Norwegian here. Gravlax is not the same as smoked salmon. Graving is a completely different way of preserving and flavoring fish. Graving is packing the salmon tightly with a weight on top, with a mixture of herbs, sugar, and salt.

The fish and chips is actually not a localisation to the UK market, it's a staple at Swedish IKEAs and served exactly the same way! Breaded fish is a bit of a classic everyday dish here actually, though usually served with boiled potatoes.

Interesting!! Not shocking though, it's northern Europe, it's cold and we've got lots of coastline- we'll eat fish in as many ways as possible lol. We (Brits) actually eat a lot of breaded fish at home - classic childhood dinner is fish fingers (breaded), potato smiley faces (basically chips cut into smiley faces instead) and baked beans or spaghetti hoops. But when you buy 'fish and chips' in the UK it's usually battered unless stated otherwise

@Grievous-
@Grievous- Жыл бұрын
@@nathan51782 Ikea is a fun company to work for. Competitive pay, lots of opportunities for advancement and lots of company perks like 15% store discount and cheap food in the co-worker restaurant. The only con I can think of is they only hire part time positions. Ikea offers part-time contracts usually between 24, 30, 40, 50 and 60 hours minimum per fortnight. You might be on one of these lower contracts but you'll often pick up more shifts depending which department you are in. If you do decide to apply for a position, remember that attitude is the key. You may not have the right experience they are looking for, but if you have the right attitude and are a positive person, Ikea will hire and train you.

US IKEA food worker here, there are a few things I noticed. 1. It's still called the daim cake at my location 2. They mentioned stuff that was discontinued like the lingonberry ribs. Again, at least at my location. 3. Meatballs are cheaper at my location (though this makes sense to me, as this video was filmed in California) 4. That US pizza was overcooked, you can tell by the burn marks on the bottom. Just a note, these are my own observations and they do not represent the company as a whole. (I'm only saying this to not have any lawyers coming after me and I will not reveal my exact location.)

as a Swede, you wonder what a Stockholm salad is. can't even google it so it's probably an American name, but looks like green salad with raw spiced salmon and butler sauce = hovmästarsås. there are several kinds of so-called shrimp salads in Sweden. Skagen batter "Skagenröra" that you have on toast as an entree. then you have a thick, creamy prawn salad that is sold in sausage stands. then shrimp salad, which is green salad, tomato, cucumber, etc., and shrimp, but some additional dressing. much like pizza there are lots of different pizzas. this is just a clarification in case someone goes to Sweden and wants to try the food, it can be so wrong if you don't know what to order. but you should definitely try the toast skagen

I worked at that Burbank IKEA many years ago. They were a great company to work for and really looked after the employees. At least that store did at the time, but I got the impression it was the company as a whole. One of the best things they did was, during the holidays, they gave employees a line of credit to buy basically anything you needed at the store, and then you could have it taken out of your paycheck in very manageable amounts over time. I also really love lingonberry, and you can still buy lingonberry jam in the Swedish shop in the front of the store.

Admittedly it is my first time sleeping on a new mattress in a very long time, but i think i have had it for around a year now and it's still great! Softened but great! Although yeah, i am a fan of their hotdogs! Like Harry i don't live super close to one so Ikea is a trip with intention, but seeing those plushies, man, i really regret not getting the large whale shark and i want it so bad!

They have the coolest plushies. For some reason we acquired various Ikea rats over the years anytime we went for my dog (who we lost in Dec 2022). We still have all these damn little ikea rat plushies, varying in size, all over our house with missing legs, ears, and stuffing 😂. Those plushies were my dogs favourite!

I feel like a lot of this is store specific too. There are definitely some menu items that were listed as uk specific that we have in my local ikea in the us and some us items from the video that we don’t have

If you go at Christmas, you can get chocolate Orange Diam bites and Apple and Cinnamon pie at the UK ones. I know, I went just before Christmas last year.

Sometimes my partner and I just go to Ikea for the Meal, we walk around beforehand to build up our appetite and then after we eat we walk around again to get our bodies moving and then end up buying a pack of frozen meatballs 😅

I’ve only ever been to IKEA once. We don’t have one in my state. I never knew they had so many food options. I always thought they just had meatballs.

Dogging in the IKEA, that would draw a crowd in the UK store. Daim Cake. Rather lovely. They do still sell Daim bars in a lot of the supermarkets here. My nearest Ikea is Croydon, it has quite an interesting maze to get to the final checkout. It is nearly impossible to walk out of that place with nothing. I've tried.

I have an IKEA store less than a 10 minute walk from my home in North London. The idea of IKEA putting their restaurant at the front of the store is to make you to burn off the food that you eaten as you feel compelled to walk around the store then you will feel hungry again by the time you get to the end but after you have brought the leaving hotdog you've forgotten something that makes you to walk around the whole store again.

My family would have to drive 2hs to get to ikea and we always had lunch at the cafe/bistro. Then after a few hours of shopping we would get soft serve on the way out and a tray of cinnamon rolls to eat for breakfast the next day.

Hey. Random idea for these videos. Would it be possible to add a price for the items in each country? It would make it easier to compare who gets a better value for their money.

In the U.S., you can get the meatballs a la carte for $1.50 each set of 4. You can add unlimited amount to your order as well.

The fried version of a sausage is always smaller than the boiled one. Boiled sausages are wiener sausages. The fried ones are smaller hot dog dogs.. Don't know why, it just is the way things are around here in Sweden. :)

The horse meat scandal actual *did* imply some health problems, because the meat was likely from US sources. US horse meat is incredibly toxic (for meat) given how much shit we pump into horses (I.e snake venom and cat urine)

In the UK a kids meatballs is £1.50 with peas and a scoop of mash or chips and gravy, plus a drink and piece of fruit. Order 2 of those and you have 8 balls a drink and 2 bit of fruit for £3
