US response to Israeli troop violations ‘a lot of empty words’: Analysis

Antony Loewenstein, author of The Palestine Laboratory, has questioned the US State Department’s response to “gross violations” of human rights committed by Israeli army units in the occupied West Bank.
Earlier, spokesman Vedant Patel said four Israeli units have “remediated these violations”. Repeatedly asked to specify what the violations were, he didn’t respond.
“I wish I knew what that word [remediated] actually meant in this context because they also said they’d continue providing weapons to those units, which pretty much speaks for itself,” Loewenstein told Al Jazeera.
Israeli forces guilty of abuses against Palestinians are rarely held to account, he noted.
“Even when American citizens are killed, American journalists, and others, America seems to do very little at best. There’s been an explosion of settler and Israeli soldier violence in the occupied West Bank towards Palestinians, so it feels like a lot of empty words,” said Loewenstein.

The US stopped funding all of UNRWA because Israel asserted (apparently without evidence) that 12 UNRWA employees out of thousands were involved in the Oct 7 attack. If several Israeli army units have been found to have committed 'gross violations' of human rights, why isn't the US stopping all aid to to Israel? A cynic might call that a double standard.

Genocide, the deliberate and systematic extermination of a particular group based on ethnicity, nationality, religion, or other defining characteristics, is unequivocally abhorrent and morally reprehensible. Throughout history, genocide has been perpetrated by individuals, groups, and even governments, leading to immeasurable human suffering, loss, and devastation. There are several compelling reasons why genocide is universally condemned and why it stands as a profound violation of human rights, dignity, and basic decency. First and foremost, genocide represents a gross violation of the fundamental principle of human equality. Every individual possesses inherent worth and dignity by virtue of being human, irrespective of their race, ethnicity, religion, or any other characteristic. Genocide undermines this principle by denying the humanity of entire groups and treating them as disposable or inferior solely based on arbitrary distinctions. It reduces complex and diverse communities to mere categories to be eradicated, denying them the right to exist and flourish. Furthermore, genocide inflicts immeasurable suffering upon its victims and their communities. It involves not only the physical extermination of individuals but also the destruction of their cultural heritage, social fabric, and collective memory. Survivors are left traumatized, grieving, and often displaced, struggling to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of unimaginable horrors. The intergenerational impact of genocide perpetuates cycles of trauma and distrust, hindering reconciliation and perpetuating conflict for generations to come. Genocide also represents a profound betrayal of the most basic principles of justice and human rights. It violates the right to life, the right to freedom from discrimination, and the right to freedom from persecution, all of which are enshrined in international law and recognized as fundamental to human dignity. By targeting individuals based on their identity rather than their actions, genocide denies them the most fundamental of rights - the right to exist and be treated with dignity and respect. Moreover, genocide undermines the very fabric of civilization itself by eroding trust, cooperation, and solidarity among nations and peoples. It breeds fear, suspicion, and resentment, fueling cycles of violence, revenge, and further conflict. The failure to prevent and punish genocide not only perpetuates impunity but also sends a dangerous message that such atrocities can be tolerated or ignored, emboldening perpetrators and increasing the likelihood of future violence. It should be obvious at this point but, genocide is not only morally repugnant but also a threat to the very foundations of humanity. It represents a betrayal of our shared humanity, a violation of basic human rights, and a profound injustice against its victims and their communities. As individuals and as members of the global community, we have a moral obligation to stand against genocide in all its forms, to uphold the principles of justice and human rights, and to work tirelessly to prevent such atrocities from ever occurring again. Only by acknowledging the horrors of the past and committing ourselves to building a more just and compassionate world can we honor the memory of those who have perished and ensure a future free from the scourge of genocide.

What's your point? Who cares about his name? The BJP is a very radical far-Right party. Not all Indians are far-Right radicals. Just like not all Israelis are genocidal maniacs, let alone all Jews. Which are protesting against Israel all over the world, by the way. The Azov Battalion in Ukraine is very much like the Nazis. Even if they have many supporters, that doesn't make all Ukrainians Nazis. The Republican Party is infatuated by leaders with fascistic tendencies like Putin, Orban, Erdogan, etc. Republican voters seem ready for Authoritarian rule in America, and the MAGA component of that party is definitely full of Fascists. Does that make ALL Americans Fascists?

