Do They Know It's Christmas inspired this really, the passing of vocals through the verse even. Though I didn't like DTKIC so much at the time I can see it was a well done song now. I never thought We Are The World was as good, the chorus in particular just lumbers along.

@@kev7161 let's not try and make excuses that most likely have nothing to do with what actually happened. I really don't think the group of people who put this together would have turned anyone away who was interested. I mean Dan Ackroyd was there singing. I doubt there was any requirement regarding where you were in your career. Plus, Whitney's cousin, Dionne Warwick, was involved so again it is doubtful that she didn't know about the project or was not asked to join, My guess is, she either just wasn't interested or more possibly she just didn't have the time or opening in her schedule to be able to participate, this is the more likely reason she wasn't involved. This is probably true of many other artists at that time, I am sure there were many others who were interested, but their schedules probably just didn't allow for them to be able to participate. *** This is an update to my comment above. I did learn that approximately 50 artists were turned away from being involved in the project... so now I am wondering who had to choose and how the decisions were made, as to who was included and who wasn't. Not from a judgmental perspective but you have to wonder who was turned away , and what clout Dan Ackroyd had that allowed him to be included? I mean I think it's great that over 100 artists wanted to be involved, that in and of itself is amazing.

I did find this on the Wiki page: Invited musician Prince, who would have had a part in which he and Michael Jackson sang to each other, did not attend the recording session.[13] The reason given for his absence has varied. One newspaper claimed that Prince did not want to record with other acts.[14] Another report, from the time of "We Are the World"'s recording, suggested that the musician did not want to partake in the session because organizer Bob Geldof called him a "creep".[

The man standing by Harry Belafonte is comic actor Dan Ackroyd. Dan was one of the early SNL cast members. And an awesome musician as well. He was half of SNL music/comedy duo the Blues Brothers with John Belushi. And in the middle of it all is 60's voice of his generation and counter-culture icon, Bob Dylan. FYI - his son Jakob Dylan fronted 90's singing sensation group The Wallflowers. Michael Jackson wrote this song and it was produced by Quincy Jones. Like others in the day, I counted down the days to watch it's debut on MTV or VH1. I don't remember which one. The pairing of Stevie Wonder & Bruce Springsteen was genius. Their voices contrasted beautifully.

@@jaybrielakoi7747 Especially the part with Cyndi Lauper (the girl with the yellow and red hair - when you listed the names you recognized, you didn't mention her so I'm assuming you're not familiar with her).
