I know I'm probably a few days late, but make sure you have a firm, loud whistle. That's the number one thing new referees have trouble with. Good luck!

+Richard Benge important things in being a ref: 1:stabile and strong whistles with variations. 2: confidence 3:posture 4: a smile and respect to all kinds of angry players, and being able to get angry.

This is an excellent narration regarding correct signaling. Well done. If one is a novice, a way for improvement is to watch as much football as possible: on television, KZbin, or live in person, no matter what type of skill, age, or gender: binge watch. Not for the entertainment value, but for the aspect of referee education. Discern what decision he would make under these situations. Maybe, if he is in doubt, shy or a novice, he could prepare and practice appropriate wordings to communicate certain things to the players. Don't be afraid of the mirror: practice proper posture, poise and authoritative countenances, facial expressions. Invest in an efficient whistle in order to preserve wind, while making this audible to all. It may be a dirty game and you may have to be whistling like a Trojan!

I'm pretty nervous for my first reffing game. I know all the rules, but I'm all alone and afraid I'll mess up. Also, it's U8, which you may think is good but what rules do I keep and what do I not?
@Phoenix-fq1hd7 жыл бұрын
Super DUPER They might play quarters instead of halves. Other than that it should be easy going, the hardest part is that most of them don't know how to play at that age.

Don’t sweat it. If a team has advantage, let them keep it unless all the kids stop and then award the kick. Most clubs don’t have offsides for that age. You’ll have to consult with the rules of your club with how to address goal kicks and penalty kicks. For example, some clubs make the opposing team all go back to the midline for the goal kick. Some clubs don’t have pks and the ball is just a direct kick outside of the box. Often if there are goalies they can’t punt it past midline. Most rules for Rec are the same as for professional.

8, 10’s and 12, play Quarters. Also in 8u, you don’t keep score.

Other way round. Indirect is a straight arm up in the air. A direct free kick is an arm at 100 degrees to the body.

Quick tip for new Referees. As the center, make you practice TLC When a goal is scored. TLC means, Trail-AR, Lead AR, and Center. Reason for this is because sometimes someone might commit a foul and someone has to watch the field.

Sometimes, when you want to send a very serious offending player off the pitch for the rest of the game, some refs do this red card signal this way.... 1. Face the offender and then display a yellow card first for several seconds, and then; 2. Immediately display a red card later on--on that player, to send that person off.