States (nations) all over the world, are not the real holders of power anymore, through acquisitions and mergers, small and medium size businesses have become multinationals. As a result they have eliminated competition, grown exponentially higher in power and revenue. Multinationals as they are today have grown more and more powerful in proportion to the state (Nation) and worker, thus turning those very same workers into modern day slaves. The average worker today works long hours for a non living wage. Profits of multinationals have not only risen but, have gone to the top of the pyramid, less to the worker, and less to the state in the form of taxes. Furthermore, the lack of competition has stifled innovation and our ability to solve the many challenges we face. Multinational corporations have busted unions, denounced activists, and dis-incentivized whistleblowing. Yet multinational corporations use lobbying as a way to pursue their own selfish interests of profiteering, at the expense of the workers, consumers, and the environment. Lobbying has also helped increase corruption and made politicians more and more accountable to those same multinational corporations that lobby or pressure them, and less and less accountable to the interests and well-being of its citizens. Furthermore the identity of the person or society used to rest with its faith through religion, later on people were grouped together into separate nations based on similar cultures, race, or ethnicity. Now under capitalism the person's identity rests with their profession, simply where they work or what they do. Last but not least multinational corporations number one goal is to increase profits rather than increased prosperity. When profits are increased exponentially, it is mostly the ones at the top of the pyramid who benefit, on the other hand when prosperity is increased a higher quality of life is felt for everyone. Nations should make increasing regional trade a priority, because it is easier, less costly and more profitable to trade with your neighbors than a distant partner. Violence and wars should be avoided because they do more harm than good, and through peace and love and respect for one another anything is possible. In order for the benefits of trading to be felt on Nations economies, a low cost transportation system is needed, thus making it easier to move people and goods. Secondly, there needs to be low cost clean electricity. Electricity that is produced by clean, sustainable and renewable energy in order to stop and reverse the damage of mass Industrialization to the environment. Gross domestic product (GDP) is the standard measure of the value added through the production of goods and services in a country during a certain period of time. As such, it also measures the income earned from that production, or the total amount spent on final goods and services. Economic growth, measured popularly via GDP, is a complementary indicator to development, but not an adequate indicator when considered on its own. The challenge of modern capitalism is to balance its role as an efficient and effective mode of production with its tendency to concentrate income, wealth and, thus, power. The Human Development Index (HDI) is a summary measure of key dimensions of human development: a long and healthy life, a good education, and a decent standard of living. The HDI provides a broader picture of an economy that includes social development. It also demonstrates that, while there is a correlation between economic and social development, the former does not guarantee the latter. A subsistence economy is an economy directed to basic subsistence, the provision of food, clothing, shelter rather than to the market. Often, the subsistence economy is moneyless and relies on natural resources to provide for basic needs through hunting, gathering, and agriculture. In a subsistence economy, economic surplus is minimal and only used to trade for basic goods, and there is no industrialization. In hunting and gathering societies, resources are often, if not typically underused. Third world countries should transform their economies away from this subsistence economy to the type of economy that is nowadays called the "money" economy. South - South cooperation and regional integration should be improved in order to make this transformative economic leap. Third world countries should invest heavily in human capital (Education & Health) but also in research and forming highly skilled workers in technological jobs. They need to put a ban on the exportation of its raw resources through constitutional reforms, laws and legislation that clearly stipulates this. This will Incentivize the addition of value and processing of raw resources locally. In the long run this will help in growing the private sector and thus creating jobs for its people. Africa for example, produces what it does not consume, and consumes what it does not produce. With its vast natural resources and arable land Africa must produce what it consumes domestically. Economic patriotism must be at the heart of the new African economy through more Intra-Africa trade, preference for African goods and services. Over time businesses will become more competitive and the quality of goods and services will increase.

So because a few thousand Palestinians brake out of their open air prison and kill 1200 Israelis, it's OK to cut water, power and food to TWO MILLION HUMAN BEINGS, force their displacement, reduce their living space to rubble (what little they have left), kill over 34 000 people (14 000 of which were children), injure twice as many, and traumatize millions. That's all good with you? In line with your 'values' is it? Don't you realize that by making ALL Palestinians responsible for the horrors of October 7th, you're legitimizing terrorism??? In that case, 9/11 was completely legitimate, the attacks on Paris, London, Spain, etc. Following your logic, if some of your countrymen commit an atrocity, you're as guilty as they are. Right? If that's the case, better scrutinize where your country decides to send its military next. The US killed ONE MILLION CIVILIANS in Irak. An "illegal war of aggression" they tried to justify with lies about WMDs. So terrorist attacks against the US would be justified if it's done by Irakis. Right? That's the logical conclusion of your ignorant comment. By the way, when Hamas broke thru the wall, they were still on THEIR land!!! The state of Israel is the one prior to 1967. Look at where those borders are. Israel has been violating international law for decades and the US has been covering for them with 88 vetoes on the UN's Security Council. You make me sick!
