Y&R is very beautifuly composed. It used to be called Cottons Dream, then Nadias Theme (Currently called). It was used for background music in Mary J Blige's "No More Drama". The longer version is very peaceful! got Y&R :)

I always thought The Young & the Restless had the best intro (& music) out of all the soaps. The reason why I state this, is because the always featured the characters from the show in their opening. I notice a lot of other soaps started copying Y&R's format (or similar to) around the late 90's/early 2000's, particularly when Y&R changed their opening format from the portrait/picture starting in 1987, to a more live zoom-in opening, showcasing their characters (actors) on the show.

I read Rue McClanahan's autobiography "My First Five Husbands. . . And the Ones who Got Away" and I learned that she was Caroline Johnson on "Another World." Rue was on the show from 1970 to 1971 and her character was employed by Pat and John Randolph as their cook and the nanny for their infant twins. Rue described Caroline as being "the best nanny in all of Christendom, and one hell of a great cook to boot."

DAYS OF OUR LIVES is the most classic and the most true to history considering it is the exact same concept, theme and voiceover since it's inception in 1965. It is by far the most iconic American soap opera opening of all time and for that reason it is #1!

In defense of Days of our Lives - the theme is a classic! You don't need to change it. That's like changing the formula for Coke, to new Coke. Or when NBC changed the peacock logo to a stylized lettering NBC. Both corporations had to change back to the original. The ABC shows all have the 'corporate branding' opening. Cookie cutter Disneyfied mall mentality. The old openings all were distinctive. It's like main st distinctive shops, vs. a mall. DOOL forever!

@MissONTM Trust me, back in the day Y&R was not boring at all! Lol!! I mean maybe now, (I stop watching when the late great Bil Bell passed away, the show lost it's touch). Look at some of the old vintage clips of Y&R here on KZbin. Check out the ones from the 80's and 90's (particularly the Shelia & Lauren feud/catfights) you will see why Y&R was "so high" in the ratings and stayed at number one during that period.

I hardly know anyone on Y&R and, forgive me if you are a fan, but I loathe the Brooke Logan Bangs Again Show aka B&B. Maybe it should stand for "Brooke and the Boys." Anywho, your assessment is spot on. I remember the bone-chillling days of Sheila and Lauren. Oh, and the feud between Katherine and Jill before she became domesticated. Yikes! I guess all good things must come to an end. Oh well.
