in the US? Of course you wouldn´t like it lol. They are all for profit- money hungry machines that just use you until you can´t take any more, just so that they make a profit. Of my 17 years as a nurse in the UK, I worked 13 shifts a month. I worked 13 on, 16-17 off. So, every month, I was on holiday for over 2 weeks in another country. That block scheduling is the one thing I miss from the US (oh and holidays every month).
