There's actually quite a few castles in the US. Mind you, some of them aren't the stereotypical "British" castle style though quite a few actually are (just not as big). I believe the oldest castle is someplace in Pennsylvania built sometime around 1750 or so.

See when she said "we have no castles" I thought to myself, "Yea I think she's right🤔We have forts and anything that would be called a 'castle' here in the states would just be some rich dudes mansion that they titled as a 'castle'". Lo and behold, the list of "castles" in the states are just rich dudes mansions🤷🏽♂Theres a Palace in Hawaii that you might pass off as an actual castle though.

I have never in my life heard anyone use the word flat in the US to refer to apartments lol
@OceanLaboratory Жыл бұрын
Also I can't believe no one mentioned the "or" sound that australians use when they pronounce the o sound, like "nor" and "tomator" lol

@@OceanLaboratoryou really never heard what a flat is? I have a lot 😂
@OceanLaboratory Жыл бұрын
@@fayfaee I know what a flat is, we just don't use that word in the US, at least not where I'm from. Also have never heard it used in American shows or movies.

KZbin Sunn Mcheaux's "Naur Aussie Triphthong" short to hear an explanation as to why you think it's an "or" sound when it really isn't. Also, the Aussie in this video has a more noticeable American tinge to her accent. TLDR: It's not an "or" sound, it's oh oo uh all combined to form one sound.

I love it how she said "America had so many British immigrants". So innocent 😂

There are a few castles in New England, which is the northeast region of America, and there are plenty of Victorian type mansions in New England, mostly in Newport, Rhode Island, built primarily in the 1800s.

The term apartment is favored in North America (although in some Canadian cities, flat is used for a unit which is part of a house containing two or three units, typically one to a floor). In the UK, the term apartment is more usual in professional real estate and architectural circles where otherwise the term flat is used commonly, but not exclusively, for an apartment on a single level (hence a "flat" apartment). In some countries, the word "unit" is a more general term referring to both apartments and rental business suites. The word 'unit' is generally used only in the context of a specific building.

The British pronunciation of water is very close to the Lower German Woter or also Water.

It's a pet peeve of mine with the letter H, it's pronounced aitch not haitch, even the spellchecker agrees with me. Even at school people were using haitch but the teachers were saying no it's aitch. People's arguments were but it's a H sound so why doesn't the word aitch start with an H? From what I have read, aitch is the standard and accepted form, whereas haitch is more regional.
