US Test-Fires Nuclear ICBM Missile: The Minuteman III

  Рет қаралды 2,035,105

8 ай бұрын

The Minuteman III is the only land-based ICBM in service in the US, and can carry up to three nuclear warheads and travel more than 8,000 miles to strike targets anywhere in the world.
The test launch program helps the Air Force evaluate the Minuteman III and gather data to keep the system effective. The test launches also demonstrate the readiness and capability of the US nuclear forces, and show the US commitment to maintaining a credible and capable nuclear deterrent.

For everyone wondering why there is so much preparation to launch these tests its because they take one of the missiles from an active silo in the midwest remove the warhead and transport it to Vandenberg AFB and launch it from a silo there to reduce misunderstandings by foreign countries I would assume.

Meanwhile in the UK we did a nuke missile test 2 weeks ago, it fell into the sea a moment after launch. Also our aircraft carrier broke down over a month ago and still unable to move. Costly things to fix for sure. But thankfully we have billions allocated to help illegal immigrants live here and afford them lawyers to help them stay out of jail when they commit rape and drug crimes etc.

I sympathize with you my American neighbor. If you see them launch it most likely means that someone has already launched. You will not survive as all those silos are strategic targets. I live in LA near the border with Orange County where the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Storage is located. So yes we have Nuclear weapons within five miles of where I live. We used to have Nike Missiles all over Southern California. The one that Mary Tyler Moore laid on was located locally at the Fort MacArthur Army base in San Pedro. We’ve been surrounded by these weapons all of our lives. The Fallout isn’t so bad these days not like when we could see Nukes set off in the Nevada Proving Grounds when I was a kid. The Government didn’t seem to care about the fallout. Stupid weapons didn’t use all of the Plutonium and just blew the most poisonous substance on earth into dust that spread everywhere. This is why everybody has Cancer in America. At least the Tsar Bomba used up all of its nuclear material and there was no fallout. Very destructive weapon just too heavy to transport. Thank god they reduced the mega tonnage by half using lead instead of plutonium. They still cracked the Earth’s mantle. And it was over 27,000 lbs. and just too heavy to transport. I am 70 now and will never see a world either without these unnecessary weapons or hopefully not one all blowed up. Good luck for the future of this nation and I hate to leave it up to that. Only good things for you and your family, Hermit.

A Minuteman missile can be launched in about 60 seconds, hence the name. What they are doing in the video is loading a missile into a silo, but for national defense, there's already a fleet of them in silos on standby for launch, 24/7. Perhaps you're thinking of the Titan I, which had to be lifted into position, fueled, and then launched. If Russia launched a land based missile towards the US, it'd take about 30 minutes to get here. A submarine launched missile would be about 10-15 minutes, depending on the location of the submarine. (I'm an Air Force fan, but I think the SLBMs are the best nuclear deterrents)

Naturally, nobody wants a nuclear war. It's bad for the whole world. However, keep in mind: Russia: about 1,300 cities, most of which are packed together since a lot of their land is frozen tundra. Their actual active warheads are about 2,000 or so. The often-quoted 6,000 includes those that are inactive and those awaiting decommissioning. If I remember correctly, the USA has about 1,500+ warheads. Enough for every city in Russia theoretically. USA: about 20,000 cities, spread out ridiculously. Does Russia have even 10,000 warheads? Nope. The USA spends many times more on nuke upkeep vs Russia - for somewhat less warheads. Russia spends many times less on nuke upkeep for somewhat more warheads. How many of theirs do you think actually work properly? Some, sure. All? Doubtful.

Why are images of American test missiles after they are launched always seen in 3D? Maybe it's an example or the missile doesn't make it out. I'm not in the military but I see these images, it makes me think that this missile is unstable and I don't believe it can get out of there.

The USA has done so many Test Firings of the icbm over the years and for saber rattling , I often wonder if there are enough left in the entire inventory todo any good anymore. Plus I don't hear of the govt replenishing those which were expended.

The USAF have 450 Minuteman 3 missiles on alert in the Mid west of USA ( N dakota S Dakota Wisconsin ect ) Before a Test Firing one of these Alert MM 3 missile is randomly chosen to be tested. The USAF still have Hundreds of MM 3 missiles in storage. These stock Missiles are refurbished and put in the empty silo and then put on alert. So Test launches are No problem for the USA. In a few years the MM 3 is going the be replaced by the new Sentinel missile .

@@oculosprudentium8486 I would imagine there would be a great deal of minutemen in reserve/storage, possibly more than the actual warheads. Whats the point of a warhead without a missile? It would make more sense to have more missiles than warheads incase of breakdowns and whatnot. I think there was a good deal of effort to keep up the missile manufacturing though. The Space Shuttle had to use SRB's just to keep the missile companies in business. I would imagine the same factory and tooling exists for the airframe, but maybe with upgraded electronics.

I don’t know why the USA allowed this video to be made public. None of the processes shown look very professional and the silo and launch technology is as old as the early Apollo missions. You can even hear some of the crew saying things like “…I’m guessing they built it so [that]…” when they’re installing the missile. Doesn’t inspire confidence if the crew have to guess what their ancestors intended. Let’s hope the fully armed missiles and systems are more advanced and crewed professionally. Just really puzzled why this isn’t secret…
